Chapter 2038 Spirit Forming And Enhancement Work
Chapter 2038 Spirit Forming And Enhancement Work
Remi brought out the Haint Flowers, and the trio got right to work on three different versions of the pill.
An hour later, Remi was holding a small white ball, and looking at it with distaste.
{Soul Stealing Pill} Rare Grade. Scatters the nascent Immortal Spirit of an early Spirit Stage Immortal.
"{ Nope, my version didn't work. It turned into a toxin. }"
Andrea shrugged. "Those are useful too. Make sure that you get good notes on the process and ingredients, so that we can reproduce it for later. There are many who would pay very well for a pill that would set their enemies back by years of practice.
Sure, it might not sell for much, but it should at least make back its ingredient cost."
She was an assassin and a Spy Master, as well as a Master Alchemist, specializing in Pills. If anyone in the world knew the possibilities of a toxic medicine, it was her. It might not be the sort of thing that was sold out in the open, or even acknowledged, but every single Clan and Guild, including the Darklight Host, had tried to sabotage a rival Clan's young prodigy without leaving traces that would lead back to them.
Killing was inelegant, and encouraged more killing of prodigies. But a toxic pill mixed into medicine, or given as the real thing in a world where the System didn't display the names, would look like a mistake in the formation process.
It wasn't permanent, just a setback.
But a setback to a prodigy, hailed as a genius for their growth speed? That was as good as a death sentence for their reputation. Even if they were still the fastest of their group, the failure would haunt them.
Remi's single minded pursuit of a target meant that the pill was just a failure in her mind, to be revisited later, if she happened to need that exact effect.
So, Andrea took it and stored it with the rest of her spare pills while Remi wrote the detailed process out, so that they wouldn't try it again.
As she did that, Socrate finished his pill and shook his head.
"Right effect, too weak to count as an Immortal Pill. Scrap," he sighed.
"Well, next round. We got one improper effect and two failures this time, but with some tweaks, we will get there," Andrea insisted.
She already counted the day as a win, as she got a new poison out of it. But they were so close to managing to replicate one of the most useful resources for beginners at a cost that was ten percent of what the original needed.
That would turn it from a precious boon for the most talented, to something that any Spirit Immortal could afford with a year or two of hard work.
Still not cheap, but many parents could afford to buy one for their children.
This time, Remi didn't try to condense it into a pill, as the original recipe called for. That was the purest and most efficient way to do it, as potions often contained large amounts of impurities. However, she thought that some of those impurities might actually help her balance the effect if she left them in.
That meant a potion, not a pill, but it was the effect that mattered, not the form.
Another round of tests was completed two hours later, and Remi held up her new potion with a curious gaze.
{Spirit Enhancement Potion} Rare Grade. Improves Immortal Spirit Strength. Usable only once.
"{I don't know if that is right. It sounds like a good thing, but we need a volunteer to test it.}"
Socrate patted the petite Naga on the back. "It's fine, we will test them all soon. The System says that it's a good thing, we just need to see how good it is. If it can only be used once, that usually means that the effect is stronger than usual for its rank.
Mine is another Common Grade diminished effect of the {Spirit Forming Pill}, so I'm on the right track, but not quite there."
Then Andrea held up a gleaming white pill that looked like the most flawless of pearls, except that the striations were slightly transparent, like the magic of a Haint.
"I've got it. One Epic Grade {Spirit Forming Pill}, made with our substitute ingredients. The trick was to concentrate the Haint Flower in higher dosages, so that the water element balanced the heat from the fire element ingredients.
However, there is no chance for a lower grade version of this. It's Epic or nothing.
So, it's not going to do much in our search for a discount substitute, even if it is much cheaper than the original. I would say that this would sell for a third the price, by standard market value. However, it's much easier to make, and I've got twenty of them from that last batch of production."
"{Twenty? That's wonderful.}" Remi cheered, seeing the potential for an entire research round.
Her own potion would make close to twenty doses as well, but that was the nature of potion making. You needed to use some ingredients whole and undamaged, so there was a minimum quantity that could be made in one batch.
Normally, the Alchemist would keep a portion of the successful potions for themselves, and return the rest to the one who had commissioned them.
A way to make money without charging the one who brought them the rare ingredients.
If the potion batch made twenty doses, even if the alchemist kept half, the one who brought the ingredients would celebrate having ten doses of the rare potion that they had worked so hard to obtain.
Because most of the time, they only needed one dose, and couldn't use it more than once.
Only in a rare few cases did they need the entire contents of the cauldron to make the potion, and those ones were never made for free, unless it was by an apprentice who needed the practice.
Andrea smiled at the scheming Naga. "Why don't we go see if we can find some volunteers who are struggling to finish forming their Immortal Spirit? I believe that some of them just entered the training grounds.
It's a shame that the Elves already formed theirs, or they would have been perfect for this test."
Socrate cleared his throat. "That doesn't mean they can't test Remi's potion. It strengthens the Immortal Spirit, but doesn't specify that it must be unformed."
