Chapter 626: The New Manor

Chapter 626: The New Manor

The New Manor

When Leon was coming towards them everything changed fast. It was like someone suddenly made everyone stand up at the same time. Leon walked into the room and you could feel it Leon was there. People reacted to Leon.

The armor straightened up. Then the boots snapped together tightly. After that the backs stiffened. The armor was straightened. The boots were snapped together. The backs were stiffened. The people, in the armor straightened their armor. The boots snapped together and the backs stiffened.

Then every single one of the guards at the manors entrance bowed down low. They all did it at the time, which looked very neat. The guards were all bowing to someone every guard, at the entrance of the manor.

"Greeting, sire."

The words came together to make a sound that was loud and clear. It was not just that people respected her it was that they were trained to do. You could tell that these men were shaped by Alinas high standards, where they learned to never hesitate. Alinas standards were so high that people learned to be loyal only after they got rid of all their doubts.

Leon slowed down as he got to them. The night was really nice to him. It gave him a breeze that touched his skin and messed up his black hair, which was sweaty. Some of his hair fell on his forehead. Would not move. His shirt was. Not on right. It still smelled like dust and old things from the treasury he had just come from. The treasury was a place that made Leon feel tense. That feeling was still with him. Leon felt the night. It felt good to be, out of the treasury.

The guards saw it. Every single one of the guards did. The guards really saw it.

The place is a mess. He is still hanging around the edge of the room you can tell he was there.

Nobody said a word. It was completely silent. The silence was really awkward. Nobody said anything all.

Nobody moved.

Their discipline was strong like steel that has been made strong. They kept their eyes looking. Their jaws were tightly closed. There was a silence that felt like it was on purpose and it was very quiet with everyone holding back what they wanted to say. The silence was heavy, with people trying not to say anything. Their discipline held like steel.

Leon looked at them slowly. There were four guards tonight with two of them standing on each side of the doors of the manor. The light from the lanterns made shadows at their feet. Leon looked at each of the guards one by one. His eyes were a golden color and you could not tell what he was thinking. He noticed all the things, about them: the way they stood up straight the way they breathed slowly the way they were tense but trying not to show it. Leons golden eyes took in every detail of the guards.

The world just stopped for a second. All that was left was that really quiet moment when everything else faded away and the only thing that mattered was that quiet inspection. The world narrowed down to that inspection.

The guards stood still when Leon looked at them. Their armor was making a ticking sound as it cooled down. They were holding their breath for a bit too long. Leon looked at the guards the way you look at a knife. He was not checking if they looked good. He was checking if they were good to use. He wanted to know if they were balanced and if they had an edge. Importantly Leon wanted to know if the guards would do their job when it really mattered. The guards were like a weapon, to Leon. He needed to know if they would work properly when he needed them to.

Then Leon inclined his head, a little bit.

He looked at the four of them. Said "You four it is time to lock the treasury back up. The work you were doing in there is finished. Now the four of them need to focus on this manor because this manor is the four of them’s world now. The four of them have to understand that."

The words did not need to be loud. They carried something than being loud. Certainty. The words had certainty.

The people all said "Yes sire", at the time. They stood up straight. Their boots made a loud noise as they clicked together. It was like they were all connected and did everything together.

He went on to say, "This group of guards is in charge of keeping this manor Alina picked them herself. So you need to protect this place like your life depends on it because it does. This manor and the people in it are very important, to Alina and this guard unit is the ones who keep everything safe."

A flicker of something maybe pride or fear went through their eyes. Then discipline took over. That feeling was gone. It was like the person was, in control again and the pride or fear was not showing anymore. The discipline was strong. It stopped the pride or fear from taking over.

The peoples heads bowed again. The heads of the people bowed down again. The people lowered their heads again. The heads of the people stayed down.

Leon did not stay outside for long. He turned around. Stepped inside the place. Leon was now inside.

The moment he walked into the room he smelled something nice. It was a smell that was clean and pretty, like music. This smell went around him like someone was giving him a warm hug. The smell was like lavender, with a bit of wood and something sweet too. Somebody picked this smell on purpose they did not just choose it by chance. The smell of lavender was really nice it had a bit of wood and something sweeter underneath the person who chose this smell of lavender did a good job.

This was not just perfume. This was something. It was, like a message that said this place is for people to feel calm and relaxed. The perfume was a way to make people feel welcome and at home in this space. It was a way to say that this space is for people to belong.

The main hall had fancy lights hanging from the ceiling. These lights were seventy meters apart. They gave off a golden light that moved across the shiny marble floor. Each light had crystals hanging from it. When the light hit these crystals it. Looked like tiny pieces of stars falling. The main hall really looked nice with these lights. The way they made the floor shine. The crystals, on the lights made the main hall feel like a place.

Leon took a step. It made the floor creak beneath his boots. This made him think about things. The light, in the room. Moved like the water in a lake when you throw a stone into it. The hall was a fancy place but it did not feel cold or empty. It felt warm and elegant like someone had put a lot of thought into making it comfortable. The comfort was not something you felt it was also something you saw in the stone walls and floors. Leon thought the hall was a nice place. The stone had been carved to make it feel cozy.

