Chapter 1192: Job Overview

Black looked at his Communicator and waited. It had been stating that it was evaluating the Formation Array for about a minute now.

'It usually doesn't take that long,' Kyle thought.

A moment later, Kyle felt space warping, which was the sign of someone teleporting.

Just as expected, a person appeared inside Kyle's Workshop just a bit later. Surprisingly, the person was not exactly a human but some kind of humanoid insect. It was a bit smaller than Kyle and had several tentacle-like appendages covered in chitin. Its massive head comprised almost 30% of its entire mass.

"Hey," Kyle said when he saw the newcomer.

"Evaluation is in progress," the insect transmitted with a machine-like cadence.

"Sure," Kyle commented as he kept waiting.

A moment later, the appendages of the insect placed several Formation Arrays around Kyle's Formation Array and activated them. Within less than a second, Kyle's Workshop was covered in over 30 Formation Arrays.

'Dude, this guy places Formation Arrays like ten times faster than me!' Kyle thought. 'Based on the Energy around it, it's only an Adept Immortal, and yet, it's so much faster! I really am still a beginner.'

"Evaluation complete," it transmitted. "You have passed the Screening. This one is the Supervising Engineer of Auxiliary Manufacturing Plant 8 of the Elemental Branch. Supervisor is sufficient. State your identity."

"My name is Kyle," Kyle transmitted.

"Declare your priorities, Kyle," the Supervisor transmitted.

"Not sure what you mean," Kyle answered.

"Everyone has a purpose or goal. You entered the Screening. You want to contribute to the cause with Formation Arrays. Engineers have strengths and weaknesses. We require more details."

"Well, I want to learn more about Formation Arrays, for starters," Kyle transmitted. "I'm pretty good with the Elements. I know a lot about Karmic Luck. I guess my weaknesses are the Primordial Forces."

"Kyle, you know the Major Law of Primordial Forces. This is your weakness?" the Supervisor asked.

"Yes," Kyle answered. "I know much more about the Elements. I have all of the Level Six Laws of the Elements and four of the Level Seven Laws."

Naturally, Kyle wouldn't tell the Supervisor that he already knew all of the Laws of Immortal Elements or that he had already combined them to create a Refined Law.

"Omni-Elemental specializations are rare but valuable. Given sufficient resources, how much time will be required to finish comprehension of the remaining Immortal Elements?" the Supervisor asked.

"Not entirely sure," Kyle answered. "Probably something like 200,000 years, assuming I have access to a Complex Artificial Law Well and Comprehension Fruits."

"Estimate of time without Comprehension Fruits?"

"More like 600,000 years."

"Acceptable efficiency," the Supervisor answered. "Auxiliary Manufacturing Plant 8 is willing to recruit you as a Formation Materializer Trainee."

"I'm unfamiliar with that term," Kyle answered. "I can't accept without knowing my options."

"The FAD is divided into three branches. The Elemental Branch focuses on Formation Arrays dealing with the Elements. We primarily deal with Offensive and Defensive Formation Arrays, but we also deal with Auxiliary Formation Arrays secondarily."

"The Force Branch focuses on the Primordial Forces. It primarily deals with Auxiliary and Defensive Formation Arrays. The Energy Branch combines the research of the other two Branches, aiming to maximize output."

"Every branch has three Departments. The Creation Department designs and prepares Formation Arrays. The Deployment Department builds the Formation Arrays and uses them. The Maintenance Department maintains and optimizes the deployed Formation Arrays based on key metrics."

"Here's an overview of some tasks."

"Formation Technician, Maintenance Department: Needs to have scattered but numerous insights in different Laws. Their job is to travel from Formation Array to Formation Array to ensure peak efficiency and reliability. Entry point is Beginner Immortal Formation Array Master."

"Formation Energizer, Maintenance Department: Measures and optimizes Energy Input for deployed Formation Arrays. Resources are limited. Formation Energizers make sure that we don't run out of resources. They require significant levels of experience. Lowest entry point is Beginner Lord Formation Array Master."

"Formation Inspector, Maintenance Department: This role is exclusive to the Energy Branch. They analyze the entire Formation Array Networks of major strongholds and find ways to reduce friction between Formation Arrays. Entry point is Minor Lord Formation Array Master."

"Formation Soldier, Deployment Department: Formation Soldiers are the backbone of our army. They create Formation Arrays to strengthen and support our actual soldiers. Entry point is Beginner Immortal Formation Array Master."

"Formation officer, Deployment Department: They work with other officers to plan a network of Formation Arrays during an assault. They deploy Formation Soldiers and decide what Formation Arrays they use. Entry point is Minor Immortal Formation Array Master."

"Formation Fortifier, Deployment Department: They work in teams to create complex and powerful Formation Arrays during battle. These Formation Arrays can exhibit powers beyond their level but require several people to set up. Entry point is Beginner Immortal Formation Array Master."

"Formation Designer, Creation Department: They design efficient Formation Arrays for Formation Soldiers. Changes in requirements and efficiencies allow more Formation Soldiers to use more Formation Arrays. Entry point is Minor Immortal Formation Array Master."

"Formation Materializer, Creation Department: They create the materials for all other roles. Materials range from simple materials to Advanced Materials. Entry point is Beginner Immortal Formation Array Master."

"There are more sub-roles, but this overview should suffice," the Supervisor transmitted.

Kyle thought about the jobs for a bit.

'This really is some kind of industrial complex. They have all of these individual jobs, and all of them have their respective roles,' Kyle thought. 'I don't want to join the Maintenance Department since it feels like a dead end. There's not much I can learn there. I also don't want to join the Deployment Department since I don't want to be part of battles.'

'The Creation Department seems to be my best bet. In fact, I think I would prefer being a Materializer over being a Formation Designer. Before the Screening, I wouldn't have made this choice. After all, who cares about materials?'

'Yet, with Advanced Material Fusion, things have become very different. At this point, assembling the Formation Array is just the easiest and last step. Creating the materials is the actual hard part. There are Formation Arrays within materials within Formation Arrays within materials and so on. This shit goes so fucking deep. Formation Designers probably have a list of all kinds of materials and try to find a good use for them. Materializers create all of these materials.'

"Materializer sounds like the right path for me," Kyle transmitted. "I'm sure I can be of use. However, what do I get out of it?"

"Comprehension, Energy Stones, materials, tutoring, and other benefits are available based on services rendered. You will receive free training to teach you how to create the least complex materials. Every material produced will grant you credits, which you might exchange for further training. Furthering your skills grants you access to more complex and more rewarding jobs."

"So," Kyle transmitted, "I could technically work while also learning about Formation Arrays? After all, I have Avatars."

"Basic Material Fusion does not require dedicated focus. Comprehension during work is unproblematic," the Supervisor answered. "In fact, it is encouraged. The higher and vaster your skillset, the more value you will bring to us."

Kyle nodded. "Sounds great! Then, I will accept your offer!"
