Chapter 789: You Do Not Get To Question Me
Chapter 789: You Do Not Get To Question Me
Yuria and her sisters were surprised to see someone as gentle as Berret suddenly lashing out at Lita.
But hearing his words, they realized that his anger was warranted. It seemed as if Lita purposefully let one of the ghouls get past her and put Ana in danger.
Lita snorted and pointed her finger at him, "What the fuck are you talking about? Do you expect me to let myself get killed by those monsters to save your girlfriend? You must be crazy!"
"You know that is not what happened!" Berret said as he stepped forward with his nostrils flared, but Jake stepped in front to pull him back before he did something he might regret.
"Berret, please…let it go. I am alright," Ana said with teary eyes, making Berret's expression waver.
"Berret is right. You let not only their squad down but even our own, Lita. If only you had stuck to the plan, then that ghoul would have never reached Ana in the first place. If it were not for Valentina, she would have died, followed by Jake and his team. And if they went down, it wouldn't take a genius to guess that we would have also gone down. Now, do you realize how selfish and dumb your actions were?" Gunner scolded Lita since he had also taken notice of what she did.
Berret felt better, seeing that Gunner was reprimanding Lita on his behalf. He decided to step back and let him handle it since he was her squad leader, after all.
Becca gulped as she hid behind Milo. She thanked herself for not breaking formation even though she was this close to running away.
Milo saw her hiding behind him and chuckled as he whispered to her, "You better thank me for warning you. Otherwise, you would be facing heat from Gunner just like Lita is right now."
Becca harrumphed, though she couldn't really refute him.
Lita felt her face heat up after getting cornered by everyone, including even Gunner. She crossed her arms and said, "Stop making a big deal out of this. It's not like she or anybody died. Is it so bad that I tried to look out for myself? Isn't that what our leader also said to you last week when you surrendered?"
Jake and his team shook their heads with helpless expressions while Gunner coldly scoffed and said, "That was because I was the only one up against someone stronger than me. So it was fine if I was to tuck my tail between my legs and run away. That is what our leader meant. But when we are fighting as a team, you never run away or abandon your mates. That is something we all have learned during our training, or did you forget that because you care about yourself more than our cause?"
Lily saw that the tension was rising and that this argument might get heated up even more. So she stepped towards the middle and said with her hands gesturing to them to stop, "Everyone, please calm down. Let's first finish what we came here for and settle this after we go home. Arguing here won't do us any good."
Linda let out a tired sigh as she walked towards the bunker, "Lily is right. We are all tired as fuck. Let's just get this over with and get out of this hellhole. We can deal with the trash later."
"You!" Lita fumed, but she decided to swallow her words since now wasn't a good time to piss them off even more.
"We had saved some people above. I will go check on them," Reva said as she was about to fly up.
"Wait. Lily, Valentina, and Linda are staying here. The rest of us will go up and take care of those ugly fiends those ghouls used as their mounts," Gunner said as Jake and the others nodded before following Reva.
Linda banged on the fortified wall as she called out, "Hey, open the door! You all are safe now. We are here to bring you all to safety."
Silence descended as Linda shrugged and asked, "Did they all die or what?"
*CREAK!*
Suddenly, debris fell from the roof as the fortified wall began to slide open, making all three women step back.
Since it was such a heavily fortified door, they weren't surprised to see it open at a snail's pace.
Lily could only wonder how many complicated formations must be working together to move such a heavy door.
Finally, the door opened enough for them to see a large room behind the wall, which seemed quite well equipped with suits, weapons, pills, and other things that would let at least fifty people survive in this room comfortably for at least a few months.
But what shocked all three was the fact that there was only one person in this bunker…an old man dressed in a neat, well-dressed manner. Even his short beard was tidy and combed, just like the hair on the sides of his head.
"Thank god you came to rescue me! I thought I was going to die when those monsters tried to bring down my door. Praise the heavens!" The old man cried out with a relieved look as he took a peek out of the door to make sure all the ghouls were dead. And after scanning his surroundings very carefully, he put on his suit and finally stepped out of his bunker while the three looked on with confounded expressions.
"Are you…Gon Shen, the Station Master of this station?" Lily asked as she looked at him, just to confirm while scanning the inside of the bunker to see if he was really staying alone inside.
"Of course I am. Did HQ send you guys? Nevermind, just get me to a safe station, quick! I will find my way from there," Gon said in an impatient tone as he straightened his gloves.
"Wait a second. Why were you alone in this bunker? I thought there were other survivors hiding inside with you?" Lily asked with furrowed brows.
"Survivors? What nonsense are you talking about, woman? I am the survivor. I barely managed to get inside this bunker, let alone others. And don't forget your rank, Outrider. I am a Station Master, and you do not get to question me," Gon said in an annoyed tone, clearly not liking the fact that he was being questioned.
