Chapter 1138, All Manner of Enhancement Skills

Even so, the Bronze Qilin had no intention of surrendering.

Within the Three Star Bronze Forest, it had begun as nothing more than an ordinary Boss. It was once oppressed by that Bronze Serpent, reduced to scraping out a threadbare existence in the forest’s margins, nearly dismantled into component parts on multiple occasions. Its death was perpetually one misstep away.

It was the Slaughter Ancient God who had found it here. He had recognised immediately that this creature was different from the other Bronze Monsters. It had intelligence, and was uncommonly smart and wise, and it possessed a depth of restraint rare in any Monster.

Had it been a lesser Bronze Monster in its position, it would long since have been disassembled by the Bronze Serpent and incorporated into its body as parts. But the Bronze Qilin had endured and survived, and this was owed entirely to its exceptional intellect, not to any advantage in Level or Attributes.

When the Slaughter Ancient God chose this site to establish the Sacred Jiang Family, it was the Bronze Qilin he named as its guardian, not the Bronze Serpent, which held superior combat strength at the time.

After receiving Ancient God Power from the Slaughter Ancient God, the Bronze Qilin rose through Level and Grade without pause until it stood as the undisputed strongest creature in the Three Star Bronze Forest.

The forest was so dangerous that even Supreme Tier Ancient Noble Families, and even Sacred Lands themselves, dared not tread within its boundaries. The scouts who had come in past years were torn apart by the Bronze Qilin and its subordinate Bronze Monsters without exception.

As for the Bronze Serpent that had once lorded over it, that creature had become a defeated subordinate. It survived only to play out its continued usefulness as a guardian of the Bronze Forest’s outer perimeter, blocking outsiders from locating the Sacred Jiang Family entrance.

It was only this usefulness that it had been spared from death at the Bronze Qilin’s claws.

The Bronze Qilin’s intelligence was extraordinary. But without the Slaughter Ancient God’s intervention, it would never have reached today’s heights.

To it, that debt was absolute.

And so, its loyalty was absolute in return. Especially now, having received the Slaughter Heart and becoming the most valued general beneath the Slaughter Ancient God’s banner, it regarded the Slaughter Ancient God as its deity of reverence.

Even knowing that the Slaughter Ancient God intended to bring about a great calamity to this entire era, it did not care.

[Everything I have today was given to me by the Slaughter Ancient God. If he wishes to reclaim it, then so be it. If anyone sought to pass through this place and disturb the Slaughter Ancient God’s peace, I would spend my entire life without reservation to stop them.]

This was the mission it had been given: stand here, allow no one through to the entrance of the Sacred Jiang Family.

*ROAR!!!*

The golden light on the Bronze Qilin’s body blazed to blinding intensity. The seven-coloured radiance woven through the gold. It resembled a small Sun in that moment, and was impossible to look at.

[It’s still getting stronger? To think the Slaughter Ancient God’s Slaughter Heart is this formidable…] Lu Fan felt a genuine chill move through him.

He understood now that the Bronze Qilin’s overwhelming presence was not purely a product of the Ancient God Power bestowed upon it. There was another factor. It was fighting with no thought for self-preservation whatsoever. This was the kind of soldier that could draw out a hundred and twenty percent of its capability.

After the aura erupted, the Bronze Qilin designated Lu Fan as its primary target. Compared to Ye Wuxian, the Golden Asura King, or the swarms of Void Insects, none of them could currently pierce through the golden light and golden flames wreathing its body.

Those Defences basically made it Immune against their attacks.

The only presences that were a genuine threat were Lu Fan and his Pet Dragons.

“Good! Come then!” Lu Fan watched the Bronze Qilin single him out and felt a surge of undisguised satisfaction.

He had not engaged in a truly exhilarating fight since the Purgatory Overlord. This Bronze Qilin was exactly the opponent he needed. This was a chance to put himself and his Dragons to the test.

Xiao Ye shifted from World Destroyer Form into her normal Battle Form. She sacrificed the doubled Strength Attribute in exchange for a more balanced Attribute spread.

With Xiao Cui’s Buffs already active, her raw Strength Attribute was not the limiting factor. Rather, she needed her Magic Attributes to be up as well. This would allow her to still make effective use of her Dragon Language Skills and give her greater flexibility in this assault.

Above Lu Fan’s head, Xiao Cui poured down a cascade of emerald green light, layer upon layer, moving like ripples on water. They washed across both Lu Fan and Xiao Ye. Not only did it drive their Attributes sharply upward, but an array of Buffs were stacked upon them in rapid succession:

Jade Shield to intercept incoming Damage

Dragon Qi Defence and Dragon Qi Attack simultaneously layering across them.

And that was not all.

Streams of moonlight descended from the west, enveloping Lu Fan in a silver radiance.

He glanced down. Naturally, it was Han Ke who was channelling her own Skills towards him.

Han Ke’s command of her newly acquired Ancient God Power was still rough around the edges. Her applications of it were still not yet fully refined. But the Buffs she managed to release were remarkably potent. They were comparable to Xiao Cui’s own Skills.

With this Ancient God Power as her foundation, even a Player without a Combat Specialised Profession could still meaningfully contribute in battle. Also, the support she offered Lu Fan was far from negligible.

Beneath the dual Enhancement of Xiao Cui and Han Ke, Lu Fan’s Combat Power multiplied several times over in a single breath.

He met the charging Bronze Qilin without flinching, spear in hand, and drove straight into the collision.

Every strike Lu Fan released sent a sharp flash of cold erupting from Refined Undefiled.

Long range attacks reached the Bronze Qilin with each exchange. Despite the Bronze Qilin’s extraordinary Defence, the attacks at Lu Fan’s current Damage Output level were not something it could simply absorb and ignore.

Every hit punched through its body, leaving a cavity that required active use of Ancient God Power to close and mend.

Of course, the Bronze Qilin struck back with vicious force. Even the combined Attributes of Lu Fan and Xiao Ye, further amplified by Han Ke and Xiao Cui, were hard-pressed to fully absorb its blows. The Little Blade Armour Dragon King covering Xiao Ye cracked in several places as the fierce exchange continued.

But the healing from Xiao Cui and Han Ke proved more than enough to compensate. Lu Fan and Xiao Ye recovered faster than the Bronze Qilin did.

Adding to the pressure, Lin Dong circled in the high air above, continuously raining Skill fire down upon the Bronze Qilin to suppress it. Thus, the overall advantage still remained with Lu Fan.

However, it was only holding the advantage.

With the Bronze Qilin’s formidable strength, combined with the Ancient God Power unleashed through its Slaughter Heart, it was rendered near-indestructible. Lu Fan could suppress it, but he could not finish it off.

The two of them resembled a pair of perpetual motion machines, clashing and tearing into each other in an endless cycle of Damage and recovery, both maintaining peak Combat Power with no sign of diminishing on either side.
