Chapter 1137, Smoke Without Wound
Chapter 1137, Smoke Without Wound
Translator: Silavin
The Void Insects operated in endless layers, like nested dolls of destruction. They forced the Bronze Qilin to strike again and again, detonating each one in turn, yet never truly extinguishing the threat. They shrank. Reduced to the size of grains of rice. They filled the air like a sandstorm, encircling the Bronze Qilin in a living cloud, waiting with extreme patience with great malice for just one moment to gnaw at its body.
They might be smaller, and their Attributes had plummeted accordingly, stripped of the Boss-like threat their original form had carried at the start, but their Attacks ignored all Defence. Every bite landed as True Damage.
Even when grain sized, nearly invisible to the naked eye, they could carve marks into the Bronze Qilin’s hide. Each individual strike claimed only a little, too small to observe with any ease, but with such numbers swarming as one, the complete consumption of a target was merely a matter of time.
The Bronze Qilin understood this perfectly. Seeing that the Void Insects could not be properly killed but only multiplied the more they were struck, it made a decision born of clear intelligence. It stopped wasting effort on the swarm. Its gaze locked onto Ouyang Bai Ge.
It was truly intelligent. Unusually, it was formidably sharp for a Monster. It recognised not only the futility of fighting the insects, but also that the Void Insects had been summoned by Ouyang Bai Ge herself.
Thus, it reached a logical conclusion that was both elegant and ruthless, much like that of a Human. [Kill the summoner and the swarm would disappear!]
*ROAR!!!!*
The golden flames wreathing the Bronze Qilin’s body surged with renewed ferocity, A blazing barrier held the Void Insects at bay, scorching away any that dared approach its hide. Though the insects sought desperately to reach its flesh, each and every one was turned back by that golden flame.
With the Void Insect problem managed, however temporarily, the Bronze Qilin charged directly towards Ouyang Bai Ge.
Yet to reach her, it had to break through the Golden Asura King, and then past Lu Fan and Ye Wuxian.
A sound like shattering crystal rang out in succession as Lin Dong erupted with a devastating surge of cold. Centred upon herself, the chill radiated outward in all directions. The ground visibly froze over with thickening ice, the frost accumulating at a pace that defied reason.
The Bronze Qilin’s charge carried it straight into that spreading cold. Ice walls rose from the earth and crept upward along its legs, climbing its body with relentless intent.
The Bronze Qilin reacted with greater violence. It leapt high, then drove itself downward with full force.
Golden light detonated outward from the Bronze Qilin like a shockwave, radiating in every direction from where it landed, shattering every shard of ice and dissipating every trace of the cold in an instant. The golden light moved like lightning along the ground. It was swift, barrelling directly towards Lin Dong.
To those watching, the strike appeared almost restrained. But every expert on the field could feel that the power compressed within each beam of light. It was horrifying.
Lin Dong, as the Dragon bearing the brunt of the Skill’s targeting, did not meet the attack with brute force simply because she was a Dragon King. She furled her wings, condensed a thick shell of ice around her body, and activated her Invulnerability Skill.
*Boom!*
The beams of golden light crashed against Lin Dong. She did not move. Her Invulnerable State absorbed every last trace of the assault without a problem.
In the same breath, the Golden Asura King and Ye Wuxian drove in from opposite sides, flanking the Bronze Qilin in a pincer.
The Bronze Qilin snarled and spun mid-air. A golden whirlwind erupts outward from its body, fierce enough to force both Ye Wuxian and the Golden Asura King into a reluctant retreat. Neither was willing to clash head-on with a Skill at that level of Damage Output.
The Bronze Qilin’s Attributes were staggering. Each Skill it used bore no resemblance to what it had demonstrated before. They were akin to comparing two entirely different creatures. To meet it strength-for-strength was not bravery, it was suicide. This would be no different than tanking a Boss raw Damage head on.
The best approach against it was patience. Use Skills to wear it down, avoid its strongest attacks, and find opportunities to inflict Damage without taking on catastrophic Damage in return.
Jian Ying and the others understood this. Ye Wuxian understood it. Their numbers were the advantage. So, why throw that away in a reckless exchange for force against force?
After Ye Wuxian and the Asura King withdrew, Lu Fan identified the opening with surgical precision. He launched forward on Xiao Ye’s back, riding straight into the heart of the engagement.
Xiao Ye had shifted into her World Destroyer Form. Her Strength Attribute instantly doubled. That Attribute surge reflected back through Bloodline Sharing, and Lu Fan felt it flood through his own body, every fibre suddenly charged with immense power.
As they closed the distance, Lu Fan drove his spear forward.
Dragon Fang Strike was casted. It was not his strongest Skill, but it required no setup. More importantly, he had learned precisely when to execute it: in that brief window after the Bronze Qilin exhausted a Skill, when it hung momentarily rigid in the air.
He struck in exactly that opening.
The spear landed cleanly, catching the Bronze Qilin squarely while it was still suspended mid-air and sending it crashing down into the earth with tremendous force. The impact shook the ground. Smoke and debris billowed outward in dense, obscuring waves.
Yet almost the instant Lu Fan’s Skill was done, the Bronze Qilin burst from the smoke cloud and slammed into Xiao Ye with full force.
In their Riding State, Lu Fan’s Little Blade Armour Dragon King spread outward from his body and covered Xiao Ye as well. She was encased in armour, her Defence extraordinary high.
When the Bronze Qilin erupted from the smoke, Xiao Ye saw it coming and chose not to evade. A Dragon Roar tore from her throat, and she launched directly into cast Dragon Jaw Strike, meeting the charge head-on. A true force against force.
*Boom!*
Another earth-shaking collision played out.
Xiao Ye was driven back tens of metres through the air before she steadied herself above the ground. One could see that the section of Little Blade Armour Dragon King’s armour covering her chest had been caved inward, cracked across a wide area.
The Bronze Qilin’s Attack had carried terrifying weight.
But the Bronze Qilin had taken a full, unobstructed Dragon Jaw Strike to the front, and its injuries were far worse than Xiao Ye’s.
It struck the earth hard, gouging a vast, deep crater into the ground. Fractures spread across its entire body as if a single touch might shatter it.
Yet the golden flames burning on its surface reached into those wounds, dissolving the broken edges and fusing them back together. The Damage healed before the dust had even settled.
Watching his opponent’s relentless recovery ability, Lu Fan reached for another reinforcement. He directly summoned Xiao Cui!
Xiao Cui emerged from the Summoning Array and immediately transformed into her Soul Light Form, hovering above Lu Fan and Xiao Ye, continuously releasing Jade Blessing upon them.
Her healing was indeed extraordinary. The wounds on Xiao Ye and Little Blade Armour Dragon King both disappeared at a speed that exceeded even the Bronze Qilin’s own recovery ability.
Beyond the healing, Xiao Cui’s Soul Light Form doubled the Attributes of both Lu Fan and Xiao Ye. The combined aura radiating from them intensified dramatically, enough to make the Bronze Qilin pause as it rose, with flickering wariness crossing its face.
It could not understand. No matter how it examined the situation, the enemies it faced today seemed strong to an unfathomable degree. The Dragon Rider especially defied all comprehension. To be able to summon powerful Dragon after powerful Dragon, each one a nightmare in its own right.
It had ignited its Slaughter Heart, unleashed the terrifying power of one of the Seven Stars of Slaughter, and yet, facing an assembly like this, the odds of its own survival were slim.
