Situ Ying said nothing more. He left with a grim, sullen expression, not sparing another word.
The group of Alchemists dared not waste a single moment. Without even pausing to rest, they immediately set to work recalling the lost marked Coordinates.
Situ Hengxing let out a long sigh, waved his hand, and hunched his slightly stooped frame as he too prepared to leave and rest.
Before departing, he clasped his hands and performed a brief bow to Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge.
The only one left behind from the direct line of the Situ Family was Situ Qianqian, who, upon noticing the others leave, smiled apologetically at the two of them and said, “I apologise. It is our Situ Family that has failed in its hospitality, and we’ve made fools of ourselves before you two.”
Lu Fan shook his head. “It’s fine. This is a calamity that the Situ Family has suffered through, it’s understandable for the whole Family to have no bandwidth to spare for outsiders like us.”
As he spoke, he glanced over at Situ Qianqian, and it was plain to see that this Young Mistress had grown noticeably more haggard since the first time he had laid eyes on her.
At this moment, Situ Qianqian was dressed entirely in white, a white flower pinned to her chest.
The funeral rites for Situ Ying had only just concluded, and she did not even have the chance to change her clothes before coming here, chasing after the culprit.
Though, not like she had any interest in changing clothes when this had happened.
Her relationship with Situ Ying had been a deep one. He was her Eldest Uncle. He had always treated her well.
Now that Situ Ying was gone, her mood had plummeted to a depth that defied description. Who could care about such trifles as clothing at a time like this?
Even so, she understood that Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge were honoured guests. Furthermore, guests that could not be slighted. That was precisely why, after Situ Xiong and Situ Hengxing had departed, she had voluntarily remained behind to keep Lu Fan company.
Situ Qianqian forced a smile and made a welcoming gesture to Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge, saying, “Why don’t you both come with me to the side hall to rest for now? Finding that person will take some time.”
Lu Fan nodded and left alongside Ouyang Bai Ge, following Situ Qianqian away from the hall.
As they walked, Situ Qianqian said, “I’m really sorry. We invited you two to our Situ Family, and yet we’ve given you no real leads for your request. Our Situ Family’s Alchemists are actually quite capable. Give them enough time, and they will definitely be able to track down the other party’s whereabouts. Meanwhile, why don’t the two of you stay with us for a few days? If there is any progress made on our end, we’ll notify you as quickly as possible.”
Lu Fan nodded. “Sure. Sorry to impose on you.”
Situ Qianqian smiled. “Mr Lu is being far too polite. If anything, it is our Situ Family that has caused trouble for you both.”
Before long, Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge had already been staying at the Situ Family for three days.
During those three days, the Alchemists dared not so much as close their eyes. They worked ceaselessly at their Arrays, attempting to recover the Coordinates from before the brand had been erased. Unfortunately, it was met with little success.
Lu Fan and Ouyang Bai Ge had little to keep themselves occupied and spent most of their time discussing about the Ancient Gods.
Over the course of those days of lengthy conversation, Lu Fan had genuinely learnt a great deal from Ouyang Bai Ge. Both his understanding of the Ancient Gods and his practical application of his Ancient God Power had improved considerably.
Then came midday on the third day.
A wisp of flame silently ignited, burning through the Situ Family’s Defensive Array.
A young man in crimson armour stepped through the breach with an air of complete indifference. He looked around and remarked, “So this is a Supreme Tier Ancient Noble Family? Compared to the Sacred Jiang Family, it falls short.”
“They say Supreme Tier Ancient Noble Families are the pinnacle of the great Families, each with remarkable might. Well, guess that’s just a saying. Seeing it today, I must say, I’m not the least bit impressed.” Having said his piece, he casually waved a hand, and the gap in the Defensive Array behind him sealed itself as though it had never existed.
Yei Xiu strolled through the Situ Family Residence, walking at a leisurely pace, taking in the surroundings on all sides. He had the bearing of a man on a sightseeing tour.
He made his way to the Situ Family’s main hall, where the Family members came and went in a steady stream. Naturally, there were those who spotted Yei Xiu.
His presence drew the immediate attention of several of the Situ Family’s guards. Although he appeared to not be on guard, even brazenly walking about with the air as if he owns the place, totally unlike that of an intruder, the guards knew more or less every face within the Situ Family Residence.
Yei Xiu was a new face, and that made him suspicious.
“Please wait a moment!” A guard who was a Level 100 Player stepped forward and clasped his hands at Yei Xiu, his manner still reasonably courteous.
He was well aware, after all, that the Situ Family had recently received several distinguished guests, and it was entirely possible this crimson armoured young man was acquainted with them. So, better not rashly offend him.
Yei Xiu came to a halt and looked at the guards, quite unruffled, then asked in return, “What is it? What do you want with me?”
The guard smiled apologetically. “You look unfamiliar to me, Little Brother. Might I ask who you are? Could you perhaps be a friend of Mr Lu’s?”
Had the stranger truly claimed to be a friend of Lu Fan’s, the guard would naturally not have dared to detain him and would have withdrawn quietly.
But Yei Xiu only offered a slight smile. “Mr Lu? Which Mr Lu? I don’t know anyone by that name. I’m just here to kill someone at your Situ Family. I don’t suppose you could tell me where is the Situ Family Patriarch?”
The words landed, and every guard present froze.
The Level 100 Player in particular genuinely doubted his own ears for a moment. In fact, he was thinking this stranger must be joking.
He cleared his throat and asked once more, “I’m sorry, what was that you just said? Our Situ Family is not a place where all manner of jokes are appropriate—”
His words were cut short by a soft, wet sound.
Flame ignited in Yei Xiu’s palm. With a single thrust, he drove it through the guard’s chest, burning clean through his heart.
Yei Xiu smiled pleasantly and asked, “Do you still think I’m joking with you now?”
“Ugh…” The guard’s eyes went wide, unable to believe what was before him.
His instincts screamed at him to retaliate, but Yei Xiu’s single strike had immediately killed him. He did not even have the faintest thread of strength left to act.
Yei Xiu applied a slight force. The flame in his palm surged once more, and in an instant, it wrapped the man completely, engulfing him.
As the fire roared into the sky, the guard’s body dissolved into drifting ash.
Only then did the remaining guards come back to their senses, realising with dawning horror that this man had truly come to the Situ Family to kill.
“There’s—there’s an intruder!”
“Someone, quickly! An intruder has entered the Situ Family!”
Knowing full well they were no match for Yei Xiu, the guards scattered in all directions, crying out as they fled, hoping to summon the Situ Family’s more powerful experts to suppress this uninvited enemy.
Yei Xiu smiled faintly and made no move to stop them. Flame began to seep from his body, raising the temperature in the surrounding air to a scorching intensity.
“Go on then, run. Quickly fetch everyone here. That will save me the trouble of hunting down every last one of you one by one.” With that, Yei Xiu strolled forward at an unhurried pace. He wore the very picture of a refined gentleman coming here to pick flowers.
