Chapter 2044 Train The Girls
Chapter 2044 Train The Girls
While Remi and the others were grilled about the logistics of the Alchemy Hall, the girls from Cara's class were deep in the training ground, being led through mock combat by a Jackalope who was taking far too much pleasure in their suffering.
"Come on now, girls. You can do it. Just keep casting. Pushing through exhaustion builds character as fast as it builds your mana pool. Just look at the Elves over there on the shoreline. See how fast they've grown?
Oh, you didn't know them before, did you?
Never mind.
But look how hard they're training. They've learned the value of the effort, and they don't even need to be pushed to do their best.
I know that the teachers like to let you slack off in class, but we can't do that here.
If you want, I can call a more strict and scary teacher to help motivate you. I know that being yelled at by a bunny isn't all that motivational."
Anilla shook her head. "No, it's motivating enough. Being called lazy by a bunny might be the most painful insult I've ever received. Just tell us what to do, and we will do it. I know that we can keep up. If even a mortal can become as powerful as you, I can definitely do it as well."
The Jackalope laughed. "Even a mortal"? No mortal bunny reached immortality on their own. It was all a result of the Darklight Host and its training methods.
The girls threw themselves into the training, following the footwork and the blade forms the Jackalope was teaching them until late in the evening, when dinner was brought over to them by one of the constructs that worked the training area.
"Eat now, and then we will do night training."
The girls sighed, unused to working so many hours a day. But the Elves were also eating and talking about their evening training in the distance, and the girls of the New Home were not about to let a bunch of Blue Elves show them up.
The Elves always acted so superior, knowing that they had the upper hand in most trade negotiations.
They had never thought that there would be a whole group of them here in the Darklight Host's training areas, and now that they had seen them, and that monster of a Pirate King training them, they were beginning to understand that the confidence the Elves showed was not unfounded.
Even their kids were such great fighters already, and going by the colour of their names in the name plates, they were not warriors.
They were shamans and mages, the ones who would keep the ships moving between ports.
Not deck hands who would guard the ship.
"Why do they need to know how to fight so well? Do the Blue Elves have that many enemies?" One of the girls asked.
The Jackalope shook her head. "No, it's mandatory. You see, they all want to become Captains in the future. But by their tradition, a Captain must be able to do everything that they ask their crew to do, unless it's absolutely class specific.
So, they have to fight as well as the warriors, navigate as well as the navigator, barter better than anyone else on the ship, keep the books, and know every bit of how to trim a sail while casting the spells to move the ship across the open ocean."
The girls looked impressed at the speech. They hadn't realized that there was so much to a Captain, they had assumed it was like an Elder, and they just had experience and money.
Not all the Elders of the New Home had a specialty role. Many of them existed simply as defenders of the Clan, or to train new members in their particular style.
The title of Elder was honorary.
Once they had eaten and rested a bit more, the Bloodstrike Jackalope called over an assistant.
A lithe obsession demon in black leather armour jogged to them with a smile.
"Lala, good to see you training with someone new. What are we up to today?"
"We're going to teach them group combat against a rogue type opponent. Would you like to do the honours? I will sit it out and give instructions, and then we can train together after the kids are asleep."
The construct nodded happily.
"Alright, ladies, I will let you consult your teacher for a moment, and then we will get started."
Lala nodded happily.
"You might think that I'm being lazy, but this is important training. Sometimes, an enemy will get past your tank. Especially when you're fighting other Immortals for resources.
So, you all need to know how to defend yourselves as the back line of the group. Shade, we will have you start over by me, as if you were at the front, where you will usually be fighting. You can go to rescue them if you can break away from me.
Don't worry, I'll use a training sword, so there won't be any wounds to heal.
Do you have a strategy? Or do you need me to give you a base to work from?"
The girls grimaced at the evolved bunny, whose antlers looked vaguely menacing in the twilight.
"We have a strategy, they teach it in combat classes at school. We're not totally helpless, you know."
That made Shade giggle. The Divine Moor Cat counted every single one of them as completely helpless, including his pet Elf. She was adorable, and cuddly, but definitely not someone that would be counted as capable of defending herself.
Anilla saw that the cat was making fun of her again, and straightened her back.
"I will show you. I might specialize in the bow, but it's not the only weapon that I know how to use. We will use the Academy standard defensive formation to start, and then we will adjust to the situation.
How hard can it be to fight one demon?"
Lala smiled back at her, and the girls shuddered a little. The bunny was definitely mocking them.
But what they didn't know was that the obsession demon that had been made for the training session was a copy of Dana's [Epic Guard], and not only was she even more agile than Lala, she could also fly and [Shadow Step].
If she really got serious, their defensive formation would last all of two seconds.
