Chapter 979: Island of Silence
Chapter 979: Island of Silence
"Wow! This island is huge!"
Obsidia couldn’t help but stare at the vast landscape in front of her.
The Island of Silence was massive. The ground was as white as snow, soft and cool beneath their feet.
The trees and plants growing all around them were beautiful too.
They came in all kinds of colors—blue, green, red, and purple. Each one gave off a fresh, soothing scent.
"You’re right, Obsidia. Now I can see why they say this island is like a piece of heaven that fell to earth," Arnold said, looking around in awe.
Flugar didn’t say anything, but the excitement in his eyes was obvious.
"Even though I said this island is dangerous, the plants here are all valuable treasures. Take whatever you want."
"Really!?"
Obsidia’s eyes sparkled.
Nolan nodded.
"Go ahead and pick some, but don’t take more than you need. This island has a will of its own and will drive away anyone who gets too greedy."
"Yay!"
With Nolan’s permission, Obsidia began pulling up the plants she found beautiful and valuable.
She was a weapon spirit and naturally had a keen sense for valuable treasures.
Seeing how excited Obsidia was, Arnold and Flugar didn’t want to miss out either.
They joined her, gathering plants and other things they thought were valuable.
Nolan didn’t bother stopping them. Instead, he looked toward the highlands in the distance. That was where the world-level monster lived.
Ten minutes later, the three of them came back with excited looks on their faces.
"All done?" Nolan asked.
"Yes!" they all answered at the same time.
Nolan gave a slight nod and turned around.
"Let’s go."
...
"Huh... The work just never ends."
Seira let out a long sigh as she helplessly stared at the pile of documents in front of her.
It hadn’t been long since she became the emperor’s regent, but the work just kept piling up like there was no end to it.
Now she understood why her father always complained about work whenever they had casual conversations.
"What’s so great about being emperor? My siblings are really stupid," she muttered, shaking her head.
Seira stretched her stiff body before getting up to make some tea.
Boom!
A blue flash of lightning lit up the dark night sky, followed by a loud clap of thunder.
Seira walked over to the window and watched as a light drizzle started to fall, soaking the entire capital.
"Rain, huh?"
A sharp pain shot through her head. At the same time, a strange memory surfaced.
"Hey, Nolan, do you like the rain?"
"Rain? Of course I do. What about you?"
"Mhmm... I really like it. For some reason, I always think of you whenever it rains."
"Pfft! You’re a woman, but your words are sweeter than those jerks who are always trying to flirt with innocent girls."
The voice disappeared, and Seira came back to her senses.
The surprise on her face slowly faded, leaving her with a blank expression.
"Another strange memory."
For the past nine months, strange memories like this had been popping up in her mind from time to time.
At first, Seira didn’t think much of them.
But lately, they had started bothering her more and more. They were even starting to affect her personality and the way she acted.
Eventually, she talked to Cassiopeia, Orion, and the Constellation Mages about it.
Unfortunately, none of them could figure out where the memories came from.
However, Seira remembered Cassiopeia saying that the memories probably came from one of her past lives.
In other words, she was a reincarnated soul. It sounded crazy, but it wasn’t impossible.
"Nolan Frey..."
The image of that handsome man with black hair and purple eyes appeared in her mind again.
She didn’t know who he was, but that man kept appearing in her memories over and over again.
Those memories made her long for him, even though they had never actually met.
...
"Achoo!"
Nolan suddenly sneezed.
"Are you all right, my lord?" Arnold asked worriedly.
Nolan waved his hand.
"Get ready. The battle will be fierce."
At his peak, Nolan could have easily taken down a world-class monster. But right now, he was only at eighty percent of his full strength.
That was still enough to kill the monster, but the fight wouldn’t be easy.
Besides, he wanted to hone the teamwork between Arnold, Flugar, and Obsidia. The three of them had never fought together before, and this was the perfect opportunity to do so.
They finally arrived at a massive cave. The entrance alone was over fifty meters high, while its width reached one hundred meters.
"Wow! It’s huge!" Obsidia exclaimed in amazement.
Arnold frowned warily.
"My lord, just how big is that monster?"
Nolan paused for a moment before answering.
"Probably more than sixty meters."
Arnold and Obsidia were startled and exchanged glances.
"Don’t worry. We’ll be able to defeat it."
Nolan didn’t originally want to fight the monster because he didn’t think it was necessary.
Unfortunately, Malverna was in such a dire situation that he had no choice but to face it.
They entered the cave, and a foul stench immediately filled the air.
Obsidia quickly covered her nose.
"The smell is absolutely disgusting."
Arnold chuckled softly.
"Monsters never brush their teeth after eating. What did you expect?" he joked.
Obsidia pouted and said nothing.
Along the way, they came across many strange blue, cone-shaped plants that gave off a bright light.
"Master, what kind of plants are those?" Flugar asked in a hoarse voice.
"Those are Cosmo Altira—one of the poisonous plants. If you touch them, the poison will seep through your pores and destroy your body from the inside."
Nolan’s explanation shocked Obsidia, who had been about to touch it.
Arnold laughed at her silly behavior.
"Did you want to touch it just now?" he teased.
"W-What do you mean? Don’t get the wrong idea!" she snorted.
Nolan glanced at the two of them and smiled. It seemed like their relationship had gotten closer while he was away in his previous world.
They finally reached the depths of the cave. The area was huge, with naturally formed stone pillars scattered all around.
What caught their attention the most was a giant horse-like monster—no, it was actually a unicorn.
Unlike the unicorns from legend, this monster was jet black, with two sharp horns sticking out from its forehead.
Its fangs would also show from time to time whenever it breathed.
It had two folded wings on its back, while sharp claws were clearly visible on all four of its legs.
"Is that a world-level monster?"
Flugar took a step back.
Even a catastrophe-level monster was scary enough, but the monster in front of him was on a whole different level.
"What an incredible aura. Can we beat it, Master?" Obsidia asked doubtfully.
Nolan smiled faintly.
"We’ll see. By the way, I’ve changed my mind. You three will fight it while I watch from a distance."
The three of them were taken aback.
"Are you sure? You’re not joking, are you?"
Obsidia looked panicked.
Nolan rolled his eyes.
"Why do you look so scared?"
"I’m not scared, but..."
Obsidia stared hesitantly at the monster and was about to say something, but Arnold patted her on the shoulder first.
"Don’t worry, my lord. Leave it to us!"
Obsidia: "..."
