Chapter 945: Heart Demon
Chapter 945: Heart Demon
Max just smiled at her in lieu of telling her.
Kayla understood he was unwilling to say, so she dropped the topic and asked, “How’s Rima? I heard she was quite seriously injured.”
“Yes, she was. She is recovering well now.” answered Max.
“That’s good news.” Both Kayla and Nia sighed in relief.
“You should go meet her sometime. She would feel good.” Max said to Kayla.
Nia’s face fell a little seeing him ignore her, but it was only for a moment before she put on a normal expression. She was aware of her status and thus knew she couldn’t afford to be upset with people like him.
“I would love to, but unlike you, I can’t enter the Core Hall wherever I want. I would need special permission for that.” Kayla said.
Max knew of this and instinctively wanted to contact Elder Milo to get her permission but then he remembered what he must have already left on the mission he told him about.
“I see if I can get you permission.” Max said before giving his identity badge to her and asking her to add her contact information which she did.
Once they were done and Kayla was about to take her leave, he said, “Ms. Kayla. I overheard those guys saying something along the lines that ‘you still haven’t learned your lesson’. Can you tell me what they do to you?”
Kayla’s expression slowly turned dark. Then, killing intent appeared in her eyes and her aura became unstable.
Swoosh!
Nia hurriedly retreated, looking at her in fear. She had reacted fast enough, but her aura had washed over her for a brief moment and it had made her feel as if she had fallen in an icy hell.
“Ms. Kayla. Calm down.” Max said, infusing his Bloodline Energy into his voice. He was using his Bloodline Energy the second time in such a short while—he had left some of his Bloodline Energy into that female disciple cheek and kept it under his control with the Bloodline Sense. When Ivan arrived, he triggered it and erased the hand-print—If someone powerful enough was spying on him, he would have surely become exposed.
Fortunately, he didn’t have any premonition which told him he was still safe.
Kayla calmed down. Then through gnashed teeth, she said, “I was forced into a ranking battle and they… killed my companion beast.”
Max’s expression darkened.
For the disciple of the Beast Emperor Hall, their companion beast was very important as it was bonded with them.
If it was killed without the bond being undone, it would cause serious harm to the disciple, or to be more specific, their soul. Soul Damage was among the most serious and difficult to heal injuries along with the Dantian injury.
If just this alone wasn’t nearly enough to ruin the disciples’ future, in the case the disciples had a close relationship with their companions beasts, their death would give birth to a heart demon which would ensure the disciples would have slim hope to make a perfect recovery.
And seeing how she had lost control just remembering it, she fell in the latter category—she had developed a heart demon.
After this realization, not only did he feel his murderous intent for the Grimheart Faction become stronger, he also felt admiration for Kayla for her impressive control over her emotions.
They had tried to provoke her so much earlier, but she didn’t let her anger trigger her heart demon and let things go out of control. Moreover, despite what had happened, and apparently because of her relationship with Rima, not only did she not resent her, she even went out of her way to stand up for her maid.
“I’m—” He was about to apologize, but Kayla interrupted him, “Let’s talk later. I need to go and calm down.”
Swoosh!
Then she was gone.
Max stared in the direction she left, then took a deep breath.
He then looked at Nia and said, “Come with me. After I’m done with an errand, I’ll take you to Rima.”
Nia looked at him in surprise. ‘So he wasn’t ignoring me, but he had already decided to take me to her.’
She suddenly felt her mood become lighter. Then, she asked, “But Young Lord, won’t I need permission to enter the Core Hall too?”
“You are still Rima’s servant, right?” Max asked her.
Nia took out her identity badge, checked it and nodded, “Yes.”
“Then don’t worry,” he said. Then he turned around and headed toward the Talisman Hall. Nia quickly followed him.
…
In one of the Disciplinary Hall’s buildings…
In a large hall, Ivan Grimheart was sitting on a large throne-like chair on a platform.
Below him knelt the five disciples that tried taking Nia away.
All of them had whip marks all over them which were bleeding.
“…Young Lord, I really don’t know how he did it. I swear. Please let me off—”
Crack!
A whip snapped as landed on his back, leaving another long wound on her back the pain of which made her freeze for an instant, then she let out a loud, anguished howl.
At the same time, another four whips struck the other four who all also let out miserable cries.
The disciplinary hall disciples that were whipping them would look at Ivan every now and then because by now, they had struck more than fifty times—even for the Five Star mages, taking so many whippings of the Disciplinary Hall was a tall task. This was why disciples thought multiple times before breaking any rules and being taken to the hall.
Ivan, however, watched them in silence, showing no intention of stopping them.
Thus, the whipping continued.
After a long while, when three of the five had fainted, he finally waved his hand, “Take them away. Also, go invite Elder Bismirch. I want him to find out how the fuck did the hand print vanished from this bitch’s face.”
The female disciple who Max had slapped trembled, terror flashing in her eyes when she heard this. She opened her mouth to plead mercy, but the whippings had drained her of all her energy. Her eyes rolled back and she also fainted.
