Chapter 624: The Evening That Followed the Sword

The Evening That Followed the Sword

The big doors to the treasury closed with a noise behind Leon. It sounded like a metal sigh that went all the way down the hallway. Leon walked into the hallway on the side. He could still feel the heaviness of the vault. His shoulders went up and down as he took a breath. It was like he had left a problem behind him in the ground with all the gold and secrets. The treasury was really something that had taken a lot out of him. Leon felt like he was finally, out of a place. The treasury doors were. He was moving on.

He just stood there for a moment. The cold of the stone started to seep back into his skin.

The two guards standing at the entrance suddenly stood up straight when they saw him. These were the men, as before. They were big and strong and they stood very still like they were trying not to move. Their eyes were sharp and they looked very loyal you could tell by the way they were standing.

They all bowed at the time their fists pressed over their hearts the people bowed together.

"Sire."

Leon answered with a little nod and a quiet "Mm". He looked really tired.

They held their bows. First they looked up at him for a very short time. They saw how his hair was messy not neat like it usually was. There was a bit of dirt on his jaw and his collar was dark because he was sweating a lot. He was not really hurt,. He looked like he had just fought something very big and strong and had managed to walk away because he really wanted to. The people with the bows saw that he looked like someone who had been through a fight. They looked at the state he was in. It was clear that he had been, through something difficult.

Their eyes looked at everything with an professional way. They did not show any alarm. They did not show much curiosity. They just saw a man who had tried hard and was very tired because of it. Their eyes saw the effort the strain, of a man who had pushed himself and was paying for it.

A lesser man would have asked questions.

Someone who is not very smart would have written a comment. A foolish person would have commented.

These people did not say anything. They are men.

Leon rolled his neck once. A soft crack filled the air. The room was really quiet before that. Then Leon squared his shoulders. It was like he was trying to shake off something that was bothering him even though you could not see it. When Leon spoke his voice was low.. It was steady too. You could tell Leon was really tired because his voice sounded a little rough.. Leon still sounded like he was, in charge.

Lock the treasury. Make sure it is really locked. Check it one time then check it and check it one more time. Your job is finished now. I am going to leave. The treasury is your responsibility so lock the treasury and make sure it is secure.

The guard said "yes" away and he pounded his fist on his breastplate to show respect.

The other person bowed a bit later. "We will make sure everything is okay all, at once with the things that need to be secured."

Leon did not wait for anything. He was already moving. His mind was already halfway gone thinking about the stone and the resistance he had felt. He was thinking about the sword that was buried in the boulder. The sword had answered him it had moved a little bit. Leon could still feel the weight of the sword in his hands. It felt like the sword was still there even though it was not. The sword had not quite decided if it was going to accept Leon. He was still thinking about the sword and the way it had felt in his hands. The sword was very important, to Leon.

Almost.

He walked out of the treasury building. The world said hello with a soft wind. The wind touched his face. Went under his collar taking away the little bit of sweat on his skin. It smelled like dirt and old rocks, which was nice after being inside with metal and closed air for long. The treasury building was behind him now. The wind was a nice change. The earth and old stone smell was around him a big difference, from the air he breathed inside the treasury building.

The man lifted his gaze. He looked up. Saw the things that were around him. The mans eyes were fixed on something. He kept looking at that thing for a time. The man was really looking at the thing that was, in front of him.

The sun was going down. It had already gone more than halfway, under the horizon. The sun was really low now.

The sky was turning into a violet color. It was soft and deep. The color was fading away at the edges of the sky. The violet color of the sky was really pretty.

Leon said to himself it is already evening.

He stood there for a moment just watching the pink and gold colors fade into blue. It was really quiet the kind of quiet that does not happen often. The world is usually really loud and crazy. For now it was calm. The noise had. All you could hear was the evening air moving slowly and the wind blowing gently through the rocks and trees.

His fingers moved a little remembering how the old sword felt. The sword was heavy. The metal was very strong. It would not bend easily. His fingers remembered the sword and how hard it was to use. The old sword was very stubborn. It did not want to move.

