Chapter 796: A Misunderstanding?

Damien felt as if his mood was soured after his disagreement with Mira. Even if she had been rude to him since he came here, he admired her in some ways, especially when she volunteered to help him train and how she was very loyal to his aunt.

So hearing those words from her made him feel quite disappointed in her.

He was already feeling down after sensing Valentina's life was in danger, and her words just triggered his anger.

*Knock*

Suddenly, a soft knock sounded on his door, distracting him from his thoughts. He got up and opened the door to see it was the Clan Elder, Jayna.

She stood there and asked with a subtle smile, "Can I come in?"

"Yea, of course," Damien said as he gestured to her to come inside and closed the door.

"I heard what happened," Jayna said with a subtle press of her lips.

"Oh…Did Mira complain about me to you?" Damien wondered if she complained to Jayna after getting pissed off.

"No, she didn't. I saw her and asked her since she was feeling quite…sad that you shouted at her," Jayna left out the word 'angry' since she knew what caused Mira to be angry now.

Damien had a look of disbelief, "She is the one who is sad? Did you know what she said to me?"

Jayna nodded with a low sigh, "I know, but her words were not meant to hurt you…" Jayna explained to Damien what Mira meant by those words, making Damien's brows raise the more he heard.

And just as she finished, Damien shook his head and said, "Never. My wives would never turn on me even if they learned about my origins. They are different," Damien said with full confidence.

Jayna could see that her assumptions about his wives were right and said, "I know, but Mira doesn't know that. Just like me or any other ghoul in this world, she has only seen how dangerous and cruel humans can be. The only reason I feel your wives are different is that you are different. You are special, and that makes me think that the women you chose must be special too."

"I can understand that Elder Jayna and my aunt saw the worst side of humans," Damien was thinking about his mother, who betrayed his father when he said this, and then asked, "But what did Mira see to make her extremely biased like this?" Damien already sensed that her hatred for humans was more extreme than the rest.

Jayna's expression became a bit doleful as she said, "Because…when she was only five years old, she saw her parents getting burned alive by humans."

Damien's eyes widened slightly, followed by rapid blinking. He never expected she went through something horrifying like that. As someone who had one of his women in his past life burned on a stake, he could understand to some point how Mira must have felt.

But as a child who was only five years old and saw them getting burned alive, it must have been quite horrifying for her. He was astonished that she didn't get broken by seeing such a sight, but maybe she might be broken in other ways.

"It was not just a simple attack on her parents. Her parents had found an injured human near their home and tried to heal them, only for the human to betray their kindness and call upon his friends to kill not only them but everyone else in their tribe. This is the main reason why she believes no humans can be trusted, nor would any of us in any way. The only reason your aunt or I trust you is that we have known you since you were born, and we know your father's blood flows through your veins," Jayna said with a complicated expression.

Damien now realized why Mira said those words, and thinking about it, she was saying it for his own good, even if the way she said it was not right. He also knew he never had to worry about his wives turning against him, but he could sympathize with Mira, considering what she suffered.

"I know how two-faced humans can be. I have experienced that too, and that is why I also do not trust anybody, no matter which race until I know them well enough to trust them. But…now I think I shouldn't have shouted at her. I could have handled it better," Damien said, feeling regret.

"It was wrong for her to say those words to you, especially considering how much you love them. I told her to apologize to you, but you know what she is like…I hope you will understand since, in some ways, she is still that 5-year-old child who can't let go of her past. Even your aunt took some time to move on after what happened to your father or maybe she hasn't completely. So I could only imagine how hard it must be for Mira," Jayna said with a sad smile.

"It's fine. Now that I know her intentions, I am not mad at her anymore. Thank you for letting me understand and know more about her. Otherwise, I would have kept misunderstanding," Damien said with a soft smile, to which Jayna nodded with a relieved look, "She might seem brash, but on the inside, she is sensitive. Since she felt hurt by your words, it only means she values your words."

Damien never thought about and thinking about it again, he remembered how hurt she looked when she left.

"I will go and talk to her. I hope she is in her room," Damien said as he prepared to leave.

Jayna softly chuckled as she said, "She is but about the room…I think you should see for yourself."

Damien had a look of confusion, wondering what she meant by that.

"Use this just in case," Jayna handed over a mini formation key to Damien.

He left and headed straight for Mira's room and knocked. However, the door remained locked, and not even a word from inside, no matter how many times he knocked.

Seeing no other way, he discreetly used the mini-formation key Jayna gave him to open the door.
