Chapter 556: Premeditated Murder
Chapter 556: Premeditated Murder
"Princess, let’s go!"
Another maid, Kamari, quickly grabbed Kaede’s hand and shouted.
Kaede snapped out of her shock and hurried to her feet.
Without a second thought, she turned and ran toward the exit with Kamari.
"Damn it! Do you think you can escape, Princess?! I won’t let you!"
One of the men in black robes shouted angrily. He was about to chase after them, but the soldiers immediately restrained him.
"Damn it..." the man growled. He pulled a dagger from his pocket and slashed at the soldier on his right.
The soldier easily dodged the attack. As the soldier was about to swing his katana, the man grinned and lowered his head.
The soldier froze for a split second. Before he could react, the man spun and kicked him hard in the face, sending him flying two meters away.
Another soldier quickly swung his katana at him.
But as if he had anticipated the move, the man rolled forward and dodged.
Then he got up and ran after Kaede, who had already escaped.
"Damn it!" the soldier shouted. He sheathed his katana and chased after him.
Nolan and Evalyn, who were hiding behind the door, watched everything in silence.
"How did you know this would happen?" Evalyn asked, her voice heavy.
At first, she didn’t understand what Nolan meant. But after seeing what happened, she was completely speechless.
The chaos in the restaurant unfolded so quickly that it felt like a dream.
If Nolan hadn’t pulled her away in time, they would have been caught up in it.
"Intuition," Nolan replied briefly, tapping the right side of his head.
Evalyn rolled her eyes and pressed, "Don’t lie to me. Do you think I’m a child? Now tell me—how did you know?"
Her expression slowly turned serious. Even she wouldn’t have guessed something like this would happen.
But Nolan, who was just an ordinary person, had sensed it. In Evalyn’s opinion, that was completely unreasonable.
Nolan understood how stubborn she was, so he dropped his playful demeanor.
"I realized it after we passed those two men," Nolan said casually, pointing at one of the men fighting the soldiers. "At that moment, I sensed danger from them. My instincts told me to run immediately. And sure enough, it happened exactly as I thought—those two men came to this restaurant to cause chaos."
"Really?" Evalyn asked, doubt in her voice, though a hint of belief flickered in her eyes.
"Of course. Do you think I can see everything because I have the power to see the future? Have you been reading too many novels?" Nolan rolled his eyes and chuckled softly.
"You..." Evalyn gritted her teeth in annoyance, her face turning red.
She had indeed considered that possibility. She hadn’t expected Nolan to figure it out so easily.
"Alright, enough small talk. Let’s go save Princess Kaede. Otherwise, we might get dragged into this disaster," Nolan said seriously.
Kaede was the princess of one of the strongest empires on the continent.
Although the prestige of the Eastern Empire of Izanagi had declined, it was far from weak in the eyes of the world.
Evalyn nodded. Without another word, the two of them ran after the man chasing Kaede.
...
"Hah... Hah... Hah..."
With Kamari at her side, Kaede ran as fast as she could down the long, wide corridor of the ship.
"Princess, faster! One of them must be chasing us!" Kamari said in panic.
Kaede clenched her teeth and forced herself to move faster.
Unfortunately, the sudden incident had shaken her badly.
Before she realized it, her energy was completely drained, and she collapsed onto the floor with a loud thud.
Kamari froze for a second, then quickly helped her up.
"Your Highness, are you all right?" Kamari asked anxiously.
"Hah... Hah... I... I’m fine..." Kaede replied between breaths.
Her face beneath the mask quickly turned pale.
Kamari glanced around in panic. The corridor was completely deserted—not a single crew member or attendant was in sight.
They had likely fled to save themselves. With no other choice, Kamari turned her back to Kaede and lifted her onto her back.
Kaede was not light, especially with her kimono covered in decorative ornaments.
As a result, she felt even heavier, making it harder for Kamari to carry her.
Even so, Kamari managed to steady herself and ran forward. She had no idea where to take Kaede.
The ship was enormous, and many of the rooms were locked by the staff.
With the corridor stretching straight ahead, the man chasing them would catch up soon.
Suddenly—
Whoosh!
A beam of light flashed in front of her, forcing Kamari to stop.
The light condensed into the figure of a man dressed in a black robe and a tall, pointed black hat.
"Found you," the man said, staring at her with a playful look. "I won’t let you escape again, especially the princess."
A thin smile, edged with cold intent, curved his lips.
Kamari was terrified. She took a step back, cold sweat soaking her back.
"D-Don’t come any closer! Otherwise, I’ll make you regret it!" she threatened, her voice trembling. "Princess Kaede is the beloved daughter of the Eastern Emperor. If you so much as touch her, you’ll be hunted across the entire continent!"
She hoped her threat would scare him off—or at least make him hesitate.
Unfortunately, she was too naive. Instead of fear, a soft chuckle escaped the man’s lips.
"Do you think I don’t know that? I know far more than you, little girl. Once I kill the princess, I’ll escape and change my identity. Even the Eastern Emperor won’t be able to find me. After all, his authority only reaches the Eastern Continent."
He understood how risky this job was. In truth, he hadn’t wanted to accept it. But the reward was too great to refuse.
Moreover, he had been guaranteed safety by the one who sent him on this mission—the First Prince himself.
With that assurance, his fear turned into greed for the promised reward.
"You..." Kamari stammered, not expecting him to stay calm despite her threat.
But when she thought about it, his words made sense. The Eastern Continent was vast; finding one person among millions would not be easy.
"Alright, enough talk. Now..." The man grinned as he drew a dagger from his waist.
In the next instant, he lunged at Kamari with incredible speed.
Kamari’s eyes widened. She immediately threw Kaede aside. The impact against the floor made Kaede groan in pain.
There was no time to apologize. The enemy before her was far more dangerous.
Kamari pulled a knife from beneath her stocking and raised it to block the attack.
Clang!
