Chapter 1007: We Are Now Kings Of The Hill

"Incoming, incoming!!"

I watched as a rocket curved through the sky, heading straight for our heli as Patricia banked the aircraft to the side, trying her best to avoid it.

Unfortunately, the missile managed to curve over and struck the tail of the heli, causing us to start spiralling out of control.

"Patricia?!" I called out, using the Power Armour’s locking mechanisms to hold onto the helicopter to stop myself from being flung out.

She didn’t even sound worried as she chuckled in the pilot’s seat, "Ahahaha~ At least we’re going down in the middle of the safe zone so we can find somewhere to set up a defensive position for ourselves~"

"How are you so calm?!" I called out to her.

She looked back at me like I had just asked her how she was so calm while we were eating ice cream or something.

"What? We can just jump out and parachute down to the ground? You’re in a Power Armour as well so you don’t even get fall damage."

Ah... I actually forgot for a moment that we were still in a game.

I guess she’s been through this before so it’s no big deal for her.

Well... Now that I know I have no fall damage, I looked out of the spinning helicopter, trying to make sense of the ground that was also spinning all around me.

"Where are we landing?" I asked.

"Mmm... Right there, you see that little hill at the top with the shack on your map? We can hold our position there. Judging by the firefight happening around, there shouldn’t be anyone up there yet. You ready?"

"Sure."

Receiving my confirmation, she immediately jumped out of the helicopter to dive down towards the ground.

I did not follow her as I used the map on my HUD to orient myself, waiting for the helicopter to spin over to the hill that Patricia had pointed out.

She had the ability to move herself in midair with her parachute so she could jump out earlier. But for me who is stuck in this armour, I would fall straight down so I had to wait for the opportunity before jumping.

As soon as the heli spun above the hill, I released the locking mechanism and let myself get thrown out of the heli from the force of the spin.

I ended up spinning a few rounds before I managed to control myself right before I landed on the ground in a three point landing.

Patricia landed beside me after a moment, joining me on top of the hill before we moved towards the shack, intending to use it as cover.

We formed up beside the door and she pressed herself against the side with her shotgun out, giving me a curt nod before I braced myself and kicked the door open, scanning the room for enemies.

The shack was literally just a single room with barely any furniture so I could tell from a single glance that it was empty.

And yes, I even checked the ceiling just in case there was someone hiding up there.

I thought we might have time to relax a little but Patricia turned back towards the door and swapped her gun out for a marksman rifle to grin at me.

"We got company already, Tera! You ready?!"

I checked the ammunition count on the Power Armour, seeing that I still had just slightly above half the capacity in the miniguns and four more shots on the mortar.

"Ready. How many enemies do we have left?"

"Looks like there’s twelve more-- Oops. One just went down. Eleven more parties. Seems like this is going to be a quick game! Ehehe~"

I looked outside the shack to see a team of three players running up towards us from the side of the hill. But then I realised that it looked like they were running away from something and were in full escape mode.

The reason for that soon appeared as another party was driving up the hill in a jeep of sorts and two of them were leaning out the side of the windows to shoot at the party of three.

One went down in a hail of bullets and a second got slammed by the car and launched up into the air, flipping over the jeep comically before slamming into the ground.

The jeep skid to a stop and all three players fired out of their vehicle to finish off the remaining two players, wiping out another team from the game.

All of them threw up their hands in the air to cheer, only for my mortar round to come arching down towards them and blasting the car into a heap of scrap metal.

Seems like if you are in the vehicle when it explodes, it kills you instantly in this game as all three of those players got wiped instantly.

The energy wall was closing in and even more players were rushing towards our location as it was arguably the best location within this safe zone with the elevation to grant the defenders high ground against any survivors and we had line of sight to pretty much the rest of the remaining area in this safe zone.

And right on cue, there were even more players that were fighting their way towards us, one of the parties driving two vehicles they had commandeered to get up the hill.

I took aim with my mortar and fired two shots in quick succession, blowing up the first car but the second one ended up missing as they swerved away before my mortar shell could hit them.

I could shoot again and use up the last of my mortar shell but I decided to keep it and started shooting the miniguns under my arms to pepper the vehicle with bullet holes.

They tried to use the vehicle as a shield against me but with the damage I was dealing to that car, it also quickly exploded and killed all of them with it.

Or at least... I had thought it took all of them but the two people that had been in it managed to climb out of the car before it blew up. One of them specifically had a rocket launcher which they used to fire at me.

I could not get away in time so I decided to swing my left arm in front of the rocket, causing it to explode on my arm instead of my chest.

While the armour protected me, it seems like the game calculates damage based on the parts that were hit and the minigun on my arm was deemed to be too damaged as it detached itself to fall on the ground as a broken heap of scrap metal.

I levelled my other minigun at them and shot a hail of bullets towards them, forcing them to dive for cover.

Unfortunately for them, Patricia had already set herself up at the shack and a few quick shots from her marksman rifle blasted both of them into particles of light, eliminating the entire team.

"Lost one of my guns," I reported back to her.

"Ehhhh~ You still have one more on the other arm, right?"

"Sure, but I’m running low now."

"There’s eight more parties! And you can still use your normal guns anyway once it runs out! Oh! More incoming from the air!!"

I looked up just in time to see a trio of players parachuting down towards us.

I immediately raised my arm and started shooting at them, though they quickly moved erratically to throw my aim off which worked for the most part until they got closer to the ground.

One guy got shredded and the second was sniped out of the air by Patricia, leaving the last guy who immediately tossed a grenade in my direction.

The blast rocked me inside the Power Armour but it still held strong, right before I heard stomping coming from behind me and I found another guy in Power Armour rushing straight towards me with the fists of his Power Armour glowing blue.

Knowing that I couldn’t take him down in time, I did the only thing I could think of and fired the mortar shell up into the air before I jumped out from the back of the Power Armour.

Right on time, the other guy crashed into my Power Armour and it looked like I did the right thing in jumping out as the punch ended up crashing through the armour like it was made of paper and sliced through the armour while leaving red streaks where the metal had melted from the head.

I didn’t wait as I turned around to run away, diving the last few feet right before the mortar shell I shot into the air came crashing back down and landing on top of the other Power Armour guy, blowing him up with it.

The blast still sent me rolling away from the shockwave but I was thankfully unhurt, the trees around me having absorbed most of the blast instead.

But as I got to my feet, I heard shouting coming from below the hill through the game’s proximity voice chat.

"Come on!! They’re up there!! That’s SonicSlayer and that other girl that managed to beat him! If we can beat them both, we’d be legends!!"

Great... Should have expected them to team up against us...
