Chapter 281: An Unforgivable Mistake

Chapter 281: An Unforgivable Mistake

"How are we supposed to fight that?" she asked.

"We have to. Either we win or we die here," Yuki replied, licking her lips.

Even if she knew she couldn’t win, she wouldn’t back down from the opportunity of killing something that big. She readied herself. Somehow, she knew the beast would descend from the sky at any moment, and her goal was to kill it right then and there.

Selthia too was prepared for the attack. She summoned her trident and held it steady as she pointed it towards the sky. With how erratic the dragon’s movements were, she wasn’t confident that she could hit it.

The dragon’s movements were reminiscent of a piece of fabric blowing in the wind. Its movement made it impossible for them to know when to strike or to attack. All they could do at that moment was wait.

So they did.

Selthia closed her eyes and took a deep breath. The reason she had come here was to prove to herself that she wasn’t useless. She wanted to be praised by her darling for defeating one of the queen witches, and maybe something more.

No, she wanted to further her step in her relationship. But first, she had to prove herself.

Her love was the source of her power, and she was certain she wouldn’t lose no matter what.

Her eyes snapped open, and at the same time, the dragon plunged forward towards her.

Yuki’s smile widened while Selthia planted her feet on the ground and swung her trident in a horizontal arc. A water slash burst from the trident. It cut through the air towards the witch of greed and her dragon.

The dragon danced through the air as if it was as light as a feather and easily evaded the attack. But that didn’t stop Selthia. She calmly fired a vertical slash next, forcing the dragon to dive out of its path.

She continued to fire attack after attack towards the dragon, but none of her attacks even hit the dragon. Worse, her arm was starting to ache from holding the heavy trident up for so long. Soon, the beast was so close that it would be impossible for her to dodge in time.

The dragon opened its mouth wide as it came at her at full force, but at the last second, she was pushed out of its path by none other than Yuki. The dragon, unable to pull back because of the speed at which it was approaching, crashed into the ground.

At that moment, Selthia felt it was her time to act. She quickly jumped to her feet and aimed her trident at the dragon and witch that had just fallen to the ground. Around her trident, giant orbs of water began to form. These orbs were as large as a car and were then molded to look like drills.

Without wasting another second, Selthia propelled her attacks towards her target. Her attacks exploded forward with the force of a rocket. Seeing the attacks aimed at her, the witch of greed raised both of her hands into the air as if she was trying to summon something from the ground, and immediately, a towering purple wall sprouted from the ground in front of her.

A powerful explosion sounded when Selthia’s attack collided against the wall. The exploding liquid caused the entire area to be covered in steam so thick that none of them could see through.

Still, Yuki used the opportunity to lunge forward. She easily hopped over the wall the witch of greed had created. The wall was almost scratchless even though it was hit by Selthia’s powerful magic attack.

Yuki aimed to surprise the witch; hence, the moment she hopped over the wall, she swung her tail. The witch of greed easily stepped back to evade Yuki’s attempt, which caused Yuki to grit her teeth in annoyance.

’How did she see me through all this mist?’ Yuki wondered. ’Doesn’t mater.’

Yuki’s goal wasn’t to decapitate the witch with her tail. She simply wanted to poison the witch with the venom at the tip of her so that she would be easier to kill. One scratch was all it would take.

Not giving up on her plan, Yuki lunged forward, using her fast movements to run circles around the witch before attacking when she least expected, but the witch saw through every one of her attempts.

Her power was just too unreal. And she wasn’t even a real dragon. Yuki shuttered to think what the real thing was like.

Selthia, on the other hand, stood waiting for the steam to clear as she readied another attack. She tried to call out to Yuki, but then quickly realized that the ghoul was gone. Selthia waited for a few minutes until the steam, started to clear, and she could see a faint outline of her surroundings.

That’s when she noticed something walking towards her. She saw a purple silhouette, and remembering that the witch’s skin had turned to that color, so she didn’t hesitate before firing three attacks in the direction of the silhouette.

She heard a sickening croak after her attacks were fired. For a moment, she assumed she might’ve hit the witch by surprise, but then the mist cleared, and what laid before her wasn’t the witch.

It was Yuki with a gaping hole in her chest and two more in her stomach. Yuki was being held up by the witch of greed as the life drained from her eyes.

Realizing the unforgivable mistake she had made, Selthia trembled, and soon she couldn’t handle the weight of her trident anymore. It fell from her hand, and at the same time, her knees gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.

"What did I do?" she mumbled in horror.

This is unforgivable...

How could I...

I’m not worthy of love...

Her mind began to spiral as she was filled with dark thoughts. Because of that, she didn’t realize that the witch of greed had mounted her dragon and was now on a crash course towards her.

BOOM!
