Chapter 1817: Suffering From Success
Chapter 1817: Suffering From Success
"This is... divinity?" Nathan glanced to the side. There was a young girl, much younger than Hgahuku.
However, her strength seemed to be on par with Hgahuku. The most surprising thing was the fact that a divinity had been attached to this girl’s body. That divinity was the one negating the power of his time domain.
The girl looked exhausted. Her face was even paler than the people around her. Despite her condition, she dragged her own body to this place to find him.
Nathan realized that this girl might be the reason Hgahuku ventured deep into the mist.
"Khlina." Hgahuku rushed toward her, worried about her well-being.
"Khlina..." The old chief didn’t know what to say.
The girl politely bowed to Nathan. "Khlinatarha Wakuhka greets the visitor from another world."
"Oh? You don’t look surprised about my presence here."
"I’ve known of the existence of other worlds from my master. My master knows that the inhabitants from other worlds can be bystanders, allies, or even enemies."
"And you don’t think I’m an enemy?"
"With your power and the people behind you... there’s no need for you to be talking to us. If you wish, you can destroy this world and no one can stop you."
"What?" The old chief was dumbfounded.
Nathan smiled. "All I wish is to talk. I don’t come here to make an enemy."
"In that case, please allow me to invite you to my humble abode. I hope you don’t take offense at our poor reception."
"Very well."
"And I know it’s too much to ask, but please release these people. They don’t know anything."
Nathan snapped his fingers, removing the time domain.
"W-What?!"
"The enemies..."
The people wanted to attack Nathan since Nathan had used his ability against them, but the old chief shouted, "Stand down!"
"Chief..."
They were dumbfounded.
"Everyone, I’d like to ask all of you to stand down. These people are my guests."
"The high priestess’s guests?"
They hesitated, but even the old chief looked like he was following the girl’s orders. Hence, they lowered their weapons.
"Please." Khlina extended her hand to the side, gesturing for Nathan and his companions to follow her.
Nathan nodded, asking the girls to follow him as he recalled Peng.
Nathan looked around. Even though they called themselves tribes, they were actually big enough to make a small town. In addition, they seemed to have settled down for quite some time, considering their houses were made of bricks and clay.
Most of the houses had the shape of a cylinder with a cone-shaped roof, surrounded by some grasses surrounding them.
Khlina brought him to the only two-story house in this tribe, leading them to the second floor.
The interior was made of bricks with hay covering the top and a layer of soft wood to keep them in place.
"I’m not sure what the etiquette is in your world, but I hope that this treatment is satisfactory." Khlina sat down with both knees on the floor. Hgahuku and the old chief sat down behind her.
"We don’t mind that." Nathan smiled, reassuring her. Since Khlina seemed to be the one who would do the talking, Nathan couldn’t help but ask Hgahuku, "So, she is the one you wish to cure?"
"Ah!" Hgahuku was startled. Khlina turned to Hgahuku as if demanding an explanation, while the old chief raised his voice. "So, you really went to the Great Mist?"
"I heard that the Valhalla Flower, which only bloomed in the Great Mist, would help her."
"That’s reckless. The creatures that live there are much stronger than you."
"But..."
Khlina lowered her head. "I apologize for my brother’s foolish actions. I’d like to thank you for saving him as well."
"So, you are the one."
"My condition... is not that simple. People call me a genius, but that’s because my body can absorb the mist much more efficiently than the others. However, the mist itself is harmful to the body. Because I absorb too much mist at a time. Other people only have a portion of my efficiency, but that allows their metabolism to circulate and expel the mist at the same or higher rate than their intake."
"But the reason you become stronger is not because of the mist, right?"
"That’s correct. We get stronger because when we absorb the mist, we also absorb the spirit energy within the mist. For people like me, the only way to get stronger is to absorb solely the spirit energy from within the essence of those creatures as it contains no mist. Unfortunately, I realize my body’s condition is too late."
"I want to save you! You are so talented that you are favored by the Lord of the Mist. More importantly, you are my younger sister." Hgahuku banged his head to the ground. "Please. If you can save my sister, I am willing to do anything."
"Brother... that’s enough. I know my condition best. Even if you bring that flower, it won’t help me. Even the Lord of the Mist knows that." She shook her head. "I don’t even know where you got that information."
Nathan waved his hand. "I respect the love of a brother for his sister. I’ve promised him to take a look at your condition. Since you’re the one who is doing all the talking, I might as well treat you first so that you will be in a better condition to talk."
"That’s..." Khlina shook her head. "I know my condition, I..."
"Anubis!" Nathan summoned Anubis.
They were startled by the sudden appearance of the jackal. Khlina was probably the only one who could sense the divinity from Anubis.
"So, you want me to treat her." Anubis squinted his eyes.
"Can you do it?"
Anubis shook his head. "No."
"What?" Hgahuku froze while Khlina closed her eyes as though she had expected this answer. Even her master, who was supposed to be on the same level as Nathan and Anubis, wasn’t capable of doing anything.
To her surprise, Anubis added, "Her condition is linked directly to the mist. After examining the mist that is still sticking to your skin, using my ability will purify your entire body.
"The mist itself is toxic. If you had entered this world using your normal body, your organs would have crystallized by now. And these people have adapted to this world by infusing the mist into their bodies, but they have adapted so that their bodies can regulate the mist.
"If I use my power, I might end up removing all the substances in her body. In this world, that’s basically a death sentence."
"..." Nathan was speechless. "So, the reason you can’t is that you’re too powerful?"
