Chapter 1100: The Act Of Desperation.
Chapter 1100: The Act Of Desperation.
His tone was serious as he said, "So if you’re only saying you agree to fool me, get information about what I plan to bid on, and use that information to sabotage me, let’s not waste each other’s time."
"Damn it. Does everyone think I’m a liar now?" she said in frustration. "I am not a liar. In fact, I am always telling the truth."
"And I’m trustworthy, so your secrets are safe with me. You can tell me anything without worrying about me blabbing."
She was being convincing, but Tepid Scholar didn’t believe her. His face remained impassive as he asked, "Are you going to swear or not?"
She could only sigh and say, "Fine. You will have your oath."
"But I’ll say this. It is a depraved world we’ve fallen into now that no one can take another at their word. It is truly a depraved world."
After making one last-ditch effort to fool Tepid Scholar and failing, she swore the oath.
She wasn’t surprised that she failed to fool him. In fact, she would have been surprised if she had succeeded in convincing him that they didn’t need to swear oaths to make their partnership secure.
She knew that her attempts would fail. But she made them anyway. She had to lie because it was a compulsive instinct of hers to do so. It was also fun for her to lie, and the thrill of successfully fooling people always left her wanting more.
So even though she failed, she enjoyed the process of trying to fool him and didn’t regret it one bit. If there was anything she regretted recently, it was ever thinking that she would let Black Chain and the other avatars kill each other before she sent down three avatars to reap the final benefit.
When she remembered this massive blunder of hers, she ground her teeth in anger, thinking, ’That wolf kid had us. He had me through and through. My whole plan to take his avatar and use it to force him to give me his Divine Spark was a complete bust.’
’Is his Divine Spark why he can suppress our Authority like that? If it is, then I am lucky that I didn’t send my second avatar down there.’
Meanwhile, the auction was still going on. Every Dao Lord sent in their bid for the avatar of the Death Pathway except for Black Chain and Heavenly Eye.
The Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect didn’t even bother to bid for his avatar, which surprised Loki. This got him thinking about why Black Chain did this.
’Is he giving up because he knows he can’t win, or is there a scheme here that I can’t see? I bet it is the latter, and there is a scheme here.’
Tepid Scholar won the avatar with a bid of 15,000 years of divine crystals and 1,500 units of celestial gold. This outcome wasn’t surprising to Loki because Tepid Scholar had indeed won the avatar of death in his previous life.
What surprised him was that the price that Tepid Scholar was paying this time for the avatar was three times as much divine crystal as the amount Tepid Scholar paid before. This put a smile on his face.
’I knew that he was rich. I didn’t know that he was this rich,’ he thought with a shake of his head.
’It looks like he couldn’t afford to lose the bid to someone combining their wealth to outbid him, so he went all out. This is how to run an auction.’
’The second-best bid for the avatar of the Death Pathway was 5,000 years of divine crystals and 500 units of celestial gold from Sword Maestro. Clearly, Sword Maestro was fighting with someone who was way out of his league financially.’
After the bidding time was over and he went over all of the bids, he said, "Tepid Scholar has won. Please, let us proceed with the next step."
The next step was Tepid Scholar sending down the divine crystals and celestial gold. Then Tepid Scholar swore not to attack him for 10 years.
When he was satisfied with this step, he grabbed the black monkey and flew into the sky. He flew to the rift where the divine crystals and divine gold just fell out. Then he tossed the avatar into the rift.
The avatar tried to escape after Loki deactivated the Seal Ability, but Tepid Scholar grabbed the avatar with his spiritual force and pulled it into the third heaven.
As the Dao Lord of the Myriad Phenomenon reeled in his catch, he said, "You know what? I thought it was lazy of you not to kill the avatar yourself and then sell me the Supreme Metac. I felt that you were cheating me by making me kill the avatar. But I’ve changed my mind."
"I still think you’re being lazy. But seeing Black Chain resist within my grasp is highly gratifying. So I’ve decided that the opportunity to pummel Black Chain to death, even if it is an avatar of his, is a premium service that I am willing to pay for."
Then he grinned as he looked at the avatar’s face and said, "I’ll enjoy this."
"Screw you," the avatar shot back.
The black monkey grabbed the edges of the rift and continued to resist, but it stood no chance against the might of a Dao Lord. It was yanked forcefully into the third heaven where a beating immediately ensued.
Some distance away in the sky, the rift in the sky belonging to Black Chain closed suddenly. Loki thought that Black Chain was doing this out of anger, but the other Dao Lords had other thoughts.
"Ooooh! How exciting," Heavenly Eye said in anticipation. "Black Chain is going over to fight Tepid Scholar."
But Martial Will yawned and said with disinterest, "He is only wasting his time. That avatar of his will be dead before he can find Tepid Scholar."
