The First Legendary Beast Master

Chapter 2063 Not Outsourced

Chapter 2063 Not Outsourced

The city only slowly calmed after the alarm, with many rumours spreading about what had caused it. Most of them were vaguely accurate, someone had started a public fight that had drawn security, but who exactly it was hadn't been determined.

And that left the options wide open.

There were so many Clans that couldn't stand each other that it could have been hundreds of different groups, targeting one another.

But the one thing that was clear was that it hadn't been targeting the Darklight Host.

However, nobody was brave enough to outright ask the few Guild members that they saw, and most of them didn't know the full answer either.

Only that there had been an incident, and it didn't involve the Guild.

The interrogations weren't public information, even for the Guild members. Not that it was something that Karl was actively hiding, but because it wasn't the sort of thing that everyone needed the exact details to.

Once they had things sorted out, he would send a Guild Message.

But first, he had to go talk to the Trade Elder of the Yizimon Clan. The man should likely know that he was being targeted by a neighbouring Clan, and that the first round of assassins had been caught.

Karl found the Trade Elder exactly where the assassins had expected him to be, sitting on the end of the pier, fishing.

"Ah, Guild Leader, welcome. Pull up a chair, the fish are lively today."

Karl used [Earth Manipulation] to make himself a lightweight metal chair, and sat down next to the Trade Elder.

"I should start with the important parts. That big disturbance earlier was because your counterpart from Aksos hired goons to jump you on your way to the docks today. They were captured because Rue thought that the nosy Elders spying on her and the Captain were a threat.

Security just happened to find the others nearby, and they admitted the situation once we captured them."

The Elder sighed. "You know, we've been going back and forth about trade routes and partnerships for a couple hundred years now. Perhaps it's time that I put the Trade Elder in his place.

He's not even a Peak Immortal.

That's why he hired someone, I assume. If we actually got in a fight directly, he'd get folded like laundry. So, he had to hire someone to come after me on his behalf. I do hope that it wasn't too much of an issue?"

Karl shook his head. "They were intercepted by the Supreme Ranked Wrath Demon city security guards."

That was all the explanation that the situation needed. No group of ambushers was going to fare well against the city guards of Blackwoods Village, and if they did, then whoever they were sent for was likely already doomed, unless they were a member of the Guild.

"Do you want me to take care of it?" Karl asked as the older Immortal sat and fished silently.

"No, I'll deal with it. I'm just waiting for a message back from a few merchant groups that we work with. Hitting him in the pocketbook before I hit him in the face will be much more satisfying."

"That is understandable. If you need anything, let me know. Lady Rae is going to the dungeon with Dana today, and they'll do the clearance with your team. If there's anything that you need while they're in Yizimon, I'm certain that is the pair to handle such annoyances for you."

Rae cheered in his mind as Karl said those words. She really did hope that someone was going to hire her to take out an obnoxious Clan Elder.

That plus a dungeon with extra spiders?

What a great day it would be.

They were already on their way to the dungeon from the Yizimon portal area, where they had met with the day's mining team. Rae could tell that they were thinking that there was a chance they were going to get ahead on the mining this time, since it was just Rae and Dana, but there was little chance of that.

She was fully prepared, and Opal had made her an [Illusionary Domain] trinket that she could activate to bring a full army of miners to the dungeon.

Even without the Karl or the rest of the team, they could still do well enough just by letting a hundred illusionary Dwarves loose in the dungeon. That should be all that it took to get their share of the loot, and be back in time for dinner.

The Elder shook his head. "Let them do their dungeon run, no need to interfere when it's the responsibility of my Clan to deal with these issues.

No matter how enthusiastic Lady Rae is about the job, it wouldn't be right to outsource it."

"Alright, I understand. Enjoy your fishing. I will go visit Lady Rue and the Elves, to see if there is anything that we can do for them on their next trip. Sometimes they bring us truly interesting stuff."

That made the Yizimon Clan Trade Elder smile. "Indeed they do. It's a shame that there aren't any working the great lake, but from what I've seen along the coast, the Clans that do business with the Blue Elves always seem to have the rare resources that others are looking for."

Karl smiled. "Especially water element. But just the fact that they move all around the coast of the continent is enough that they've brought us things that I wouldn't have expected to find so easily.

I think that they're secretly testing me, to see how low that they can get the number of items they trade for a whole ship full of gear."

The Elder winked at him. "Just wait, they'll get it down to just one item eventually. They're sly like that."

That they were. And, they had ways to get their hands on nearly anything, so if they happened to find a Legendary item that they didn't want to keep, there was a good chance that they could actually do it.
