Chapter 555: Sudden Chaos
Chapter 555: Sudden Chaos
"Am I interrupting your time together?"
Evalyn startled and turned around, only to see a woman in a fox mask with black hair standing right beside her.
It was none other than Kaede, the princess of the Eastern Empire of Izanagi.
"Y-Your—"
Before she could finish, Nolan quickly stood and pinched her lips shut.
Evalyn froze again, looking at Nolan in confusion.
Nolan ignored her reaction. After letting go, he fixed his deep gaze on Kaede.
"Can we help you?" he asked indifferently, showing no trace of respect.
A maid standing beside Kaede bristled at Nolan’s attitude and was about to scold him, but Kaede stopped her at once.
"Your Highness, he—"
"Shh... don’t mention my identity in front of the people here. Have you forgotten the rules?"
Those words immediately silenced the maid. She bit her lower lip and lowered her head in embarrassment.
Kaede then turned back to Nolan, a smile hidden behind her mask.
"I apologize for interrupting your dinner. Don’t worry—I didn’t come here to cause trouble. On the contrary, I only wanted to greet you and ask something. Is that all right?"
Evalyn didn’t dare to answer. She simply looked at Nolan, silently urging him to respond.
Nolan nodded slightly. "Of course. But please be quick—I’d like to finish my dinner and return to my room."
His blunt manner didn’t anger Kaede in the slightest. She continued smiling as she asked, "Are you from the eastern continent? If so, may I know where you’re from?"
Her eyes lingered on Nolan’s jet-black hair and purple eyes, as though both had captured her interest.
Nolan remained calm, but deep down, he couldn’t help admiring this woman.
To avoid being recognized by those familiar with his appearance, he had disguised himself.
His black hair had been dyed white, and his purple eyes altered to red. In his current state, he resembled his father far more closely.
Yet Kaede had seen through his disguise. Frankly, it was astonishing.
’This princess is no ordinary person,’ he muttered in quiet awe.
Behind Kaede, the two maids and the soldiers were visibly shocked by her words. They exchanged confused glances.
In their eyes, Nolan clearly had white hair and red eyes. Yet the princess had described them as black and purple.
Despite their doubts, none of them dared to speak, choosing instead to keep their confusion to themselves.
Nolan smiled and replied, "You’re correct. I’m from the eastern continent—more precisely, the Eastern Empire of Izanagi. It’s impressive that you could tell. How did you know?"
His expression showed both confusion and amazement.
Kaede chuckled softly. "I can see through your disguise. I’m sorry—I didn’t mean to expose you. Meeting someone from the same place as me is truly exciting. Well, I won’t disturb you two any longer. Please enjoy your dinner."
She gave a slight bow before turning and walking toward the buffet table at the center.
Nolan let out a soft sigh and sat back down. Evalyn glanced at him, guilt written all over her face.
"I’m sorry, Nolan. I didn’t mean to do that."
She had almost addressed Kaede as "Your Highness." If Nolan hadn’t stopped her in time, she would have slipped up.
Their dinner could have been ruined; worse, they might have been suspected as spies—or even enemies.
"It’s fine. I understand your reaction," Nolan said casually, waving his right hand.
Relief washed over Evalyn, and her smile returned. She and Nolan continued their meal.
However, after Kaede’s appearance, the gazes of the surrounding guests kept drifting toward them.
Even without looking directly, Nolan could feel the weight of their attention.
"Let’s finish quickly. Their stares make me uncomfortable," Nolan said coldly.
Evalyn nodded and quickened her pace. After finishing, they wiped their lips with napkins and stood up.
Walking side by side, they left the restaurant. Suddenly, two men in black robes and long hats passed them.
Nolan’s eyes widened in alarm. Without hesitation, he grabbed Evalyn and pulled her forward, startling her.
"What’s going on? Why did you pull me?" Evalyn asked in confusion.
Nolan didn’t answer. He kept dragging her along until they reached the restaurant exit.
"Nolan, what’s happening?" Evalyn frowned.
He pulled her behind the door and whispered, "There’s going to be a big show soon."
Peeking inside quietly, Nolan’s expression grew unusually serious.
Evalyn wanted to press him for answers, but seeing his face, she held back and waited in silence.
The two men in black robes and hats walked toward the buffet table in the center.
They took some food, then headed for the table where Kaede was dining.
As they passed the soldiers guarding her, one of the men suddenly hurled the food in his hand at the nearest soldier.
The soldier was knocked backward and crashed into Kaede’s table.
Dishes scattered across the floor, startling Kaede. She instinctively stood up and stepped back.
"What—"
Before she could finish, the man who had thrown the food reached into his pocket and flung a blue dagger at her.
The dagger glowed faintly blue as it sliced through the air.
Kaede froze as it shot toward her. Time seemed to slow, the world around her falling silent.
Suddenly, the maid beside her leapt from her seat, wrapped her arms around Kaede, and turned her back toward the attack.
Slash!
The dagger pierced her back. Her body collapsed to the floor, still holding Kaede tightly.
Kaede was stunned for a moment before finally coming to her senses.
When she saw the dagger embedded in her maid’s back, her face drained of color.
"Tamari! You... you..."
She tried to speak, but Tamari only gave her a weak smile.
"Run... Your Highness..."
"Damn you! How dare you attack Her Highness?! Die!"
The soldiers were the first to recover from the shock. They drew their katanas and charged at the two men.
The attackers showed no sign of panic, as if they had anticipated this outcome.
They exchanged brief glances, then nodded to each other.
"Die!" one of the soldiers shouted as he raised his katana and slashed at the man on the left.
The strike was blocked, but another slash followed immediately after.
In an instant, chaos engulfed the restaurant.
Guests panicked and rushed to flee, fear etched across their faces.
"Run! Don’t get caught in this!"
"Save yourselves!"
"Damn it! Why did this have to happen!?"
Desperate cries echoed as people shoved and pushed, trying to escape.
The waiters fled as well, leaving the restaurant in complete chaos.
"T-this... what is actually happening?" Evalyn covered her mouth, unable to believe the scene before her.
The restaurant, once calm and peaceful, had turned into utter chaos.
She remembered Nolan and turned to look at him—only to find his expression calm and indifferent.
"This man..."
