Chapter 2050: Clash of Demigods (2)
Chapter 2050: Clash of Demigods (2)
’A phantom touch from an Eldritch Ice Apparition would freeze the body from the inside.’ High Millinar Angela watched as her phantoms phased into Rex over and over again—a barrage of bodies that created devastating ripples across the ocean bed. ’Ten phantom touches would render a 1-star Awakened Demigod frozen, and more would result in their souls freezing over, giving them a permanent and swift death.’
’It was why everyone I fought tried their best to avoid me, and yet, he didn’t fight back?’
She gritted her teeth furiously.
Rex’s sheer arrogance was something to behold, but then she smiled.
Despite how annoyed she was that an enemy was openly looking down at her, she should be thankful.
’By now...’ Her lips curled higher. ’He must’ve already turned into ice. Body and soul.’
Just then, High Millinar Vlaos arrived beside her.
"What are you doing?!" He spoke underwater, treating the dark ocean like the surface.
"What do you mean, what am I doing? I’m finishing this arrogant bastard."
"Finishing him? Go even harder! It’s not enough!"
"Wh-What? What do you mean is not enough?"
"I can still feel his heart beating loud and clear! Pour your Law more!"
"T-That’s impossible..." High Millinar Angela slowly turned towards where—the barrage of phantoms was still going. "At this point, he should be struck more than fifty times. You must be paranoid. Nobody could endure that many touches from my kind."
"Are you still drunk?!" High Millinar Vlaos roared. "Do you think I would lie in this situation?!"
Out of nowhere, the water around them began to tremble.
A faint but evident vibration travelled through the water like a seismic quake.
Realizing where it was coming from, High Millinar Vlaos—and Angela slowly turned their heads to the churning part of the ocean bed. And it was then their hearts skipped a beat and their stomachs turned from the uncomfortable twist.
It was laughter—the vibrations came from laughter.
Rex spread his arms and allowed the cold phantoms to strike him as he laughed aloud, his crimson eyes glowing bright amidst the endless dark of the ocean bed. Despite his situation, despite being relentlessly attacked and drowned, he was laughing.
Yes... This is it!
Elation surged through him, and his eyes widened even further with madness.
I’ve grown stronger, and I saw my own stats. But it’s not enough. Nothing beat this!
Rumble—!
Rex’s aura spread across the entire ocean bed, turning the darkness around him into a shade of crimson.
He knew that he was stronger now after what he had gone through in the last three days, but he hadn’t really felt how strong he had gotten. But now, under the constant barrage from an Awakened Demigod, he truly realized how strong he had gotten.
To think the Absolute Anger Effect didn’t even get activated! How strong have I become?!
Boom—!
Rex’s aura spread.
It pushed outward in silent waves, moving at a crawl but swallowing everything in its path. Despite the immortal energy that was charged in the water by the two High Millinars, his aura spread farther than it should have.
Around him, the dark water began to bubble, then boil, as if the ocean was reacting to him.
Reacting to something it had never encountered.
High Millinar Angela and Vlaos recoiled upward out of reflex when Rex began to rise from the ocean bed. His claws moved despite the torrent binding his arms and dug into the soil. His body strained hard against the resistance, but sat up eventually before he stood up.
His feet planted against the silt, and his spine straightened inch by inch.
Seeing this, High Millinar Vlaos charged his power more.
On each limb, the torrent screamed in protest, rotating harder, faster, trying to crush Rex’s arms like the pressure from the deepest ocean trench or even tear them from their sockets. But even then, even as he poured more immortal energy, it was no use.
Rex’s regeneration kept pace.
Muscles tore. Tendons snapped. Only the bone remained stubborn, impossible to break.
Each damage was mended instantly before the pain could even register.
Evolving into the Greater Lycan race elevated his body to another height of power. Everything he had during his time as the Exalted Royal Black Prince was upgraded. He became a better—and stronger version of what he once was.
Not even these two would be able to overpower his regeneration without using everything they got.
Swoosh—!
High Millinar Angela gritted her teeth as she made her cold phantoms phase through Rex even faster now. More and more of them. Ten becoming twenty, and then fifty, one hundred. She watched each one slam into his chest, his core, his mind.
Ice spread through the water around him, through his organs.
Even his blood crystallized.
And then, as quickly as it appeared, his body burned it away.
His hot blood and his regeneration, forged in the furnace of his evolution, melted the frost easily.
’I-Impossible... This is impossible! Nobody endured ten, and yet he had taken more than a hundred!’
As someone who worked under High Lord Ursa, overseeing dozens of realms and always being one of the strongest, she couldn’t believe this. Millions of her kind and millions more had been slaughtered for her to temper her power.
Only a Transcended Demigod and a few Awakened Demigods would be able to sustain her power.
She was supposed to be a powerhouse within her rank.
But Rex made her look like a novice.
"Harder! Pummel him! He’s standing up!" High Millinar Vlaos’ voice cut through the water, believing that enough cold phantoms would end Rex. Besides, with the Law of Freezing, the ice would stack, so he believed in her. "Use everything you have!"
