Chapter 923: Exo-Knight Testing
Chapter 923: Exo-Knight Testing
"How are the controls, Miss Tera?" The engineer asked, her voice coming through the comms channel.
"It’s perfect," I reported back, continuing to test the motion of the machine. "Is there somewhere that I can test its capabilities?"
"Of course, Miss Tera! Let me open up the hangar doors! We have our own arena where you can test out our machines!"
Oh? That’s nice.
She took out her personal terminal and started tapping on it, prompting the doors on the far side of the hangar to open up and reveal the void of space outside, the atmosphere shield in front of the doors preventing the air from venting out.
I pilot the Exo-Knight and move towards the edge of the hangar, taking a moment to look out into the void before leaping off.
I floated out into the darkness and it felt rather surreal to be surrounded by stars.
Well... Not exactly since the station was still behind me but close enough.
A static came from over the comms before I could hear that engineer’s voice coming through again.
"Testing, testing... Miss Tera, can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear," I assured her.
"Phew... Alright, umm... I’ve sent you the coordinates to the testing ground that we own. Do you see it?"
I concentrated for a moment and a screen appeared in my mind showing me a map of the area with a blinking red dot on it.
My vision was also filled with a path showing me where I had to go to reach the place.
"I see it. Heading there now."
I straightened myself and the thrusters on my back activated, propelling me towards the location with blinding speed.
Now I’m truly surrounded by nothing but stars.
I reached the testing grounds easily enough, which was an asteroid field a distance away from the station.
The engineer’s voice came from the comms again, "Umm... Miss Tera? Unfortunately, we did not receive an instruction manual in regards to your unit because it’s supposed to be custom made so..."
"Don’t worry. I know how to handle it."
I wasn’t just saying it either. After connecting to the Exo-Knight, I could understand all the parts like the entire machine was laid out before me and just by thinking about it, I instinctively knew what each part did.
Like the halo that was floating above me. This wasn’t just some kind of accessory for aesthetics purposes... But it was to enhance my Psionic powers so that I could do something like this...
I stretched out my arms and my wings behind my back responded in kind, both of them extending out to their full length to reveal they extended to twice as long as my arms’ reach.
Not only that, it wasn’t just one pair of wings, it was four.
Three of them stretched out behind me while the last pair curled themselves around my legs like a cocoon, crisscrossing each other at the front.
I flexed the wings and the parts that formed the ’feathers’ dislodged themselves to float away from me, leaving me with only the skeletal frame of the wings.
Those ’feathers’ revealed themselves to be floating energy turrets, each of them able to function autonomously or be controlled by me using my mind to aim at specific targets.
Not only that, I could also control them Psionically to assemble themselves to form into a giant laser cannon with firepower rivaling a battleship’s main batteries.
With those feathers deployed, the remaining skeletal frame of my wings weren’t useless either as the wing tips split open to form into fingers, allowing me to use them like hands to grab onto things.
Not only that, the tips were also laser blasters which I could use to supplement my fire power if needed.
I then concentrated for a moment and my vision was filled with a sea of target reticles.
With just a command, the laser turrets and the laser blasters on my wing tips fired, filling the entire field with beams of energy that struck through multiple asteroids and filling them with holes.
I watched as the beams dissipated, revealing more than several dozens of asteroids had been hit by my lasers and all of them being hit where I aimed for.
Satisfied with their performance, I brought the feathers back and let them assemble into the cannon which ended up being longer than I was tall with the barrel stretching to almost my height.
The cannon would limit my movement since I would need to activate my thrusters to counter the recoil but the range of this gun more than made up for it.
I targeted the biggest rock in the training ground which was more than several kilometers away from me, my targeting reticle resting on the centre of the rock.
I pulled the trigger and even though this cannon’s barrel tapered into a small tip, the resulting laser beam fired out from the tip was enormous and I watched it blow a giant hole in the asteroid, almost blowing away the entire rock and only leaving small bits of it remaining.
Damn... This thing’s overpowered as heck.
I disassembled the gun back into feathers and let them slide back into place on my wings before furling my wings back behind me.
I then extended my hands before clenching my fists, nodding in satisfaction when two oval shaped shields appeared on them, each one big enough to cover my entire body when deployed.
Deactivating it, I then reached for the assault rifle which I now knew was a kinetic assault cannon.
It had three modes, one was the normal assault cannon which functioned like an assault rifle; the second was a shotgun that would scatter the bullet as pellets; and the last was basically a railgun that I would need to attach a charging cable from my hip to the gun to power it, making it work like a sniper rifle.
I only used the assault cannon mode and shot a few asteroids with it just to get a feel of the gun before putting it away.
The kinetic rounds easily punched through the rocks around and I believe this would also shred through a ship’s armour at close to medium range.
Satisfied with its performance, I reached for the other weapon at my hip.
The rod I pulled out was the handle of an energy halberd, similar to the halberd that Franz had crafted for me except it was expanded in size.
The rod extended itself before the tip split open for an axe head and spear tip made of energy to materialise itself, molding it in the exact shape as my own halberd.
They definitely created this with my halberd in mind to match it.
Some people might think that using a melee weapon in this context might be dumb since others have access to rockets, lasers and kinetic weapons to shoot at me before I can even get within halberd range, but I have another module that helps with that.
I lowered myself into a combat stance and two circular pods popped out from the sides of my outer thighs.
I looked at the asteroid that was a good distance ahead of me before I activated the pods.
They glowed and I was suddenly accelerated towards the asteroid with blinding speeds, closing the distance in an instance before I slashed at it, splitting it in half while I flipped over it to stop behind it.
The two pods at my outer thighs then glowed red, blinking for a few seconds while the asteroid’s two halves floated off in different directions.
The red light then switched to a blue light, indicating it was ready for use again.
Instantaneous movement over a short distance. It would feel like time had slowed down for me as I closed the distance. Very effective in an Exo-Knight on Exo-Knight battle.
I deactivated the halberd and stored the pole back in its sheathe.
All of these weapons already made this Exo-Knight a force to contend with, probably making it capable of taking on a fleet of ships by itself or maybe even a Leviathan as well.
But if that wasn’t enough, there is just one more trump card up my sleeve that I can use with this Exo-Knight.
I reached out my hands towards the rocks in front of me and focused my mind on them.
The halo above my head pulsed as I channeled my will over the entire field of asteroids in front of me before I clenched my fists together.
In almost an instant, over hundreds of asteroids were instantly crushed into the size of marbles no matter what their sizes were before, all of them being compressed by my Psionic force.
I held them for a moment before letting go, causing them to explode out into millions of pieces as they imploded from the sudden compression.
I focused on the space in front of me and killed the kinetic energy from all the flying rocks, lest they become kinetic rounds that hit some poor ship flying past.
Yeah... This Exo-Knight is awesome.
