Werewolf Leveling: Building the Strongest Pack in the Apocalypse

Chapter 306 306: The Golden Bird

Chapter 306 306: The Golden Bird

Orange eyes?!

He's just like me.

The young man didn't say a word and continued to walk towards me. He kept his eyes on his wyvern before walking past me. He rubbed his hands against the scaly beast lying in a burnt mess behind me on the ground.

He had a mournful look on his face, but he didn't say a word. When he did speak, it was only one sentence.

"How barbaric."

Barbaric?

I couldn't help but shake my head.

"It's always the ones who use violence to get what they want that are unable to handle violence being directed at themselves." I said.

Hearing the word barbaric coming from the mouth of a demon left a bitter taste in my mouth. He came here to destroy my world, then screamed unfairness when he had to lose something.

Without wasting a second, I brought the heart up to my mouth and took my first bite. A flood of energy coursed through my entire body and for a brief moment, my eyes glowed orange.

His eyes widened in surprise.

"You dare eat that in front of me."

"The strong eat the weak to get stronger. That is how it is for demons too, isn't it? Your Wyvern was weak."

The wyvern king clenched his fist and exhaled, causing smoke to blow from his mouth.

"You're one of Conquest's dogs. What is one of you doing here? No two of the Four Horsemen should be in the same place. You're going against the demon king." he asked.

SHREE!

Just then, a thunderous scream ripped through the sky, making the very air tremble with magic and power. I turned my gaze to the sky to see a monstrous wyvern circling in the sky. It was far bigger than the one I had just fought.

"Lucile won't be happy, you killed her son."

Lucile? That must've been the wyvern's name.

HOOOO-oom... oom... mmm…

Another monstrous sound ripped through the air. It sounded like a deep hollow echo. The beast who made the sound took a defensive stance in front of me, peering at the sky towards the wyvern.

It was Cerberus.

He felt the threat directed towards his alpha and appeared in an instant. Cerberus's bloodlust matched that of the wyvern flying in the sky.

The wyvern king's eyes glowed with anger, and I saw the moment he came to his decision.

'A beast for a beast,' he must've thought.

The ground at his feet exploded and in an instant, he was in front of Cerberus, his talons poised to end the beast's life, but before he could, I switched places with Cerberus and slid beneath his attack.

I then thrust my claws upwards towards his throat. The wyvern king's expression didn't change as he leaned his head back to avoid my claws.

He was fast, and he had good instincts. He didn't seem surprised at me switching places with my shadow hound.

"You're not the one that released that bloodlust earlier," he suddenly said. "If it wasn't you, then who was it?"

The bloodlust from earlier… even I was curious, but I was more interested in the opponent standing in front of me.

SKREE!

HOOOO-oom... oom... mmm…

Just then the wyvern dove from the sky towards Cerberus, who was guarding me as I faced the wyvern king. His large body plummeted towards us, but just then a large whip wrapped around the wyvern's neck, pulling it back.

At the end of the whip was the Dullahan on top of his horse who stood on two legs and kicked its feet.

The wyvern king frowned, but I didn't give him the chance to intervene. My entire body combusted into flames and I thrust my claws towards him.

Off in the distant sky, a magnificent bird-like creature soared through the air. It had magnificent golden feathers and with every flap of its wings, a torrent of flame would be formed before disappearing.

The magnificent creature glided gracefully through the sky.

This creature was known by many throughout the world. It had lived many lifetimes and had seen many horrors unfold. It was a creature of legend.

It went by many names: the Bird of Sun, the immortal, the phoenix.

Across the sky in the direction the bird was heading, was the free city.

Back in the free city, Khalissi struggled to breathe as the demon slayer held her up by the throat. All around them, her moths lay dead on the ground. Their bodies piled up into a heap on the floor. They all had a large slash on their chests with black smoke oozing from the wound.

Kumo desperately wrapped her webs around the demon slayer's arm, trying to get him to release Khalissi, but he wouldn't even look in her direction. Behind her, her arachnids lay dead.

"Demon slayer," Khalissi snarled as blood dripped from her mouth.

The demon slayer's eyes were cold and emotionless as he held Khalissi up with one hand and rested his black sword over his shoulder with his other hand.

"So you've heard of me. Good. I want all demons to know of my existence."

The demon spoke in a cold, detached voice. Around them was nothing but destruction. The bar they were inside was completely wrecked, and so was half the city. Khalissi threw all the spells she could summon, destroying most of the free city in the process, but still it did nothing.

She had leveled up quite a bit in Purgatory, and she could practically taste her next evolution nearing, yet even then, her power would never reach his level.

"How can a mortal ascend this high? You're only human," Khalissi mumbled through heavy breaths.

The demon slayer didn't even offer her the slightest of answers. To him, demons were the lower lifeforms. Humans were just beginning to understand the power called magic. In a year or centuries, they'll dominate all.

Those were his thoughts.

His hands tightened around her neck, constricting her airways. He intended to watch her slowly suffocate until the life finally jerked out of her.

At this point, crowds of awakeners were watching him in awe as he easily overpowered the demon. He wanted them to see and gain strength from it. He wanted them to know that humans were the superior race.

Khalissi's feet kicked violently as life drained out of her. She didn't want to die. She grabbed onto his hand, trying to force his grip open as she fired magic blast after magic blast, but they did nothing.

Kumo was desperately trying to save her, but the adventurers surrounding her were too much for her to handle. She was forced to fight for her life while desperately trying to save Khalissi.

Khalissi's feet, which were kicking violently, slowly stopped moving as life drained out of her. Her face was pale until it was almost blue in color.

The demon slayer reveled in watching her die until slowly, his eyes drifted to the sky. He saw something impossible.

A golden bird.

And what's more, it was heading towards them.

Slowly his attention drew from Khalissi when he finally felt the power emanating from the golden bird. It was a power that forced him to release his grip, discarding her like trash he was no longer interested in.

Khalissi fell to the ground, her legs so weak she couldn't even catch herself when she fell. She grasped her throat as she gasped for air. Her eyes were bloodshot and her pale face was slowly regaining its color with every breath she took.

She then turned her gaze to the sky, hoping that somehow a savior had appeared for her, but all her hopes were shattered when she finally saw what was coming in her direction.

"No, it can't be."

It felt as if her skin had shriveled up and she had aged a hundred years just from seeing that creature.

"It's the phoenix," she muttered in shock and disbelief. "Lucifer's most powerful son."

When different bloodlines merge, they sometimes create a new bloodline and, in turn, a new race.

That phoenix was the result when you combined an angelic bloodline with a draconic bloodline. It creates a new bloodline called the Sol bloodline and, in turn, a new race, known as phoenix.

The demon king Lucifer was once an angel, but he lost his angelic bloodline the moment he became a demon. The demonic bloodline and the angelic bloodline couldn't exist at the same time in one person. Out of all his children, only two of them managed to gain his angelic bloodline.

But the reason why Khalissi was so terrified wasn't only because of the race of the creature coming towards her; it largely had to do with his personality.

Of all Lucifer's children, this one was the most ambitious and held the most power. She had heard stories of his personality and dreaded meeting him.

While Khalissi was in shock, the elegant golden bird flew from the sky and landed in the city. The power emanating from him was enough to make everyone freeze in terror.

As the phoenix touched the ground, he changed forms. He changed into a handsome young man with fiery orange hair and orange eyes. He was covered in orange tattoos that were shaped like flames. His entire presence spoke of the unfathomable power he held.

As he looked up at the people surrounding him, a smile formed on his face as he raised his hands.

"Heya."