This place felt like a place now. The royal place had a feeling to it. It was like being, in a place.

A few maids were in a hurry as they went through the hall. Their footsteps were very quiet on the floor. They were fixing the lanterns. Making sure the curtains were straight. They were also carrying a lot of sheets and towels. Leon stopped walking without realizing it. He was watching the maids move around. They were very good at their jobs. The Royal Mansion, which used to be a home for a noble family was now really becoming Leons royal mansion. It was a feeling, for Leon. He felt it in his chest. The Royal Mansion was really going to be his home.

And the changes were everywhere.

The inside of the place had been totally changed. The colors were now really deep and rich. The patterns were sharper. They looked like they were supposed to be that way. The pillars were painted again. They looked shiny and new. The old carpets were. New ones were put in their place. These new carpets were really thick. They made the room feel quiet. Even the air, in the room felt different. It felt like something important was happening. The interior of the place used to be just fancy. Now it felt strong and powerful. The interior felt like it was alive. It was telling you something. The interior of the place was not a room anymore it was something more.

Alina’s influence—absolutely.

As he walked down the hall the maids who were standing along the way stopped what they were doing. Bowed at the same time. You could hear a swishing sound as their clothes moved their heads went down and their eyes looked away. The maids kept their eyes lowered.

The woman said "welcome back" to the man, in a quiet voice. She was speaking softly that you could hardly hear her.

Leon gave a nod back. He looked at the maids who were standing together. That is when he noticed something. Their shoulders were a bit stiff their hands were gripping the baskets hard and their faces were getting red. Some of them looked down quickly trying to hide that they were blushing. The maids were trying to cover up how they were feeling. Leon could still see it. He saw that more than one of the maids had a flush on their face that they could not hide. The maids were not able to conceal their emotions. Leon noticed the change, in them.

I am sure they did that. They definitely did what I thought they would do. The people, in question they did it.

The man had a charm that was always there. It was not something that he turned on and off. The charm just. It came out of him all the time whether he liked it or not. He had an peaceful way about him. He moved with a confidence, like a wild animal that is waiting to pounce but he was always, in control. His golden eyes seemed to see through people and they felt like they were being touched, even when they were not. People always noticed this about the man. The mans charm and his golden eyes always made people feel something.

One maid looked down fast she almost tripped over her own feet. Another maid pressed her lips together. Then turned away her face turning red as she pretended to be really interested in the floor. A third maid, who was maybe braver or just not as scared looked him in the eye. Kept looking for a little bit longer than she should have. It was not long enough to be impolite. It was long enough to be a little crazy. The third maid was being reckless, with the way she was looking at him. The maid was looking at him in a way that was not very proper.

Leon caught every one of the people. He got all of them every one. Leon made sure that none of them got away he caught every one of them.

The corner of his mouth started to move up a smile was about to show up before he stopped it.

The man said it was easy. He spoke in a voice but you could tell he was joking around. He told them not to worry he was not going to hurt anyone. He said do not look so scared.

A few people laughed a little it was a sound at first. Then it started to sound more real as they relaxed. Some of them looked up again they were still a bit shy. Their faces were still red but they were not stuck in one place anymore. The laughter, from these people was a sound the people were laughing and it was getting easier for them to do so.

He said, "Do not look so stiff. I like to see faces, not scared ones."

People let out a sigh of relief. It felt like a gentle wind blowing down the hallway. Everyone stood up a little straighter. They relaxed their fingers. Did not hold the trays and baskets so tightly. The manor seemed to be feeling better because the air, inside it felt warmer like the manor was breathing again. The manor was breathing again. That was a really good thing.

One of the maids stepped forward her cheeks were getting a red as she tried to be brave. "Sire may the maids bring some food and drinks to the hall?"

Leon looked at her for a moment. He did not seem mean about it. He kept looking at her long enough to make the weird feeling in the room go away. Leons eyes were still, on her. This made things feel a little better.

"Not tonight " he said gently. Then he stopped for a moment. "Actually I was thinking could you bring my dinner to my room instead? I will eat my dinner, inside my room."

"Yes, sire."

She bowed again this time she did it slower. Her movements were more controlled now.. You could still see a little shake of nervous energy when she turned away.

Leon moved on going deeper into the manor. His boots did not make noise on the shiny stone floor. The sound of his boots was gone in a second. The big empty halls were very quiet. It was like the whole world was not there anymore. All Leon could hear was the light from the torches and the quiet noise of the estate, in the distance. Leon kept walking. The manor was very still. The torches made a sound and the estate was quiet too.

Soon the man got to the hallway. The man walked into the corridor.

The road went on and on before Leon like a shiny golden path through the middle of the manor. It was really long and really wide. It was filled with a warm yellow light. At the end of the road Leon saw two huge doors with two men, in armor standing on either side of them. When Leon came into sight these two men stood up straight like they were trying to show off how well they could stand at attention. The moment Leon appeared both of the men straightened up their backs getting really straight really fast because they were used to doing this.

The doors themselves were something else entirely.
