Part 2
December 15th, 1026 of the Imperial Calendar.
The Great Grantz Empire―Fort Taoen.
It was a sunny but cold morning.
The icy air stung the skin so much that it was almost too much to get out of bed.
White breath mixed with the air changed shape with the wind and disappeared into the sky as if melting into the air.
But for a special profession―soldiers―it didn’t matter if it was cold or hot. They were running so fast to protect their families, friends, and nation that they could not feel the cold.
Fort Taoen was full of noise and was bustling.
The reason was the discovery of a huge army of “monsters” appearing before them, black shadows moving on the horizon.
No one looked at them calmly.
No one cowered in fear.
No one ran away.
The soldiers of Grantz took up their positions in an orderly fashion as if to intercept the monsters that had appeared.
A huge lion’s banner flew in the wind.
It was the symbol of Grantz, the stronghold of their hearts, and the pride of all who live in Grantz.
30,000 Grantz heavy cavalry, 10,000 Grantz light cavalry, 20,000 Grantz heavy infantry, and 10,000 Grantz infantry.
A total of 70,000 troops awaited the starting whistle.
There was no sign of a drop in morale. In fact, their spirit was burning.
They begin to stomp their feet, waiting for the battle to begin.
Military boots roared, breaking through the clouds and shooting high into the sky.
The monsters began to howl in defeat at the warlike atmosphere.
Amidst the chorus of the two armies, there was one army of a divisional class quietly watching the battlefield.
They were the elite soldiers of the Levering Kingdom.
Less than 10,000 strong, they were positioned on the right wing of the Grantz’s army.
They were few in number. But they were a demon race. Their tactics and destructive power were tremendous, taking advantage of their superior physique to that of the human race.
Leading them was Claudia, the absolute monarch whom they revered as their queen.
She said nothing, listening to the chorus of both armies and simply smiling.
On the other side of the line―next to the left wing of the Grantz Army―was the Raven Army of 4,000 men.
Their black uniforms were a sight to behold. Behind them, a large banner was raised to match the lion’s crest banner.
It was the banner of the God of War, with a dragon holding a silver and white sword on a black background.
The flapping banner, driven by the wind, had a majestic presence as if a dragon were swimming in the sky. The Raven Army, all black with an eerie aura, was a powerful force, each of them possessing the flames of the God of War in their eyes. They stared at the enemy before them, holding their breath as they tried to slaughter them.
The fever swelled.
The Grantz soldiers raised their weapons to the sky and began to shout.
Liz, the commander, with their voices behind her, as if cheering, turned her attention to Aura, who was standing next to her.
“Even though we are more numerous, their morale is as good as ours.”
“Yes, we can fight them. Liz can be carried to the desired location.”
Aura nodded and then gave her a reproachful look.
When the pressure was on, Liz grunted and backed away.
“W-what is it?”
“In order to fulfill Liz’s wishes, the soldiers are forced to do reckless things. So you must never fail. Remember that.”
“Y-yeah. I know. I’ll make sure it succeeds.”
The Grantz Army consisted of heavy infantry and infantry in the center, with an elite cavalry group led by Liz in front of them. Both wings were positioned lower than the center, with heavy cavalry and light cavalry, and though the formation was Dragon Wing, it was an odd one.
“I’m counting on you. I’ll take care of this side. Liz, don’t worry about anything; just keep your eyes on the front.”
With a wicked smile like a villain, Aura straddled her horse and moved backward,
The reason why she did not follow Liz was only because of her lack of fighting skills. The other reason was that Liz had left the command of the entire army completely in Aura’s hands.
Liz looked away from Aura, then straddled her beloved horse and looked ahead.
Then Meteor, a halfling of the beastmen and the long-eared race approached her.
“Liz-sama, are you okay?”
Liz pulled her horse close to Meteor, who looked serious and patted her head. Her eyes narrowed ticklishly, and her cheeks reddened with embarrassment, but she still did not refuse, and her head was patted softly.
“Don’t worry. I won’t turn my back on you anymore. I’ll push Hiro away and leave him behind.”
“Then I’ll go after the abandoned Hiro.”
“Yes, come after me with him.”
Liz pulled the Flame Emperor from her waist, her heart pounding in her chest.
“From now on, I’ll make my own way.”
The tip of her sword, thrust skyward, pointed at the sun.
Meteor’s eyes were dazzled by the diffused light reflected from the sunlit blade, and her great tail wagged as she expressed her joy.
“Light a flame in your heart!”
Liz raised her voice.
Then the stomping stopped, and the soldiers straightened their backs and changed their postures.
“We must give our pride, we must give our faith, and the sun will burn our enemies to ashes!”
Liz raised the spirits of the Grantz soldiers for the final battle.
“Give victory to the Twelve Great Gods of our Grantz!”
The horns were blown loudly.
It rode the wind, traveled through the air, shook the room, and echoed like a wolfsbane across the battlefield.
The heat exploded.
“Dedicate the victory to our Red-Haired Princess!”
The shouts of the Grantz soldiers became one, and a loud volume was exhaled that seemed to shoot down from the sky. They slammed their spears and swords against their shields and stomped their feet loudly. All united their minds by joining their roaring voices. Awakening the instinct that lay dormant within them, they roared like beasts.
“Every single one of them――”
Liz swung her raised arm down with a mighty sweep.
“――Overrun them.”
With a solemn, bewitching smile, her beauty shining, she kicked her horse’s belly first.
The white wolf woman also smiled and gave an enthusiastic yell, then followed her.
Not to be left behind, the Grantz soldiers begin to run, following the women’s backs as their targets.
Aura gazes dazedly at Liz’s back as she and Meteor run toward the battlefield.
“Chief of Staff Aura!”
“What?”
“The second group is rushing to the battlefield.”
“…That’s fine. The right and left flanks are charging as well. Dedicate the victory to Her Highness Celia Estrella.”
After receiving such passionate feelings, perhaps it was a man’s heart that made him want to respond to them.
Even Aura, who was a woman, felt that Liz’s back was reliable and that she could not leave it alone, something that stimulated her maternal feelings.
And suddenly, Aura found herself clenching her fists.
She seemed to have been hit by the same heat as the Grantz soldiers.
But she had to take a deep breath to calm her mind and make a calm decision.
“I have to be aware of my surroundings. The monster has a commander now. We cannot let our guard down.”
Aura also slowly moved her horse forward while giving instructions to the staff.
The other monsters were unintelligent, and normally, it would be impossible for them to work together.
However, they now have an intelligent unit leader called the Marked Tribe. The monsters that were held back by force seem to be obedient.
This was because even from a distance from where Aura was, there were no foolish monsters that would rush in and show impatience with their movements.
It was also a testament of her good leadership.
If there were more monsters in the army, the Grantz would probably be outnumbered as time went on. However, if they could maintain their current momentum and focus on destroying the Marked Tribe that controlled the monsters, the chain of command would be disorganized, and the opponent would easily fall apart.
Aura looked around. Specifically, she watched the movements of the two wings of the Grantz, and the Levering Army, the Raven Army positioned next to them.
Their movements were crucial to victory.
Considering the neighboring villages and towns, they could not let the monsters escape.
Therefore, Aura had chosen the strategy of encirclement and annihilation.
This was the God of War’s preferred tactic, and it was also the tactic on which the God of War built his myth of invincibility.
This was why Aura liked to use this tactic. Especially if it was a battle where she could not afford to lose.
“I have my own beliefs. This is my oath that we will win.”
Every single monster in this land would be destroyed.
In order to do that, they had to be completely stripped of the power to resist.
