Chapter 2048: Drinking Pain and Violence

Chapter 2048: Drinking Pain and Violence

’I have fought through thousands of wars.’

As a High Millinar—it was natural for one to have immense battle experience. It was the High Millinars’ sole duty to fight for the High Lord they served. But High Millinar Vlaos was one with far more battle experience than the others.

He was so used to battle that he could read the minds of his enemies.

Subtle muscle cues and even the thoughts were visible to him.

Many suspected him to have a Law regarding foresight or the like, but he didn’t.

It was simply experience and instinct.

But when he stared at Rex, the dangerous individual Diamantona warned, he couldn’t see anything.

No thought inside Rex’s mind—only the savage urge to kill. Most of the warriors involved in this battle had only one thought in mind, and that is to defeat the enemies and survive. Rex wasn’t thinking about that at all.

Only kill.

Only about the blood streaming inside his enemies’ bodies. Only about his enemies’ thumping hearts.

And everything else was instinct.

So, the moment he made his move, there was no chance for High Millinar Vlaos to read it.

Swish—!

’He’s gone?!’

High Millinar Vlaos’ breath was stuck in his throat as he snapped his head over his shoulder—watching the phantom looming behind him. Rex had used his staple movement combination, Primordial Step skill and the Moonflow Voidal Acceleration, allowing him to close the distance in an instant.

The Red Dawn of Kaiser donned his claws, and a swipe from him was destructive.

Boom—!

Upon impact, his claws stopped a few inches away.

Ancient bloody writings crawled into existence as Rex activated Brutal Impulse.

High Millinar Vlaos felt the space around him was locked, but he managed to raise his arm to block in the nick of time. He was hurled down, spinning mid-air like a ragdoll, and stopped when he was about to slam into the dark ocean.

Above, Rex had already changed his target.

Instead of keeping pressure on High Millinar Vlaos, he went straight for High Millinar Angela.

He used Red Force to kick the air, chasing her in the sky.

"Ocean Mirage of Paradise Technique!" High Millinar Vlaos channelled his immortal energy to the tips of his index and middle fingers, and then pressed it directly into his core. It shot into his core and spread across his body. "Release!"

Splash—!

Almost instantly, his body exploded into water and reconstructed into ten identical water mirages.

Each one was clad in the same armour, and their auras were exactly the same as the original. A perfect clone technique that didn’t sacrifice the power of the caster at all, which placed it easily a technique at the divine rank.

But High Millinar Vlaos didn’t stop there.

"Exalted Spell: Arsenal of the Ocean!"

As soon as he finished chanting, the dark ocean beneath him began to churn. The dark water, already restless, erupted into chaos. Ten massive whirlpools spiraled into existence, seemingly out of nowhere, with each one wide enough to swallow the biggest ship ever built.

From the heart of each whirlpool, a magical glowing blue formation began to manifest.

Circles of ancient script and glowing runes pulsed with the authority of the deep.

And then the ocean’s arsenal opened its door.

Weapons rose from the whirlpools like offerings from a forgotten treasury. A sword, an axe, a spear—ten different weapons in total appeared from the chaotic ocean. Each one was forged from the bones of the ocean itself.

Their blades gleamed with the cold light of abyssal depths, their handles wrapped in coral and scale, and their edges were sharp enough to cut anything. They hovered above the whirlpools for a heartbeat, dripping with seawater, and then shot toward the water mirages.

Each weapon found its master as if called by name.

Now, all ten water mirages were equipped with a deadly weapon, but they weren’t finished.

Swoosh—!

Immortal energy flared around each figure, and together they summoned the Law of Ocean Water. The dark ocean below responded instantly. Water siphoned upward in ten thick tendrils, rising like serpents from the deep, coiling around each weapon in spirals of living liquid.

And then, the water seeped into the blades, into the hafts, into the very metal itself.

An aura of deep blue that coated each weapon like a second skin was summoned.

It radiated so much energy that it continued to pulse and doubled the aura of the weapons.

Once the arming process was completed, they blasted skyward—ten streaks of deep blue.

Each one charged at Rex with their empowered weapons, trailing arcs of ocean-light behind them.

Meanwhile, Rex exploded forward.

"What happened to your confidence?" He asked with a cynical laugh—eyes widening, and there was a maniacal light in them. "I could smell alcohol on you. Shouldn’t you be confident enough to fight me? Why are you running?!"

"You lunatic!" High Millinar Angela blasted away, trying to get as far away from Rex as possible.

But she wasn’t running fast enough.

Clang—!

Rex reached her back, and his claws carved a brutal arc across her back—the forceful impact rang hard against her robe like a hammer on an anvil. The fabric was hard as metal armour, but the sheer force of the strike was strong enough to hurl her downward.

He continued his assault, giving no time for her to breathe.

In the blink of an eye, he charged his claws with the Unholy Claws of the Reaper and slashed—only to hit air. High Millinar Angela’s body dissolved into mist and scattered into the wind. But Rex was quick to react.

A bronze copy of himself emerged from his body and slashed at the retreating mist.

But its claws didn’t connect.

Rex had used the Damned Specter skill.

It was a copy of himself within another dimension, but due to the realm’s unique power that was given by the Cluster Custodian, anything from another dimension or realm would be forced to be fully visible and could be seen by the naked eye, which was why the specter emerged as a bronze likeness of him.

