Chapter 1225: Warden’s Door

Chapter 1225: Warden’s Door

Lith stared at the rusted metallic door that had suddenly appeared in the courtyard.

It stood a few steps away from the table where he and Lilith had been having tea. The maids nearby had already moved away after noticing the strange door, while Lilith remained seated and watched her son.

Lith could feel the prison on the other side.

The feeling was faint but unmistakable.

He walked closer and placed his hand on the handle. The Warden inheritance stirred within him and gave a strange sense of familiarity, as if opening this door was something completely natural.

‘So I really summoned this thing?’

Lith twisted the handle.

Creak…

The door slowly opened.

A narrow stone passage appeared on the other side. Dim lights illuminated the walls and several metallic doors could be seen further ahead.

Lith raised his eyebrows.

He had gone through so many levels of the prison but this was his first time seeing such a place.

He stepped inside.

Nothing happened.

There were no monsters, strange whispers, or ridiculous restrictions trying to kill him. Compared to the other areas of the prison, this passage was surprisingly normal.

Lith walked a little further and placed his hand on the wall.

A faint understanding surfaced in his mind.

Warden Passage.

That was all.

Lith tried focusing harder but a dull pain immediately appeared in his head.

“Tch…”

He stopped and did not enter any deeper.

The prison seemed unwilling to explain things properly so it seemed like he would have to experiment on his own to understand everything.

He wanted to know one important thing. It was whether his Warden authority had somehow caused part of that place to extend all the way into Nightingale or not.

The prison was an enormous and extremely dangerous place after all.

Lith looked back at Lilith.

“Mom, is the prison actually reaching into Nightingale through this door?”

Lilith stood and walked closer to examine the doorway before answering. A moment later, she said, “No, I don’t think the prison itself has moved or extended here.”

She pointed at the open doorway. “This is more like an entrance leading you to it. The courtyard is still the courtyard, and the prison is still wherever it originally is.”

“Oh…”

That was much easier to understand.

So opening the door had not brought any part of the prison into Nightingale. It had simply given Lith another way to enter it.

He felt relieved.

Lith looked through the doorway once more before walking back into the courtyard to experiment and understand his authority a bit more.

He looked around for something small and noticed a few pebbles near one of the flowerbeds. Picking one up, he tried channeling his Warden authority into it.

Nothing happened.

Lith frowned and tried again, this time adding a little of his bloodline power.

A faint dark-red symbol slowly appeared on the pebble.

“Oh?”

Lith could feel a weak connection with it.

He stared at the symbol for a while, but no additional information appeared.

“Mom, could you take this somewhere else in the castle?”

Lilith took the pebble from his hand.

“How far?”

“Anywhere nearby should be enough.”

Lilith nodded and disappeared.

Lith waited for a short while before entering the Warden Passage again.

The moment he focused on the marked pebble, he felt something from one of the metallic doors deeper inside the passage.

It was faint.

Lith walked toward it and placed his hand on the handle.

The feeling became clearer.

He opened the door.

Bright crimson moonlight entered the passage.

Lith stepped through and found himself standing in one of the Royal Castle’s gardens.

Lilith was nearby, holding the pebble.

Lith turned around and looked at the rusted door standing between the flowers.

“So that actually worked…”

He walked over to Lilith and looked at the mark without taking the pebble from her.

It was still there.

Lith did not know whether it was the mark itself, his Warden authority, or something else related to the prison that allowed the door to appear here.

He would have to figure that out later.

For now, he wanted to try one more thing.

Lith stepped back through the garden door but left it open.

Once inside the Warden Passage, he focused on the same doorway and tried making it wider.

The door expanded.

At first there wasn’t much resistance, so Lith continued until several people could comfortably pass through together.

His spiritual power began draining much faster.

At the same time—

Crack!

Lith stopped.

The marked pebble in Lilith’s hand had developed a thin fracture.

The doorway immediately shrunk when Lith stopped pushing his authority into it.

He walked back into the garden.

Lilith handed him the cracked pebble.

Lith inspected it carefully.

‘Was the pebble too weak?’

Maybe.

Or perhaps there was something wrong with how he had placed the mark.

He had no idea.

Lith put the pebble inside his spatial ring. There was no reason to keep testing random stones right now when he had better materials available elsewhere.

Still, this was enough to make him think.

If these marks worked across greater distances, there were many things he could try during the war.

Roy knew the Evure God Clan’s territories far better than Lith did and could probably help him find useful locations.

But that could wait.

Lith had already made another promise.

Meng Yuexin had been waiting for him for three days and her brother was still inside the prison.

Lith returned through the garden door and followed the Warden Passage back to the original courtyard.

He stepped outside and focused on the Warden authority again, this time thinking about closing the passage.

The rusted metallic door slowly disappeared.

“At least that part is simple…” Lith muttered.

He then looked at his mother who was already back from the garden.

“I need to go now, mom. Meng Yuexin’s been waiting long enough.”

Lilith nodded and walked over to pulled him in a hug.

“Don’t make mama wait for too long, my dear. Be back soon.”

“Mm.”

Lith hugged her back and gently caressed her hair.

The two stayed together for a while before exchanging a soft kiss.

Lith then left the courtyard and went to the temporary residence arranged for Meng Yuexin.

She was already waiting for him.

The moment Lith appeared, she stood up.

“Are we leaving?”

Lith nodded.

“Let’s go get your brother.”

…