I need to practice. I should go try and pull that broad sword out of the stone properly this time the broad sword that has been giving me so much trouble. The broad sword is really hard to pull out. I want to get the sword out so bad.

The urge came back. Usual annoying feeling. But his body reacted before he could even think about it. His legs hurt a little. His shoulders felt a bit sore. There was still sweat on his skin and even though the evening air was cooling him down it would not let him forget how much he had already done. His breathing felt different too like the air was thicker and harder to take in. It felt warm and heavy in his chest. The urge was still there and his body was feeling it his legs were aching his shoulders were. The sweat, on his skin was a reminder of how far he had pushed himself and how much the urge had already taken over.

Leon let out a breath. He was really letting it all out. Leon felt like he had been holding that breath for a time. Now Leon was finally letting go.

No I do not want to do it. I will train tomorrow. If I keep going the training will only make me more upset, with myself.

He looked down at his shirt. It was all wet, from sweat. Had dirt and dust on it. The shirt was sticking to him. It felt bad. He pulled on the shirt without thinking then made a sound under his breath. His shirt was really bothering him. He did not like that it was all sweaty and dirty.

The man said "I need to take a bath" with a funny, worn out smile on his face. He really looked like he needed a bath. The bath was something he really had to do.

He started walking to his new house. The house was going to be his. He was really going to live there. He was walking to his manor. It was a deal for him to be moving into this new manor.

--------------

The Path Toward the Manor

The palace grounds were really confusing with lots of courtyards and corridors and gardens and stone paths. Some of these stone paths were narrow. Some were wide. The palace grounds had some stone paths that were lined with statues. The palace grounds also had some stone paths that were lined with hanging lanterns. These hanging lanterns, on the palace grounds would soon have fire in them. Look really nice. The firelight would make the palace grounds look beautiful.

Leon walked through all of the people. He saw every one of them as he made his way. Leon just kept going he walked through all of the crowds.

Right.

Left.

Another left.

A wide archway.

A small courtyard with a lone cherry blossom tree.

A path of pale stone bricks, still warm from the fading sun.

His feet made noise on the floor in an steady beat. Each step sounded different because he was walking on kinds of floors. It was like the palace was walking with him. He was tired. His body felt heavy but his mind would not calm down. His thoughts were over the place thinking about the sword he took the treasure he left behind and all the new things he had to do now. He thought about the people who were waiting for him at the manor. The sword he took was on his mind. So was the treasure he left behind. He had a lot of responsibilities and the people, at the manor were waiting for him.

The scenery opened up after a while. It was really nice to see the scenery, like that. The scenery looked totally different when it opened up.

He walked into one of the courtyards. It was big so big that it felt like his own world. The courtyard was very quiet and peaceful it felt like it was made to be calm and pretty. The space was wide and gentle like it was made to hold moments as much as beautiful things. He felt like he was, in a place the grand courtyard was a world of its own.

A gentle breeze, with a floral scent went by him. It touched his face. It smelled really sweet. This sweetness was not one smell it was many smells all mixed together. The smell was so nice that it made him walk slower. He did not even realize he was doing it. The floral breeze and the sweetness it carried were really nice.

Roses were over the place. They came in colors like red roses and white roses and gold roses. The petals on these roses looked really nice and soft in the light that was fading away. The roses were all grouped together in clusters. The light was going away. The petals, on the roses were still glowing softly. Roses really are flowers.

The lilies swayed along the edge. They had heads that bowed down. It looked like the lilies were talking to each other in a way. The lilies seemed to be having a conversation.

The jasmine vines went up the stone pillars. They were really thin and elegant. The jasmine vines had a smell that went through the air. The smell of the jasmine vines was very nice.

The hibiscus flowers were really beautiful. They were in full color near the fountains. The hibiscus flowers looked great with the water. You could see the hibiscus flowers, in the water because their reflections were rippling on the surface of the water.

Daffodils nodded gently, little stars caught in daylight, stubbornly bright against the growing dusk.
