Running Over The Head Of My Ex [Rebirth]

Chapter 59

Chapter 59

The ringtone of the phone was jarringly out of place in the quiet atmosphere.

The two looked at each other, and He Qingqi even blinked innocently to show her lack of involvement.

Tao Jinghan glanced at the phone, her brows slightly furrowed, hesitating for a moment.

“Just answer it,” He Qingqi encouraged her with a look.

Tao Jinghan pursed her lips.

Although it was actually Pei Shuyi who initiated the video call, Tao Jinghan inexplicably felt a sense of nervousness, as if she were returning to her hometown after a long time.

Would she see her?

Forget it; you might as well answer it.

Tao Jinghan suddenly felt as if she and Bian Sui Tong were like little girlfriends in middle or high school who had suddenly fallen out.

They suddenly stopped talking and suddenly felt awkward, even though they had been getting along so well before.

Or perhaps it was like childhood friends who had played together happily but suddenly one day grew distant. Occasionally, they would see a message from the other, feeling either nostalgic or sentimental, but never again would they open that familiar yet foreign conversation box.

What else could be done?

One had to learn to accept it.

Tao Jinghan’s lips trembled, and with a resolute heart, she clicked the answer button.

What came into view were three large faces, with three people unable to answer due to other commitments, including… Bian Sui Tong.

He Qingqi glanced slightly surprised at Tao Jinghan’s profile.

Tao Jinghan was momentarily stunned, then bit her lip in shame. The mental preparation she had painstakingly built seemed like a joke, just like that confession from the other day.

Tao Jinghan’s eyelashes trembled, her heart aching for a moment.

But at the same time, she felt a sense of relief.

“Oni!” Pei Shuyi began to whine loudly, “I miss you so much.”

Hearing this, Tao Jinghan smiled helplessly, her voice gentle. “We just parted yesterday.”

Since all four of them were speaking Korean, He Qingqi was left feeling completely lost, understanding only the word “Oni.” So while the others chatted animatedly, her mind was stuck on that single word.

He Qingqi tilted her head, feeling as if she were illiterate.

After about five minutes, Tao Jinghan suddenly said, “You guys keep chatting; I have work tomorrow and need to get some sleep.”

Her smile remained polite and bright, just like the considerate and attentive big sister she used to be in Korea.

Pei Shuyi glanced forward, holding the phone with the rear camera facing her, while Bian Sui Tong watched them through the video. She moved her lips awkwardly.

While Tao Jinghan wasn’t paying attention, she mouthed, “Sui Tong Oni.”

Bian Sui Tong nodded silently, indicating she understood.

Looking at the phone screen, Bian Sui Tong blinked slightly, her beautiful amber eyes dimming as she greedily took in Tao Jinghan’s final smile.

She didn’t know what she was doing.

She only knew… She missed Tao Jinghan like crazy, wanted to see her, and wanted to hug her, especially since before they parted, Tao Jinghan had looked at her with such a silent, lonely gaze.

She wanted to see her.

But thinking of Zhou Canxian, Bian Sui Tong could only curl up in the darkness.

It was as if she were being pulled into a swamp, sinking deeper and deeper until it eventually engulfed her, suffocating her.

She couldn’t hold back anymore, her gaze snapping away as if electrocuted, her face flushed with shame as she bit her lower lip hard, her nails seeming to dig into her flesh, and her body trembling violently.

Moving quickly, she switched to the front camera before Tao Jinghan could, and then handed the phone to Pei Shuyi.

“Sui Tong Oni.”

“I want to be alone for a bit.”

Bian Sui Tong hurriedly got up, and whether it was because she had been sitting for too long or not, she stumbled a step.

Without waiting to steady herself, she crawled onto the bed, quietly lying down and pulling the quilt up to cover her mouth, her nose, and finally even her eyes.

Past moments of intimacy flashed like slideshows in her mind, refusing to disperse.

The scene finally froze on the moment she rejected Tao Jinghan, her heart feeling as though it were being squeezed tightly in someone’s hand. With each squeeze, the pain intensified.

