Chapter 224: Jiang Ning, Someone’s Looking for You
Chapter 224: Jiang Ning, Someone’s Looking for You
The movement was light, but the alarm didn’t go off.
Jiang Ning perked up her ears; the footsteps sounded quite familiar.
Huo Yishen came back with the dog. Their covered in dust and sweat.
“How did it go?” Jiang Ning handed him water to bathe. “Did you manage to save anyone?”
“Yeah, we saved over ten people,” Huo Yishen took off his dusty clothes and revealed his sturdy chest. “He Tianming’s plan was good.
He forced us to rest every hour. Coke was great, it sensed the presence of living beings, so we only conducted rescues, when necessary, otherwise, it would waste a lot of time and energy.”
Since he entered, Jiang Ning had already examined the dog; it seemed quite energetic, and its protective gear was intact. No injuries on its paws either.
Huo Yishen chuckled, “Coke is smart; it’s only responsible for searching. Any extra movement is considered a loss for it.”
Jiang Ning tapped him, “Are you trying to say, a dog takes after its owner?”
“No, I think it’s fine the way it is.”
“I’ve noticed you’re getting better at talking,” Jiang Ning scolded him with a glance. “Our Coke is so capable, what about He Tianming’s Teddy?”
Don’t mention it; what can Teddy do? Just follow Coke around.
Without special training, a pet dog can’t handle rescue work.
He Tianming had good intentions, but Teddy couldn’t keep up; he just plays around.
While Huo Yishen was bathing, Jiang Ning checked his backpack; all the water was gone, but the first aid supplies were untouched.
It seemed he had a plan in mind.
Jiang Ning couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
After the bath, Huo Yishen soaked his clothes in disinfectant before washing them.
Jiang Ning brought chicken soup to comfort the two heroes, along with corn and steamed buns for breakfast.
After breakfast, Jiang Ning thought Huo Yishen would rest, so she was about to give him the room.
But he turned and locked the door, then scooped her up…
No, wasn’t he busy all night?
As a result, they played poker for several rounds, and this time, he really fell asleep.
Jiang Ning was tired but felt unusually refreshed and relaxed.
The apocalypse was too oppressive; physical comfort could ease the tension of the mind.
After a nap, Jiang Ning woke up around noon, sitting on the couch, nibbling on corn, and watching TV.
She felt exhausted and didn’t even want to move.
Huo Yishen got up in the late afternoon, had dinner with Jiang Ning and Doudou, then left on time with the dog.
The next morning when he returned, his fingers were injured by stones, but it wasn’t serious, and he promptly disinfected and bandaged them.
Jiang Ning was a little worried, “Take some anti-inflammatory and antibiotics.”
She checked the dog thoroughly; there were no external injuries, but the weather was hot, and even with the temperature-regulating clothes, it couldn’t endure.
Hurry, use the air conditioner to keep it alive, and give it more mung bean soup.
The search and rescue lasted for three days before He Tianming decided to stop the project.
It was not that he did not want to continue saving people, but it was very dangerous for a normal person to be deprived of water for three days. Moreover, a strong earthquake occurred in extremely hot weather. People seemed to be thrown into a furnace. Not only was there a high temperature and lack of water, but they were also suffocated. What was the chance of survival?
The number of people rescued on the second day was half of the first day, and on the third day… not a single one.
With high temperatures and dehydration, the bodies of the deceased decayed rapidly. He Tianming couldn’t joke with the lives of the members anymore, so he decisively called it off.
Furthermore, this is already the fourth day since the earthquake occurred, and they really did their best.
“I’ve already reported the disaster relief to the neighborhood committee. Everyone has worked hard. Go back and rest for two days.”
He Tianming highly praised the members of the disaster relief team, but also reminded them, “This earthquake is very severe, with only one in ten buildings left standing. Many survivors are homeless, and their supplies are buried under the rubble.
People need food and water to survive, but the authorities cannot properly arrange for so many victims in a short time. We must be cautious to prevent harm and guard against unrest outside. It’s probably going to be chaotic out there, so it’s best not to go out, especially not alone.”
After the disaster relief, He Tianming didn’t rest for a moment and immediately led people to repair the well.
If they didn’t fix the water source soon, not only would the homeless victims outside suffer, but even those in the Aoyuan would die.
After breakfast, Jiang Ning sat on the couch while reading a psychology book. Suddenly, a loudspeaker downstairs announced, “Jiang Ning from Building 5, someone’s looking for you at the entrance.”
Jiang Ning was dumbfounded. It was the apocalypse; who would come looking for her?
She stood on the balcony and shouted down, “Who’s looking for me?”
“I don’t know, several men!” came the reply.
Hmm, something about this doesn’t sound right. What could they want from her?
Is it a relative or someone seeking revenge?
“Who would come looking for you at this time?” Huo Yishen was equally puzzled. “I’ll accompany you.”
“No need, you should get some rest.”
Just a few men, can’t she handle them?
Jiang Ning grabbed an umbrella and braved the scorching sun to go out.
It would be best if they had a valid reason for finding her; otherwise, she’d twist their heads off.
The uncle who called her was still waiting downstairs. “Little Jiang, I can tell they’re up to no good. They were riding on two motorbikes, one of them was even smoking. They don’t look like good people; you should be careful.”
Up to no good? She didn’t have friends like that, let alone enemies.
Could it be that the tattooed thugs from the Qinggang Base or the Leilong Base hadn’t died out and were looking for trouble?
No problem, her bullets were already loaded.
That being said, Jiang Ning remained cautious. When she reached the entrance, instead of showing herself right away, she hid in the shadows and looked towards the door, taking advantage of the building’s structure.
When she saw who it was, her mouth twitched involuntarily.
How did Sharp mouthed monkey find her?
And why was there blood on Qin Chuan’s white headscarf, yet he looked intoxicated while smoking? What was going on?
Two motorbikes, but each rider had a distinct appearance. No wonder the uncle said they didn’t look like good people.
Jiang Ning walked out, “Are you looking for me?”
Sharp mouthed monkey’s eyes lit up when he saw her. “Sister, as long as you’re okay, we’re all relieved.”
Smooth talkers, they were like ghosts trying to deceive people. Jiang Ning found it suspicious. “How did you find me?”
“Old Luo,” Sharp mouthed monkey pointed to the bald guy beside him. “Yesterday, the rescue team from Aoyuan went to Old Luo’s building, and he immediately recognized Brother Huo.”
Jiang Ning glanced over, feeling a bit familiar with Old Luo; they probably crossed paths when she used to buy water.
Seeing her gaze shift to the motorbikes, Sharp mouthed monkey was worried that the boss would lose face, so he quickly added, “The earthquake destroyed the roads. Motorbikes with four wheels are not as practical as those with two.”
Jiang Ning looked at Qin Chuan. “Brother Qin, what urgent matter brings you here?”