"I can’t keep this up!" High Millinar Angela shouted back. "It’s not working on him!"
Summoning the cold phantoms required immense immortal energy.
Making ten was already exhausting, but she had already created more than a hundred by now.
Even with the ocean around her, supplying her with endless water, which was the core material to create the cold phantoms without wasting too much immortal energy, there was a limit to how many times she could create them.
And now, she was already nearing that limit.
Not to mention, she was also maintaining the Law of Freezing on Rex.
Attempting to enhance the ice that was affecting Rex.
But another Law was battling her; it was the Law of Inevitability that Rex had stated earlier.
’Just what kind of monster is he...? How could he possess such physical strength to resist my power? Is he really from the Mortal Realm? That measly realm—that was fought over by multiple Gods?’ High Millinar Angela swallowed harshly. ’Diamantona was right. He-he’s dangerous!’
"Fucking drunkard!" High Millinar Vlaos gritted his teeth and swam upward.
He refused to believe that the two of them couldn’t beat one Demigod who was nothing days ago.
’I know our plan was to attack the backline first—take out the easiest people and then work our way up to the strongest. But I won’t allow this to slide! My pride won’t allow it!’ He gritted his teeth hard, and drew back his remaining water mirages into his body and then raised his arms overhead. ’I refused to believe that I can’t even scratch him!’
Boom—!
Once again, he channelled his power.
Above, the water swirled and pulled towards him, coalescing and condensing until a massive spear the size of five adults materialized. It was intricate and gleaming—far stronger than the ones he summoned previously through his spell.
Its tip was sharp enough to pierce any aegis.
But he didn’t think that was enough, so he poured the Law of Ocean Water into it.
Rapidly, the spear blazed with deep blue light, becoming one with the ocean.
And only then did he hurl it straight at Rex.
Swoosh—!
The spear shot through the ocean faster than a bullet—faster than thought. Water was supposed to slow things down; that was the law of nature, but this spear ignored that as it was one with the ocean. It cut through the dark sea like a blade through silk and headed straight for Rex’s heart.
And then it stopped as a concussive blast exploded in an expanding ring.
Rex’s claws caught it by the blade, stopping it dead in its tracks.
"H-How can this be...?" He mumbled as his face turned pale.
On the other hand, Rex pushed the ocean spear to the side and snarled, ready to counterattack.
Since he had already tasted how strong his body had become, it was time to savour his next meal.
Staying on the defensive, absorbing pain, had been revealing—it showed him the new depth of his own durability. Others might think he was crazy doing that at a time like this, but it was simply his beast side that always liked the pain that would fuel his anger.
But now that it was satiated, he would begin his attack.
Both me and my other side wanted to feel alive. Just that we have different taste buds.
Rex licked his lips as he longed to taste their blood.
Meanwhile, on the red shore.
A streak of energy carved through the length of the red shore—a blur of white-hot power that slid across the surface of the dark water and continued. High Lord Rashal tackled High Lord Ursa, driving him far away from the others.
Dragging High Lord Ursa as far from the main battlefield as he could manage.
Once they clashed—the aftershocks would be devastating. It would not be a clash lesser warriors could survive. Not the High Millinars. Not even Rex. So—he would take this fight elsewhere. Far away from the others.
Sensing an attack, High Lord Rashal planted both his palms into High Lord Ursa’s stomach.
Boom—!
A beam of pure-white energy speared High Lord Ursa away.
But at the same time, a pillar of water erupted from below.
It punched High Lord Rashal in the stomach and sent him skyward, a geyser of immense force that sent him spinning through the cold air. He recovered quickly—centuries of being in war had taught him to recover as quickly as possible, as a moment is all it takes for one to lose their life.
And when he looked down, he saw a gaping maw.
A massive coiling dragon made entirely of dark water rushed up to devour him whole.
Even then, there was no surprise in his eyes as they flashed white.
Inside the water dragon, a bright white light emerged and then exploded, shattering it completely.
It was reduced back to the base water it had been created from, scattering into a harmless cascade of droplets that rained down upon the dark ocean below. High Lord Rashal straightened in the air, looking down at High Lord Ursa with a cold expression.
The exchange had lasted seconds, but the violence had been absolute.
And below, High Lord Ursa watched, his own eyes narrowing.
Countless people had pissed him off in the past; that was the consequence of living so long and being the most dominant force. People wanted to tear him down. But none had ever made him as angry as he was right now.
It was because of that look on High Lord Rashal’s face.
A face that seemed never to break, no matter the situation.
And his gaze, it was the gaze of someone who always sees others as beneath him.
"So... This is it, High Lord Rashal." He smirked, and then shook his head. "No, let’s drop the formality. Rashal, I’ve always hated you the moment you became a High Lord because of that face of yours. Do you think you’re more noble than me or the other High Lords?"
"No, you misunderstood me—Ursa. I know that I’m more noble." High Lord Rashal’s indifferent eyes narrowed, and then he raised his index finger to point at High Lord Ursa. "Especially compared to you. You rose to power through privilege, and retained it by cheating. Compared to me, who rose to power with my own strength, yes, you’re beneath me."