Shame and guilt seemed to tear her apart, causing her to gasp for breath.

But she couldn’t help but wonder: did Jinghan feel the same way when she was rejected? Her heart ached even more at the thought.

She curled up, clutching the quilt tightly, crying silently in the suffocating darkness.

Only Pei Shuyi, who shared a room with her, knew about this, watching with some concern as the bed trembled from her sobs.

What on earth was going on? She couldn’t help but wonder.

After saying their goodbyes, Tao Jinghan hung up the phone.

He Qingqi exclaimed in surprise, “That was quick!”

Tao Jinghan still felt a sense of loss; her gaze was a bit empty, but when she looked at He Qingqi, she still had the energy to joke.

“Even if it’s a girl, you can’t say ‘quick’.”

This must be what it feels like to find humor in adversity.

He Qingqi: “…”

It seemed oddly familiar.

As if she had heard it somewhere before.

Suddenly, it dawned on her. She had said something similar to Zhuo Zhiwei; though the content was a bit different, the meaning was nearly the same.

Thinking of Zhuo Zhiwei, He Qingqi couldn’t help but smile, her gentle eyes sparkling as she sat obediently in her chair.

Oh, how endearing.

Tao Jinghan couldn’t help but widen her eyes, watching her with great interest.

“Thinking of your Weiwei, aren’t you?” she teased.

He Qingqi’s face flushed slightly. She glanced at her but didn’t deny it.

She was the type who liked to share her feelings with others.

She pursed her lips and chuckled softly.

She was clearly deeply infatuated.

Even better, it seemed to be mutual.

Tao Jinghan glanced at her with a smile, finding her friend’s behavior quite amusing.

For the sake of her happiness, she couldn’t help but shoo her away.

“You should go back, or else Zhiwei might come looking for you.”

Tao Jinghan was careful to address Zhuo Zhiwei as “your Weiwei” or “Zhiwei,” not in a way that would provoke the possessive little lioness.

Instead, it made her feel extremely comfortable.

He Qingqi raised her chin slightly, looking quite pleased with herself.

“Knock knock.”

There was a gentle knock on the door.

“The door’s not locked; come in.”

Speak of the devil, in walked a face both cool and aloof, wearing a bear pajama set that someone must have bought her, inexplicably cute.

Her eyes held a hint of a smile, melting her cold exterior.

“Qingqi.”

She spoke the two words slowly, the tail end slightly drawn out in a soft, affectionate tone.

He Qingqi was instantly stunned, as if the world around them had suddenly fallen silent, leaving just the two of them. Her heart began to pound like a drum, and she swallowed nervously.

That moment’s feeling was indescribable for He Qingqi, but if she had to put it into words…

It was like when you’re stuck in a room with someone you don’t particularly get along with, and suddenly, a stunning beauty who makes your heart race walks in.

Tao Jinghan felt embarrassed, quietly nudging her with her elbow.

He Qingqi’s gaze gradually cleared, her ears turning a deep shade of red, sneaking a glance at Zhuo Zhiwei, then back at the ground, wanting to look but not daring to.

A woman in love, Tao Jinghan thought to herself.

No longer the arrogant and overbearing girl from “偶时” (Oushi).

Tao Jinghan could never forget the look they shared when they first met during the performance of “Immigrant Song,” that fiery, bold glance, like a leader who could stand tall and proud.

And now, look at her; she’s turned into a softie.

She clicked her tongue.

“Returning to the room and not finding you, I knew you’d be here with Jinghan.”

Zhuo Zhiwei’s voice was cool, but when she spoke to He Qingqi, there was an unexpected warmth, perhaps a gentle softness.

He Qingqi hurriedly got up, rushing over to grab Zhuo Zhiwei’s arm, as if she couldn’t wait to leave.

To show her loyalty, she even subtly complained about Tao Jinghan.

“Jinghan asked me to come over; otherwise, I’d be waiting in the bedroom for you.”

“Isn’t that right, Jinghan?” Her eyes hinted at a warning.

Tao Jinghan inwardly rolled her eyes, thinking that next time you’d better not come to my room to ship your own CP.

