Chapter 771: Conquering the City of Infernos
Chapter 771: Conquering the City of Infernos
Lilithra turned toward her stiffly, yet there was no sign of pain or anger on her face.
Srrt!
Lilithra’s massive body suddenly unraveled into a tangled mass of white threads.
Evalyn’s eyes widened in surprise. She quickly leaped back and assumed a fighting stance.
"Where is she?"
Her eyes narrowed as she scanned her surroundings. Lilithra’s most terrifying ability was her camouflage.
As long as she remained within the range of her web, she could conceal herself at will.
Whoosh!
A sharp thread shot toward her from the right.
Evalyn dodged it easily and caught a faint distortion in the air about four meters away.
"Got you!"
She crouched and lunged forward. As her sword slashed toward the distortion, it was suddenly deflected by an invisible barrier—it was one of Lilithra’s legs.
At the same time, another leg shot toward Evalyn’s stomach, but she managed to evade it.
"Hehe..." Lilithra let out a cold chuckle. "You can’t beat me, Young Lady. No one—not even the Hero of Light or the Hero of Darkness—can defeat me while I’m in stealth mode."
Her figure vanished once again.
Evalyn tensed and scanned her surroundings intently, searching for even the faintest trace of Lilithra.
Whoosh!
Hundreds of invisible threads shot toward her from behind.
Evalyn quickly leaped backward, barely avoiding the attack.
But before she could catch her breath, another wave of threads came from a different direction.
This time, she couldn’t dodge them.
The threads wrapped tightly around her body, forming a cocoon that left only her head exposed.
"Argh!" Evalyn gritted her teeth and struggled to break free, but it was useless.
These weren’t ordinary threads.
Each one was infused with Lilithra’s magic, making them incredibly tough.
"Hahaha!" Lilithra appeared out of nowhere and laughed triumphantly. "Looks like you let your guard down, Young Lady. You’re strong, I’ll give you that. But like I said, you can’t defeat me."
She stepped through her web and stopped right in front of Evalyn.
Lilithra slowly reached out and caressed Evalyn’s silky cheek.
"What an exquisite masterpiece. If I devour you, I’m certain I’ll become much stronger," she murmured, licking her lips.
There were only two ways for Lilithra to grow stronger—through training or by devouring other living creatures.
The latter was by far the faster method.
Over the years, she had consumed countless living beings, including fellow demons, allowing her to reach her current level of power.
However, as her strength increased, so did her standards. Only those with exceptional talent and power were worthy of becoming her prey.
Unfortunately, such individuals were extremely rare.
As a result, it had been ten years since she last tasted a creature of truly outstanding quality.
And now, that prey stood right before her.
The mere thought of it made her body tremble with excitement.
"You..." Evalyn glared at Lilithra with hatred and fury.
But before she could say another word, Lilithra’s sharp leg flashed forward and severed her head.
Lilithra caught the falling head and immediately sank her fangs into it.
She savored every drop of blood as though it were the finest delicacy in existence.
Afterward, she slowly devoured the rest of Evalyn’s body, enjoying every bite with pure satisfaction.
Fifteen minutes later, nothing remained.
"What extraordinary meat! I can feel my strength increasing with every passing second!"
She gazed at her body with undisguised excitement, savoring the sensation of her rapidly growing power.
It had been a long time since she had experienced such a dramatic increase in strength. It felt like a beautiful dream—one she had never believed could come true.
Just as she was reveling in her newfound power, a sharp pain suddenly erupted in her stomach.
Her face twisted in agony as she clutched her abdomen.
"I-It hurts!" she groaned. "W-What’s happening!?"
She hurriedly channeled her power through her body, but it was useless. The pain only intensified with each passing second until finally—
Srck!
A sword suddenly burst out from her abdomen and shot into the air.
Lilithra’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"A-A sword!?"
The sword hovered in the air for a brief moment before flying behind her.
Following its trajectory, Lilithra saw a beautiful woman standing atop one of the iron pillars nearby.
The woman caught the sword by its hilt and smiled faintly.
"How does my body feel? Ah, no. I suppose what you’re actually feeling is my sword."
She casually swung the Divine Sword Luminus to her side and let out a soft chuckle.
"You... You..." Lilithra pointed at Evalyn, her face turning pale. "How is this possible? How are you still alive!?"
"Still alive?" Evalyn sneered. "Since when did I die?"
She raised the Divine Sword Luminus slightly.
"From the very beginning, the one fighting you was never me. It was this sword."
As soon as Lilithra saw the blade clearly, all eight of her eyes widened in horror.
"T-The Divine Sword Luminus!? Impossible!" she shrieked.
The sword belonged to the Hero of Light, and only he was capable of wielding it. Yet now, it was in that woman’s hands.
It made no sense at all!
Evalyn paid no attention to Lilithra’s shock. She knew that defeating Lilithra without the Divine Sword Luminus was nearly impossible.
Fortunately, she had come up with a brilliant plan beforehand. Lilithra had a habit of devouring any living creature she deemed talented and powerful.
Evalyn had already suspected that the demon general would try to eat her. That was why she took advantage of a brief moment of distraction and tricked Lilithra into swallowing the Divine Sword Luminus.
What was the consequence of devouring that sword?
The answer was obvious—death.
The Divine Sword Luminus had been forged from the rarest materials in the world by the greatest smith on the continent.
Trying to devour such a weapon was no different from courting death.
"Ugh..."
A pained groan escaped Lilithra’s lips. She covered her mouth, but dark-red blood continued to seep through her fingers.
"It hurts... Argh!"
She let out a bloodcurdling scream.
Moments later, the light in all eight of her eyes faded. Her massive body went limp and crashed heavily to the ground.
One of the strongest Demon Generals of the Demon Empire had finally fallen.
Evalyn remained calm and composed. Had this been her first time arriving in this era, she would undoubtedly have been overjoyed.
But that was no longer the case.
She had already slain Malgrion and countless demon soldiers.
Those experiences had tempered her mind and sharpened her judgment.
With a thought, she stored the Divine Sword Luminus within her consciousness and turned her gaze toward the final tower.
Without hesitation, she raised her sword and brought it down in a powerful swing.
Boom!
The pillar shattered into several pieces before collapsing in all directions.
At the same moment, the magical barrier protecting Infernos City vanished completely.
The human forces, who had been held back by the city’s defenses, were stunned.
"The magical barrier is gone!" one of the generals shouted excitedly. "Everyone, attack! Take the city!"
"Yes, General!" the soldiers roared in unison.
Their morale surged instantly. Without the barrier protecting the city, their chances of victory had increased dramatically.
"Charge!"
Tens of thousands of human soldiers launched a full-scale assault, crashing into the demon army like a tidal wave.
The demons had never expected the five pillars to be destroyed so quickly.
"Retreat! Regroup!" one of the demon soldiers shouted.
However, before he could take a single step, a blade flashed past his neck.
Thud!
His head fell to the ground.
The same fate befell countless other demon soldiers. They desperately tried to retreat, but the relentless assault from the human forces gave them no opportunity to reorganize their ranks.
Forced into a chaotic battle, they could do nothing but fight to the death.
Meanwhile, from a distant rooftop, a man silently observed the battlefield.
It was Lucas.
His gaze was fixed on the fifth pillar that Evalyn had just destroyed.
"The power of the Divine Sword Luminus..." he muttered, narrowing his eyes.
