Chapter 1194: Excursion Lobby
Chapter 1194: Excursion Lobby
Kyle made some last-minute preparations for the Excursion before going to the Descension Plaza with his Avatars.
When he arrived, he found Sebastian, who now went by Lost Spark, and Abyssal Depths waiting for him.
"Did everything work out?" Kyle asked Sebastian.
"Everything's good," Sebastian answered with a smile. "Comprehending the Major Primordial Force Laws was easier than expected."
"That means you can now sense the surrounding 440,000 kilometers or so?" Kyle asked.
"Probably," Sebastian replied with a shrug. "I haven't left the city yet. Can't really test my Divine Consciousness here."
"It should work," Abyssal Depths interjected. "As discussed, I've searched for more members, but I didn't find anyone useful or trustworthy. Not many people want to join a new Excursion Team."
"As expected," Kyle commented with a roll of his eyes. "I guess our Karmic Luck and our status as unaffiliated Immortals also don't help."
"Most people view us as suicidal idiots," Abyssal Depths transmitted. "Most likely, my search for members has also awakened greed in a couple of people. We might be the prime targets of a couple of Excursion Teams."
"I noticed," Kyle commented. "I've talked to a couple of people with my green Avatar, and I noticed that several of them already knew about my identity. A bunch of them even warned me, but I also noticed that half of the people who warned me actually just want to kill us.""Karmic Luck?" Abyssal Depths asked.
"Yes, I noticed it due to the small changes in their Karmic Luck," Kyle answered.
"At least we have a good Karmic Senser this time," Abyssal Depths commented. "My last team didn't have a good one."
"Well, in exchange for a good Karmic Senser, you got a shit Formation Array Master," Kyle said with a laugh.
Abyssal Depths didn't comment.
"Anyway, what about our lineup?" Kyle asked. "We should go with five people, which means going with five Avatars, right? We technically don't need five members if we send multiple Avatars."
"We can send in several Avatars, but that will make us a target," Abyssal Depths answered. "Losing two Avatars is much worse than losing one Avatar, and since we don't have the insurance fee, things might turn ugly."
Kyle shrugged. "Well, whatcha gonna do? We don't have the money."
With Excursions, there was an unwritten rule. Nobody wanted to lose an Avatar, but they also didn't want to lose any Energy Stones. Over time, the rule of the insurance fee had been established. People weren't forced to follow the rule, but it was good manners to respect it.
If someone handed over 10% of the Energy Stones they needed to advance after losing a battle, good manners dictated that the winner was supposed to spare the Avatars of the losing team.
In the distant past, people had left all of their valuables with the Avatars in the Protected City. When battles inevitably broke out, due to a lack of valuables, the Avatars of the losing team were killed. Over time, this created Immortals with only one Avatar, and these Immortals essentially couldn't leave the city since everyone knew that this Immortal now carried all of their valuables with them. This led to many Immortals forever staying in the Protected City, conjuring Energy Stones, which led to fewer people to kill and rob outside the city.
That was why it was encouraged to carry some wealth with the leaving Avatar. Alternatively, one could also pay the winner in the Excursion Lobby.
"Are you sure you want to leave with several Avatars?" Abyssal Depths asked.
"I think I'll go with two," Kyle answered. "I don't think it makes a lot of sense for Sebastian to leave with two as well. Maybe we should just go with four Avatars."
"You're the leader," Abyssal Depths agreed with a nod.
Sebastian also nodded.
"Do we go to the Lobby or not?" Kyle asked.
"It gives us valuable information," Abyssal Depths answered.
"It also gives them valuable information about us," Sebastian added.
"Hell, why not? I say, we go," Kyle said.
The other two agreed, and moments later, they told their Communicators to teleport them to the Excursion Lobby.
When the teleportations finished, the team found itself in a ridiculously large arena. The arena was thousands of kilometers wide, and there were tens of thousands of Immortals currently sitting inside of it. Almost all of the Immortals had gathered in teams.
This was the Excursion Lobby. The Excursion Lobby acted as a meeting place for everyone who was currently in an Excursion. Immortals had several Avatars, and when they went on an Excursion, they usually left one of their Avatars in the Excursion Lobby.
Like this, they could see the other teams and even talk to them. Alliances could be created without the Excursion Teams meeting each other outside the city. If necessary, some teams could also borrow resources from other teams. One could liken it to a big LAN party. People would be playing against each other inside a game while being in the same room with their opponents. The important distinction was that this was very much real life, not a game.
None of the other Excursion Teams reacted when Kyle's team arrived, but that didn't mean that they hadn't noticed. Most likely, almost every team near their level had noticed their arrival.
Above each team was a projected sign that showed their team name, affiliation, and average level. This made it easier to find the teams and to make decisions.
After all, some Lower and Higher Supreme Organizations had alliances and rivalries. If one team found another Excursion Team outside, they could check in the Excursion Lobby to see if that team was allied with them.
Most of the teams had unassuming names. Red Team 1557, Grass Team 7, Tree Team 987, Team Mouse, Team Hare, and so on. The reason was that bombastic names attracted attention, and weaker teams didn't desire attention. Only the stronger teams chose imposing names.
"What will be our name?" Abyssal Depths asked.
"I've already thought of one," Kyle answered with a smirk.
Abyssal Depths didn't like Kyle's smirk. "Are you going to give us a name I won't like?"
"Depends," Kyle answered with a playful voice. "Do you like dinosaurs?"
"Dinosaurs?" Abyssal Depths asked as Sebastian became interested.
"Ancient and big reptiles from Earth," Kyle commented.
"Never heard of them," Abyssal Depths answered. "I've met some people who came from some of these Earths, but I've never heard about dinosaurs."
"We like them on Earth," Kyle commented. "You remember our plan? You know, about how we act and conduct ourselves."
"We want to harvest natural resources and find valuables," Abyssal Depths answered. "Conflict can lead to more conflict, increasing risk and reward. There are enough natural resources, which makes the increased risk not worth the increased reward. However, if we get attacked, we will strike back with our full power. That's what we agreed on, correct?"
"That's also how I remember it," Sebastian added.
Kyle smiled. "Yep, that's our philosophy, and I've chosen a fitting name for us."
Red typed on his Communicator for a bit, and moments later, a projected sign appeared above their team.
Team Ankylosaurus.
Average power: Beginner Immortal.
Affiliation: None.
When Sebastian saw the name, he laughed. "You had to choose that one, huh?"
"Of course," Kyle replied with a smirk.
"Why?" Abyssal Depths asked. "What is an Ankylosaurus?"
"It's fitting," Sebastian commented. "It's an herbivore. That makes it sound like a pushover, but that wasn't the case at all. They were heavily armored and had a powerful hammer for a tail. They didn't hunt other animals, but if a predator tried to hunt them, they would have a rude awakening. There were fossils that showed signs of Ankylosaurus killing one of the biggest predators during its period, Tyrannosaurus Rex."
Abyssal Depths looked at the sign for a moment before looking at Kyle's hammer.
"Fitting name."