But she still replied with a bright smile, “Yes, yes, I asked her to come and chat for a while.”

The two exchanged a look, and He Qingqi caught the hint of disdain in her eyes, quietly shifting her gaze away.

“We’ll head back now, Jinghan.”

“Go on, go on.” Tao Jinghan waved her hand.

Watching He Qingqi practically drape herself over Zhuo Zhiwei, with Zhuo Zhiwei’s indulgent and doting expression, Tao Jinghan suddenly sighed.

“How enviable.”

Back in the bedroom, He Qingqi was the first to get on the bed, while Zhuo Zhiwei seemed to be rummaging for something in the wardrobe.

The longer she stood there, the more nervous He Qingqi became.

Finally, she buried herself completely under the covers, leaving only her big, dark eyes exposed.

The anxious wait for a verdict was too much to bear, and He Qingqi finally couldn’t take it anymore. She sat up, her voice small and pitiful as she called out, “Weiwei.”

Zhuo Zhiwei paused, turning to see the little lion sitting there with drooping ears, looking as if she had been wronged.

With a helpless smile, her voice softened. “What’s wrong?”

He Qingqi clutched the quilt, giving herself a pep talk for a few seconds before pouting, “I don’t want to sleep on the floor!”

She even had a bit of a spoiled, arrogant air about her.

Zhuo Zhiwei blinked, then, without warning, rolled up her sleeve and held her arm to He Qingqi’s lips.

He Qingqi was taken aback, glancing at the pale, slender, and beautifully lined arm, hesitating, “What are you doing?”

Zhuo Zhiwei’s gaze was clear, sincere, “I want to see if you’ll bite me.”

He Qingqi slowly tilted her head. “???”

Why did she think she would bite her?

After a moment, her face scrunched up, and she meekly asked again, “Do I really have to sleep on the floor? I don’t grind my teeth, and I don’t sleepwalk; I just talk in my sleep sometimes.”

“I’m really well-behaved!” she concluded, deliberately emphasizing the “really.”

Zhuo Zhiwei paused for a moment, then laughed softly, lowering her eyes. Her long eyelashes cast a mottled shadow on her face under the light, hiding the joy in her eyes.

Although she knew the other probably didn’t mean anything else by it, the fact that she wanted to share a bed was enough to make her happy.

When she looked up again, her eyes were smiling as she looked at her. “Why would you think I’d make you sleep on the floor?”

He Qingqi blinked, not quite understanding, but still explained, “When we were in London sharing a room, you made me sleep on the floor.”

“For two days!”

Zhuo Zhiwei sat beside her, her tone gentle. “Do you remember what you told me before that?”

With her crush right in front of her, He Qingqi’s heart was pounding wildly, almost feeling like it would burst out of her chest.

Looking at Zhuo Zhiwei, who appeared even more stunning under the light, He Qingqi felt herself going weak, as if she might faint from how mesmerizing she was.

But for the sake of tonight’s privilege, He Qingqi knew she couldn’t faint.

She thought for a moment, hesitating before cautiously guessing, “That… we were too close, and it felt strange, so we should… keep some distance?”

Zhuo Zhiwei patiently led her along, asking, “And did you still feel that way this morning?”

He Qingqi’s eyes lit up, her tone sure. “No!” There was even a bit of excitement, like a student in class who had just answered a question correctly.

Zhuo Zhiwei nodded at her, her gaze as sincere as it could be.

Those pure eyes seemed to hold a convincing power.

He Qingqi felt herself becoming even more flustered, with pink bubbles practically floating around her.

Her eyes turned into crescents as she gazed at her with shining eyes, concluding, “Weiwei, you’re so good!”

Not only did she not get angry at her slightly rude words, but she also respected her feelings so much.

No wonder I like her. He Qingqi thought, deeply moved, determined to treat Zhuo Zhiwei even better in return.

Zhuo Zhiwei said nothing more, her gaze still sincere, but as she turned away, she couldn’t help but smile.

This fool is so easy to deceive.

Did it never cross her mind that maybe I was just using it as an excuse to get back at her?