Tch. I put life energy into the Damned Specter’s claws, and yet it didn’t connect. Where is her real body?

High Millinar Angela assumed an intangible form before she was struck.

Naturally, Rex thought that she retreated to the curse dimension or spirit dimension.

Since his attack missed, it meant her intangible form wasn’t within those two dimensions.

But he still had a trick up his sleeve.

Just then, his senses flared. He sensed many presences, and they were approaching fast.

Rex’s instinct tugged him, and his body obeyed with surprising reaction time as he kicked a quick blast of energy behind him and launched himself forward, narrowly avoiding a spear thrust from below. He made a twist mid-air to recover his balance, and then found himself surrounded.

He looked around—ten figures were now surrounding him.

Ten High Millinar Vlaos.

Each one wielded a weapon forged by the ocean itself—and each one moved with the silent coordination of a hunting pack. "Erase that arrogance of yours." One of them spoke in disgust and anger. "You have not seen our full might, and you’re already attacking us brazenly."

"Coincidentally..." Rex’s lips curled into a smirk. "Neither have you. Let’s take this up a notch."

Swoosh—!

Rex slowly began to call out all three of his Soul Artifacts.

A golden disc materialized at his back, and a black half-mask settled over his face, avoiding the snout. He activated their powers, and a layer of golden exoskeleton began to manifest across his body, rising his physical prowess.

And then, his left eye was glazed by dark energy, allowing him to see doubles or even triples.

Once he was ready, he clapped his hands—it was thunderous.

In a taunting fashion, he spread his arms wide, spread his chest open, and had it face the sky.

"Come!"

Boom—!

Driven by fury, the ten water mirages charged.

All of them came at once without hesitation at all.

Each mirage moved with the fluid grace of emperor penguins cutting through deep water; their weapons thrust, slashed, and even fired from every angle. It was a carnival of bladed strikes that forced Rex to dodge, swerve, and block without even a second to breathe.

Behind, the golden disc hovered, guarding his blind spot while using the Law of Misdirection.

But even with the Law active, the attacks still connected.

Just to show how powerful his enemies were right now compared to those he came across.

As for his half-mask, it hummed with the Law of Foresight, allowing him to predict the path of every attack a heartbeat before it arrived. For many, utilizing this Law in a high-speed battle like this would be really difficult, as there was only a second window, but Rex’s reaction time was even quicker.

Even then, High Millinar Vlaos wasn’t slow.

Slash—!

A halberd slipped past his guard from below and carved a long, bleeding arc from his stomach up to his cheek. Blood sprayed—carving a beautiful arc in the air. He turned his face at the last second, avoiding a thrust that would have pierced through his chin.

Pain lashed him from every direction, and violence overwhelmed him.

But Rex drank them in.

He welcomed it.

The pain was wine, and he had a high tolerance for it. Every wound, every near-miss, and every strike that should’ve killed him only fed the fire burning in his chest. It only made him even more feral. Much wilder.

The golden exoskeleton cracked and mended.

The half-mask hummed with predictive power even stronger.

And the ten mirages, for all their seamless coordination, began to realize that damaging this monster in front of them was the wrong thing to do. Instead of making him weaker, the damage dealt only made him stronger.

Rex caught the spear mid-thrust; his palm closed around the shaft and stopped it dead with an iron grip.

Swiftly, he used his other hand to deflect a sword strike—his claws shrieked against the blade.

And at the same time, he controlled the golden disc behind him to slam into a water mirage rising from directly below, knocking it aside. Right now, his body was gauged with bleeding cuts and lacerations— even three arrows were sticking into his torso.

But it didn’t matter as his lips curled into a sadistic smile.

Roar—!

Rex howled, unleashing a blast of immortal energy from his body like a detonation.

A shockwave of raw power that hurled every water mirage around him backward.

They tumbled through the air, and their forms rippled—struggling to maintain cohesion. Before any of them could recover, Rex howled again. But this time, the howl was infused with his new skill, Almighty Bearing.

Crack—!

From his body, a crimson flare spread across like mist, creating a pressure that slammed down on every entity around him, crushing their shoulders and shooting a painful throb into their skulls. All water mirages froze, both their minds and bodies locked.

Rex moved.

He blurred to the back of the nearest mirage, grabbed its helmeted head with one hand—and drove his claws through the gap beneath its chin. He ripped upward, tearing through the neck in a brutal manner— and the mirage dissolved into water.

Even before it splashed, he already moved to the next target.

A slash across one’s chest. A thrust through another’s spine. Three more fell in as many heartbeats; their forms collapsed back into the ocean. He caught the spear of the last mirage, spun, and hurled it hard at another rising mirage, impaling it through the neck.

Five down.

He turned to move again—and froze.

Something phased through him. Not physical. Not quite. A ghost of cold that passed through his chest, his lungs, his heart. His body locked up, his blood slowed, and his muscles seized. High Millinar Angela. She phased through him again, and again.

Each pass freezing his insides a little more.

His breath misted, and his limbs grew heavy.

Rex’s hand shot out and caught her by the throat, through her intangible form.

"What?!" High Millinar Angela’s eyes widened. "H-How did you—?!"

But Rex only smirked in return, shooting terror into her.
