Chapter 795: Humans Can't Be Trusted
"Dear! What happened?" Jayna rushed in and closed the door upon seeing the charred mess in the room.
Everything around her was scorched black, while all the things inside were ashes. And in the midst of it, Mira was kneeling on the floor while covering her face, her body tremoring continuously.
Jayna could sense how unstable and heavy her aura was. She slowly walked towards her and then crouched as she gently hugged her and asked, "Dear…what happened to make you so angry and sad?"
Since she had known Mira since she was a small girl, Jayna could tell what she was feeling just based on her aura. And this was a surprise since she couldn't remember the last time she saw Mira like this.
"Aunt Jayna…" Mira mumbled in a feeble voice as she hugged her and rested her head against her chest.
Jayna softly smiled as she caressed Mira's head and asked, "It's fine. It's all going to be fine. You can tell me when you are ready."
Mira felt Jayna's presence and words to be quite soothing and calmed her down gradually before she even knew it.
After a few moments, Mira's aura became more stable as she finally said in a low voice, "It's…Damien…He shouted at me f-for telling him the truth…He has been bewitched by the humans…" Mira said as she clenched her jaw, her head still resting on Jayna.
"Damien shouted at you?" Jayna asked as if she was surprised and looked at Mira's back with a strange look.
She had seen Mira being quite antagonistic towards Damien for being half-human since the moment the two met. It was only for the sake of her Master, she was accommodating his presence or so Jayna thought so far.
"And what did you do?" Jayna asked with a subtly worried look.
"Mira's face became red again as she said, "I…I left because I couldn't stand looking at his obnoxious face, which I shouldn't have! I should have given him an earful right away. I just got possessed at that moment, hmph!"
Jayna had a look of disbelief since nobody had ever survived who made Mira angry or turned her mood sour. Even if she was not allowed to hurt Damien, she would have at least said something back, but she didn't, which was strange, considering her nature.
"What did you say to Damien?" Jayna decided to get to the root cause since she knew the kind of man Damien was.
Mira's gaze darted a few times before she said in a low voice, "He seemed to be worried so much about his human wives that he even acted weird while we were talking because he thought about them. So I…I said that worrying about them was useless and…that they were better off dead than alive since they would scorn him once they realize his true lineage."
Jayna parted her lips as she said with a subtle gasp, "Oh, my child. Why would you say something ill like that? It would have definitely made him sad hearing it since he loves his wives more than anything."
Mira's lips firmly pressed together as she said, "But I was right, wasn't I? You know how these despicable humans are and what they do to our people. I know what I said was harsh, but it was the truth. It was better he realized it now than later. But I am the fool for trying to help him. I can't care less if he gets devastated by them later on."
Jayna sighed as she kept caressing Mira's head and said, "I was there when he was born, and maybe that is why I feel like I know what kind of man he is when he reunited with us. He is a man with a good heart and would never purposefully want to hurt someone for no reason. He never shouted at you once despite the number of times you behaved rudely at him since he came here."
Mira softly harrumphed as she couldn't find any words to refute her.
Jayna softly chuckled and added, "But you must have seen how hard he has been working on getting stronger, and we all know the main reason for that is his wives. You should also remember that his wives aren't from our world but from a world which had a different way of living and culture."
"But humans can't be trusted! Aunt Jayna knows that, too, right? You know what they did to my Master and how our entire clan suffered for it," Mira said with an aggrieved look.
Jayna softly nodded with a low sigh, "I know. Even if the humans over there are basically the same as the humans in our world, the women Damien fell in love with might be different from the rest since someone like him would never fall for the wrong women. You never met them, so you can never know for sure if they would hurt him, right?"
"B-But…" Mira wanted to refute, but she only felt there was some kind of truth in her words. But she hated this feeling. She didn't know why she was only feeling more irritated when remembering how much worried he looked when thinking about his human wives.
"Damien is also half-human, so does that mean he would hurt us all?" Jayna added to see her words would allow Mira to see things differently.
Mira pursed her lips and mumbled, "He won't…Because I will be keeping an eye on him."
Jayna shook her head with a helpless smile and said, "Our matriarch loves him more than anything, and someone like Damien would never turn his back on family. So, your words caused him to misunderstand your intentions. Why don't you apologize to him for it and call it a day?"
A flush crept across her cheeks as she shook her head, "No…no…I can't apologize…I am still angry at him…" Even though she said this, in reality, Mira found it embarrassing that she had to apologize and couldn't bear to lose face like that. She preferred to just avoid him as long as she could.
Jayna smiled, knowing what exactly she was thinking, and said, "Okay. Then why don't you clean up the mess here, and I will check on you later."
