Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 500: Big Event

Chapter 500: Chapter 500: Big Event

Then he looked at the officer with a grim expression.

"It may sound unbelievable," he added calmly, "but Dante and I enjoy playing pranks on each other."

The officer clearly didn’t believe Frank at all.

Without another word, they pushed him back into the cell and shut the door with a dull metallic clang that echoed through the narrow corridor.

Frank stood there for a moment, staring at the cell, a faint unease crawling up his spine.

Just as worry began to settle in his chest, a day later, unexpected news reached him.

A guard stopped by his cell and spoke in a hushed yet excited tone.

"Something big has happened at the base."

Frank’s eyes lit up instantly. ’Finally,’ he thought, a spark of excitement flaring within him.

’This might be my way out.’

If Ivy was busy dealing with something major, she might not have the time or energy to investigate his case properly.

As if to confirm his thoughts, the guard continued,

"Cotton has started appearing in the stores. Large quantities. It’s being distributed openly."

Frank froze and stared at him. Before he could respond, the guard added,

"And that’s not all. We’ve also received word that the antidote for full zombies is nearly complete. Almost ninety percent."

Frank’s expression hardened. "What are you talking about?" His voice was low and sharp.

The guard straightened.

"Significant progress has been made. The research team is celebrating. Everyone’s talking about it."

Meanwhile, inside the research division, excitement buzzed thickly in the air. It wasn’t unfounded.

The modified seeds developed using the data and materials provided by Moona and Maxi had been successfully integrated into the antidote.

What shocked everyone was the result. The antidote’s effectiveness had reached nearly ninety-five percent.

During testing, the subject, a former full zombie, had shown remarkable changes.

His skin gradually regained a human tone, the grayish hue fading away.

His eyes cleared, and his thoughts became coherent enough to communicate clearly.

Other than a strange and persistent craving for human-made meals, he appeared completely normal.

He spoke with the researchers, answered questions, and even showed emotional responses.

The sight thrilled the entire team.

Still, caution prevailed. They refused to release him. ’What if this isn’t an antidote?’ some worried.

’What if it’s an evolution agent for zombies?’ The consequences would be catastrophic.

They chose to observe him further, and soon, a troubling side effect surfaced.

Though he remained conscious at first, he would fall unconscious after a day.

When he woke up, his memories from the previous days were completely gone. Every time. The discovery sent a chill through the lab.

Without delay, the team resumed work, focusing entirely on eliminating this flaw.

When Ivy learned of the results, genuine excitement bloomed within her.

With progress like this, a complete antidote was finally within reach, as long as the side effects could be resolved.

Still, she refused to draw conclusions too early.

On the fifteenth day, Raya arrived at Ivy’s house.

This time, Raya didn’t bother hiding anything.

She didn’t subtly spray the perfume near corners or doorways.

Instead, she sprinkled it directly in front of Ivy, the milky fragrance spreading softly through the air.

Raya had noticed that Ivy showed no reaction during previous attempts, so she assumed Ivy still hadn’t realized what triggered the death wavelength.

As she sprayed, Raya even smiled at her.

Ivy said nothing.

When Raya finished, guilt flickered faintly in her eyes. "You should rest," she murmured.

Ivy nodded and stood up. Just as she turned toward her room, Raya suddenly called out, "Ivy."

Ivy stopped and looked back.

Raya hesitated before speaking, her voice quiet. "I don’t actually hold much animosity toward you."

She lowered her head slightly.

"If I’ve ever done... or might do... anything that hurts you, I apologize in advance."

Ivy chuckled softly.

"If I didn’t know better," she replied calmly, "I might think you were planning to harm me on purpose."

Raya’s face drained of color. She forced a nervous smile and muttered to herself,

"You really know how to joke." Then, louder, "I would never intentionally hurt you."

Ivy laughed, though her eyes remained dry.

She took a step back. "If I leave now," she paused, looking at Raya steadily, "and if I’ve ever done anything in the past... or will do anything in the future... that hurts you, then I apologize as well."

With that, Ivy turned and left.

Raya stood there in silence, the lingering scent of perfume hanging in the air.

After a long moment, she whispered to herself,

"What’s the use now? Everything’s already done. It can’t be undone. An apology won’t fix anything."

Yet, deep in her heart, a faint trace of regret surfaced.

’Maybe I really am selfish,’ she thought bitterly. ’Taking revenge on someone who was completely innocent.’

Meanwhile, Ivy entered her room and sank onto the bed, her body heavy with tension because the plan was about to begin.

A strange stillness filled the air, pressing against her senses like the quiet before a storm.

Sure enough, by afternoon, large numbers of zombies had begun to gather outside the base.

Their hoarse growls echoed in the distance, blending with the frantic shouts of soldiers as they rushed to defend the walls.

Panic spread quickly.

Citizens whispered in fear, and the soldiers immediately engaged the approaching horde, weapons clashing against decaying flesh while the pungent stench of rot filled the air.

Meanwhile, Raya, witnessing the chaos from a distance, felt guilt gnawing mercilessly at her heart.

She lowered her head, her fingers trembling as she watched the citizens who had chosen to stay behind and fight rather than flee.

’Because of me... all of this is happening.’

The thought suffocated her.

She feared that half of humanity might be wiped out because of her foolish desire for revenge.

Her gaze shifted toward her brother, Vlad, who was preparing himself to join the battle.

She rushed toward him, her voice trembling. "You shouldn’t go, please... let’s... lets leave."
