Chapter 1193: Hard Working Black Chain.
Chapter 1193: Hard Working Black Chain.
Black Chain left his explanation at that, but that short line was able to express just how desperate he was. The fact that he didn’t feel shame for saying something like that showed to the other Dao Lords just low the powerful and proud Black Chain that they once knew had fallen.
Black Chain was saying that since he had reached rock bottom, he was willing to do anything. But Loki wasn’t so desperate.
Not only did Loki have some self-respect and didn’t want to start a shouting contest with Black Chain, but he also knew that shouting his version of the truth wouldn’t work.
’Anyone, including me, can say anything they want. It doesn’t mean it is the truth,’ he thought to himself solemnly.
’It will be even more difficult to convince the mortals that I am speaking the truth now that the seed of doubt has been planted. And with Black Chain intent on shouting day and night, slandering me, trying to speak my way out of this won’t work.’
’What I should do is find a way to make the truth irrefutable and unchangeable by anyone. It is either that or I make the truth irrelevant completely.’
While he was thinking and looking for a solution, Black Chain was still spouting lies like a fountain built solely for defamation. All of the noise he was making finally began to draw attention from everyone in the Sea of Worlds.
The Nature God had been paying close attention to the matter of the Life Value Meter, so he was among the first to notice Black Chain shouting at the top of his lungs.
"Well done, Black Chain. I knew I could count on you," the giant moose said in a message to Black Chain.
"You have done well exposing Ragnarok for his crime. I knew he was cheating his disciples, and I expected him to do something rash. But I thought he would do something rash to me."
"I didn’t consider that he would try to destroy the Life Value Meters. That was my fault. I should have prepared contingency plans for every scenario."
"But you, my friend, have done really well preventing Ragnarok from making his crime disappear. I’m really impressed," the Nature God said with sincerity.
At least one of them was sincere. Black Chain had nothing but disdain for this Gemini youngling and partner in crime.
’You fool,’ Black Chain thought in anger. ’You know nothing and planned for nothing. I am the brains here while you’re not even qualified to be the brawn. I can kill you with a pinch of my fingers, like pressing an ant to death.’
’I am both the brain and the brawn. Yet, I have to be beholden to you. What an atrocity,’ he thought in anger.
But he said, "I am only doing my best."
The giant moose, oblivious to the disdain, said with pride, "Our performance really is the best because you have gone beyond what I expected of you. That deserves a reward."
When Black Chain heard that he would be rewarded for his performance like some dog, his eye twitched in anger. But when he remembered how low he had fallen, he exhaled and let his anger leave his body.
’At least you recognize my hard work,’ he thought with a sigh. ’That’s good, I guess.’
Objectively, he had done more than what was asked of him. He had been given the Life Value Meters and told to spread them across as many super worlds as he could. The rest were his ideas.
The Nature God didn’t plan for an outcome where the Olympic Sect wasn’t lying and cheating their disciples. He made sure that, regardless of reality, the Life Value Meters would show a 10% to 50% decrease in actual lifespan and Entropy.
He tampered with the Life Value Meters to ensure that every sect would be revealed as cheaters and prevented them from resetting by installing his Divine Spirit, along with a curse, into them.
The curse was engineered in such a way that it would only activate for Ragnarok. He did this by ensuring his Divine Spirit would recognize Ragnarok’s Divine Spirit and activate only when it sensed it.
So if Ragnarok had used someone else to test and repair the Life Value Meters, nothing would have happened. The Divine Spirit within the Life Value Meters would have dissipated along with the curse.
Because of his arrangement, the Life Value Meters would have looked harmless until Ragnarok touched one of them. He only needed Ragnarok to touch one of the 84 meters for his plan to work.
He also planned it so that once one of the traps found the target and detonated, the other traps would stop pretending and immediately detonate, targeting Ragnarok. As long as Ragnarok was nearby, he would be screwed.
Then, when enough curses piled onto Ragnarok, a pillar of curses would appear above his head, exposing his location to everyone in the world.
This was all aside from his plan to have the Will of the Blessed Heaven World kill Ragnarok. In fact, according to his initial plan, he wasn’t supposed to need the curse to work at all. Ragnarok was supposed to die to the strongest being in the lower realm, and that would have been the end.
Unfortunately, Ragnarok thwarted all of his plans, making him look foolish. But he was also shameless and in dire need of a reward to ensure all his hard work hadn’t gone to waste.
So when the Nature God said, "Tell me, what reward do you want?"
He didn’t hesitate to say, "I want a Cosmic Supreme Metac."
"I hope you’re joking," the giant moose said, chuckling with mirth.
But Black Chain insisted, saying, "Unfortunately, I am serious. I need a Cosmic Supreme Metac."
"Preferably the Death Supreme Metac so that I can use it to recover my strength quickly. If I can recover my strength quickly, I will be able to serve you better."
