The Innkeeper

Chapter 1891: Brewing trouble

Chapter 1891: Brewing trouble

The Eclipsecrawler turned her head sideways as she looked at the human, and then at the Gabana fruit he was sitting on. Even in the Primordial Garden, a Gabana fruit was not insignificant. In fact, she could count every single Gabana fruit that had ever matured within her realm, and she even knew how they were used.

It took her merely a moment’s consideration to figure out which one of the fruits this was, and what had happened to it. From what she recalled, it had been purchased from her by one of the Ventura kids.

Well, she called them kids but they were actually elders among the organization’s hierarchy. It didn’t matter. Since she had sold it, she didn’t care what happened to it, but... she really hadn’t anticipated that those kids were buying it so that another, even younger kid could sit on it.

Of course, if the Eclipsecrawler had not disabled her awareness, she would instantly be able to tell what really happened to the fruit. She would sense Wu Kong’s aura and, based on what she knew about him, would be able to devise what actually happened. Too bad that she didn’t unseal her awareness, so she couldn’t tell.

The more she looked at the human, the more she thought he was a genius. Why had she never thought of sitting on a Gabana fruit?

Hmm, probably because her arachnid body did not allow her to sit on the fruit so easily probably. But even so, the human had discovered a brand new use for the Gabana fruit! How interesting!

Lex, meanwhile, continued to make the best use of his time. In truth, it would take nearly two days before the next attack, so he could finally spare a moment to the various notifications the Inn had been sending him.

He directly ignored the ones about Dao Lords. Due to the difference in the flow of time, things were going by much quicker in the Midnight Realm, but since the Primordial Garden was not a full fledged Mature realm, the flow of time was not 3 times faster. Even so, during the time that Lex had been undergoing his tribulation, four different Dao Lords had come and met with Wu Kong.

That was a whole other issue which Lex would deal with later on. For now, he turned his attention elsewhere.

New Notification: Primordial energy detected! Activating Primordial Energy Scale!

Fortunately, after all this time, the scale had not even reached 1% so he had a lot of time. He was instead hoping to connect the Inn to the Primordial Garden and unlock the Innkeepers glasses. For that he quickly bought a ticket and tore it. As long as he spent enough time in the Garden, it would be connected to the Inn.

Lex read on.

New Notification: Time anomaly detected! New feature unlocked: Time Vault!

Time Vault

Stores anomalous time energy for later use. Can currently be used in: none! Current balance: 14,442 years.

New Notification: Host realm increase detected! Existing features upgraded!

New Quest: You have encountered a Heavens Puppet. Wings like angels, arms like the devil and a halo like a saint. These incredibly rare beings, often considered empty vessels, are living servants of Heaven. Accept a Heavens Puppet as a guest at the Midnight Inn.

Quest Reward: 1 permanent Butter Knife upgrade

Quest timelimit: 361 days

Remarks: Even before history was recorded, it was still being witnessed. Your clothes being burned off during your tribulation were both witnessed and recorded.

Lex paused. A permanent Butter Knife upgrade. The stronger he got, the less that was tempting, but he could not ignore that an attack capable of crippling a Demi-Dao Lord was incredibly reassuring. If he could naturally upgrade his Butter Knife to such a point...

Lex took in a deep breath and put that thought aside. Let alone the fact that Lex had no idea how to contact and invite a Heavens puppet to his inn, even if he did, he would not focus on that right now. These were matters for later. He needed to see if the system had something that could help him in his current predicament.

Unfortunately, no matter how he searched through the notifications, he saw nothing that could help him out immediately. Instead, he saw another, very troublesome quest - one that he needed to pay a whole lot more attention to.

Chain quest initiated!

Quest Background: The universe is facing troubled times as countless Realm Wars have been initiated. The fate of trillions changes every moment, and hope can provide neither shelter nor warmth. The Midnight Inn, however, can provide both!

Quest 1: Re-enable universewide teleportation capabilities!

Quest time limit: 26 days.

Quest failure punishment: Shutdown of non-critical system features for 1 year, 300,000 MT.

Quest Reward: Tavern control upgrade!

Remarks: You can run, but since you have a habit of burning your clothes, that will show everyone your butt!

Lex grimaced. The system was always annoying him with its remarks, but it was actually the quests which would always get to him. Enabling universe wide teleportation would, most likely, end up causing a massive flood of refugees into his Inn, causing him to provoke countless forces.

The problem was, while the punishment for failing the quest sounded bad, he had a feeling that things weren’t so simple. He felt like the teleportation abilities might be forcibly enabled even if he kept them locked.

That headache, alongside the constant Dao Lords... Lex grimaced. It seemed like he would need to bring the Innkeeper out of his seclusion and trick some people, or else his tenure as a Heaven Immortal might be really short.
