Chapter 1502: Defense Border Part 17
Carmen was relieved when she heard Xu Feng’s reassuring words. Or more specifically, his promise that he would explain the situation to Hazel.
"The cleansing process is at 100%," Carmen said. She still continued to fan because she wasn’t sure if she had to stop.
"You can stop fanning now." Xu Feng smiled and began to retrieve a few mana recovery potions to consume.
Once his mana reached a certain percentage, he began casting heal on himself.
The broken bones on his body also began to heal, finally sparing him of the pain that had been aching. Though it had long become numb by now.
"Phew, I feel alive again." He stood up and jumped around a little.
"What are you doing?" Alas, his action quickly infuriated Carmen, who hurriedly ordered him to sit back down to take a break.
"You have barely recovered, and now you want to hop around like some bunny? Do you want to die?"
"I—"
He wanted to explain and defend his action, but shut his mouth tight when he saw her frightening expression.
It was the kind where you needed to shut up right away.
No questions asked!
Sometime later, Carmen sat next to him and held his head gently. Then, without a word, she made him lean his head on her lap.
The sudden intimate act startled Xu Feng.
He wasn’t going to complain or get up. He was just surprised by the treat.
But then his intuition told him that this was the calm before the storm.
"Um, just out of curiosity... Am I going to be sleeping on the couch tonight?" He asked nervously.
"No, sleeping on the couch will ruin your back." Carmen shook her head.
Just when he thought he could heave a sigh of relief, her next word made him question life.
"Although I won’t kick you off the couch, you can forget about touching me. Consider it your punishment for being so reckless." She said in a very sweet tone.
One might think Xu Feng would smile wryly or bitterly, but sorry. Not only was he not afraid of the punishment, but he had already begun cooking up ways to get her forgiveness.
Only a useless man would fail to regain their love’s forgiveness.
"By the way, how come the reinforcement is taking so long to come?" Carmen glanced at the sky and was confused how a Tier 5 expert like Olivia hadn’t appeared yet.
By logic, they should have arrived at the defense border.
"About that..."
Xu Feng then relayed how a traitor from the Razor Nightmare had destroyed the Teleport Platform.
Without the Teleport Platform, the nearest city that they could transport to was like 130-150 km.
And given that the reinforcement was probably large in number, that would cause some delay in getting everyone together.
Realization quickly dawned upon Carmen.
"No wonder you are evacuating the civilians in the wilderness." She gasped in shock. The scene of them evacuating never crossed her mind much until now, when she realized they could have taken the teleport platform.
But then again, it could also be her not-so-bright thoughts about Xu Feng, who might be trying to save money on the teleporting fees.
’Eh, what am I thinking? He’ll probably call ahead and ask the one in charge to cover the bills instead and add some interest tax.’ Carmen sighed softly.
"Should I send some of my voidlings to assist Kong Ming?"
"No need."
"You have that much trust in him?"
"Nah, if I let you help him, I’ll lose my right to lie on your laps. Don’t you know how much people will kill me just to enjoy this moment?"
"..."
It took Carmen a few seconds to realize he was flirting with her, albeit not in a very clever way.
Instead, it was very cringeworthy and nearly made her want to vomit in place.
Of course, that was an exaggeration. Maybe it was because the person who said it was him that she was fine with the flirtatious remark.
Had it been any other men, she would have given them the cold shoulder or instant block.
Little did Carmen know that Xu Feng concealed the actual truth by lying cleverly.
’The Demon Lord has an alliance mark on consensus. Once marked by one of them, any other Demon Lord who sensed or detected the mark would know you’re an enemy.’ Xu Feng knew he was marked already and didn’t wish for Carmen to be marked as well.
At the moment, she was safe because she hadn’t physically confronted the Demon Lord yet.
Demon Lords were prideful creatures who disdained marking others randomly, especially on unprovoked ants.
Would anyone go out of their way to deliberately kill some ants?
Maybe a few lunatics would, but the majority wouldn’t even bother with it.
They believed it was beneath them or a complete waste of time.
That was the case for the Demon Lord, who viewed humans as mere ants.
"Kong Ming is fine anyway." Xu Feng suddenly said. "Reinforcement, albeit a little bit, has arrived."
His communication token with Olivia started to light up, essentially notifying him of her presence.
And sure enough, the sky trembled violently when the power of a Tier 5 was emitted.
"Who?" In the sky, Karoos, who was busy pursuing the defensive Kong Ming, became alarmed by the sudden threat.
"This is the strength of a Tier 5." He quickly realized the situation and immediately expanded his wings to retreat from the scene. He wasn’t scared of a Tier 5, but he reckoned it wasn’t going to be an easy fight either.
Not to mention, he had yet to consolidate his power since being summoned when he was occupied by two annoying pests.
"Oh no, you don’t!" Kong Ming snickered and immediately locked the atmosphere with his ultimate spell.
His clothes were ripped apart, and his left arm was shrouded in dark substance. Despite not being as affected as Xu Feng in terms of the corruption phase, Kong Ming came to an understanding of how much pain he was actually enduring.
