Chapter 307 307: Fight against the Wyvern King
Chapter 307 307: Fight against the Wyvern King
A massive wave of orange aura covered the wyvern king. The heat he produced was enough to leave scars on the surrounding landscape.
The heat flowing from his hand took the shape of a sword that almost looked like molten steel.
The air around the weapon crackled as if it were burning through the fabric reality itself.
He took a sword stance, and I, in turn, readied my claws, my entire body engulfed in flames.
The wyvern king's expression turned strange, as if he wanted to ask why I was going to fight with my claws, but in the end, he didn't say a word.
He gave off the aura of a serious man. It was as if I was standing in front of a veteran soldier. His face was extremely stern, and even the way he moved held a degree of discipline.
His flame-colored eyes stared at me before his legs exploded forward. He appeared in front of me in an instant, sword raised. I stepped back and readied myself, parrying the blade with my claws.
I touched the blade for a brief moment, but in that split second, the tip of my claws melted.
SWISH
The wyvern king swung his sword back down relentlessly. I could feel the heat from the blade as I sidestepped the attack. A powerful energy ripped from the sword, cutting through the surrounding landscape.
At the same time, my claws healed, and I thrust them towards him. He reacted instantly and tried to parry the strike, but at the last moment, I slipped below his blade and clawed at his legs. I struck his artery perfectly, causing blood to spray from his legs.
The wyvern king reacted instantly and flapped his wings as he floated in the air above me.
"You don't fight like a dragon," he snarled in displeasure.
I raised an eyebrow.
"That's because I'm not."
The wyvern king looked at me seriously without saying a word. For a brief moment, there was nothing but the sound of our beasts fighting. He looked as if he was deep in thought. Soon, his brows knitted into a tight frown.
"Are you the reason she wanted me gone?" he asked, but still, I didn't say a word since I didn't know how to respond to what he had just mumbled.
"The only thing that woman cares about is her children. I thought it was a foolish attempt at protecting me from some kind of threat, but maybe she was protecting someone else."
At that moment, it felt as if his eyes narrowed at me and then widened.
"Brother."
Brother?
"What are you talking about?" I asked, but he didn't answer and instead jumped straight to his own question.
"Which side are you fighting on?"
I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at such a ludicrous question. My lack of reaction caused him to frown and ask again.
"Are you fighting on the side of the demon king, or the inhabitants of this world?" he asked, his tone suggesting that a wrong answer could mean life or death.
Looking at him, I couldn't help but feel that he was one of the many individuals who held answers about who I was. Those answers were something that I desperately wanted.
At that moment, I made up my mind.
I'll get my answers out of him before I killed him.
"My goal is to kill the demon king and all who follow his orders. I hope that answers your question," I answered.
The wyvern king nodded his head seriously.
"Foolish mother. So this is why..."
After muttering something under his breath, he raised his weapon and aimed it towards me. The energy coming from him seemed to intensify.
Heat energy poured out of both our bodies, creating a tornado much bigger than the one that was in Purgatory. Everything in our surroundings melted to ash. The ground flowed as it turned to molten lava.
The trees were incinerated, and even the wyverns, creatures with tough scales, were forced to retreat out of fear of being burnt to a crisp.
This enemy was tough; he had more experience and control over his power. If I had to guess, he had a draconic bloodline just like me, and also a demonic bloodline.
I had a draconic bloodline and a primordial bloodline. The air around us exploded with every movement we made. My claws matched his steel as I parried his attacks and returned attacks of my own.
The wyvern king's expression was calm as he swung his sword with brutal efficiency. In terms of strength, it felt as if the two of us were evenly matched.
He might've been older and more experienced, but it felt as if the two of us were on the same level. Khalissi told me once that dragons took centuries to reach their first evolution. Since they had a long lifespan, they didn't have to resort to the same means that I did to evolve and could simply take their time.
I imagine this evolution would be quicker for dragons with a demonic bloodline since they could simply have their legion fight in their stead to evolve. But still, he was a new dragon, I felt like.
While he might've been older, we were almost on the same level in terms of power.
The wyvern king flew through the air at a speed that would put most fighter jets to shame. He had the advantage of flight, and he used it well. It was hard to fight against attacks coming from the air, since even if I managed to protect myself from his blade, the force with which he descended from the sky to land the attack would still be damaging.
The wyvern king ascended into the sky once, again, flying so high that he looked like merely a dot. I knew he was about to attack once again, so I readied myself.
His body moved through the air as if he was built for it as he dove from the sky once more. I watched in anticipation, and the moment he was close enough, I dodged his attack and transformed myself into a giant black wolf with glowing orange eyes.
I sank my teeth into his shoulder and activated my Devouring Bite while slamming him into the ground. The devouring bite created a wound that would never heal. The bite corroded his flesh, rotting him from the inside.
The wyvern king let out a bloodcurdling scream, and for a moment, I felt the air above me tremble. I felt a strange presence above us which caused me to turn my gaze to the sky.
For a moment, I thought I saw the outlines of two beings, but that was when I felt the wyvern king's sword pierce through my stomach, melting me from the inside.
I howled and sank my ferocious teeth into his shoulder once again. Summoning every ounce of strength I could muster as I tried to rip his arm off. His scream was guttural as he sank his talons into my side in desperation.
The two of us were bleeding and heavily wounded.
I felt my vision blur for a second, but I regained my composure. My fangs melted through his hard and thick muscles.
Covered in blood, it felt as if energy was surging from somewhere in my stomach, spreading throughout my entire body.
That energy gave me the strength I needed to completely rip his arm off and chuck it to the side. He used the opportunity to escape and flew into the air, hovering above me.
My black fur was covered in steaming blood. A sea of flames danced around us as a section of the ground flowed like a raging river as it was turned to magma.
The wyvern king held onto the stump where his hand used to be. The blood there seemed discolored, and the wound looked infected. Most of my skills received a significant increase when I evolved. 'Devouring Bite' was one such skill.
Its effect became even more potent. His arm would never heal, no matter how powerful a healing ability he had. He looked at what remained of his stump as the infection slowly spread.
He took a deep breath, and without hesitation, he ripped off the rotting stump. Since the rotting area was removed, the bleeding slowed, and the wound finally began healing. His cold, raging eyes then turned to me.
He raised his left hand, and suddenly the sword which was lying in his severed right hand disappeared from the ground and reappeared in his grasp.
"Going against us means death one way or the other. You're no longer a dragon. This world turned you into a freak," he said.
Slowly, my body began to transform into my human form. When I had fully transformed, I asked:
"You seem to know more about me than I do myself. Tell me what you know, or I'll get it out of you one way or another."
He shook his head and snarled.
"You don't even know your own heritage. You're a lion raised among chickens, so you think you're a chicken."
I shook my head and wiped away the blood trailing down my face. I didn't understand his parable, nor did I want to.
Instead, I readied myself to end this fight and extract the information I needed by force. Sensing my intention, the wyvern king readied his sword as the two of us exploded towards each other.
But just then, at the point of contact, someone else appeared.
"ENOUGH!"
