Chapter 671: Lure
Chapter 671: Lure
"I can lure him out," he insisted, his eyes gleaming unnaturally. "Once he’s alone, we can set the trap."
Ian sighed faintly, his tone turning dismissive.
"Your enthusiasm is noted, but it won’t work. He won’t fall for something so simple."
Wade shook his head firmly, stepping forward. "He will," he said with certainty. "After all... I am the one who Ivy loves secretly."
That statement caused both Ian and Robert to pause.
Robert narrowed his eyes, studying Wade carefully. "Explain."
Wade immediately nodded, his expression growing intense...almost unhinged.
"Ivy and I... we had a relationship," he claimed. "She fell for me the moment she saw me. We kept it a secret... but we were together."
His voice grew sharper, his emotions spilling out uncontrollably.
"When Silas found out, he forced her to end it," Wade continued, his fists clenching tightly. "He didn’t even divorce her...he just threw me out of the base like I was nothing!"
As he spoke, his expression twisted, his eyes filled with a disturbing mix of obsession and delusion.
Seeing this, Ian and Robert exchanged a silent, uneasy glance.
’This man... is unstable,’ the thought passed between them without words.
But Ian suddenly understood something.
"So that’s why," he murmured slowly, his tone thoughtful yet laced with interest. "That strange hatred in your eyes... every time SiIvy Base is mentioned."
Wade’s expression stiffened for a brief moment, but he did not deny it.
Robert, who had been silently observing the exchange, narrowed his gaze, his sharp eyes glinting with calculation.
He leaned forward slightly, his voice low and probing. "If that’s truly the case," he said, locking eyes with Wade, "then you must want something in return."
Wade’s lips slowly curled into a faint smile, but there was something unsettling about it...something hollow.
"Of course," he replied without hesitation. "As long as I can have Ivy... I’ll take everything back. That life... that place... all of it will be mine again."
His voice carried a strange certainty, as if he had already convinced himself that it was inevitable.
Hearing that, Ian and Robert exchanged a subtle glance.
’If he’s telling the truth... this could be useful,’ Ian thought, his eyes flickering with interest. ’But if he’s lying...’
Ian leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he looked at Wade.
"If that’s the case," he said casually, "why don’t you invite her somewhere private? Let us see it for ourselves."
Wade hesitated.
A flicker of uncertainty passed through his expression before he shook his head slightly.
"That won’t be easy," he replied. "Ivy is... cautious. Too cautious. She never comes alone. If she does, it’s only out of sheer necessity."
Ian clicked his tongue softly before leaning back again.
"Still," he said, waving his hand dismissively, "as long as you can provide even the slightest proof that you and Ivy are involved... I’ll support you."
Wade’s eyes lit up instantly, a glimmer of excitement flashing within them.
He stepped forward slightly, his voice dropping with anticipation. "If that’s the case... then can I kill Silas myself?"
Ian did not even hesitate.
"Of course," he replied smoothly.
Wade’s face broke into a wide grin, his excitement barely contained.
"Good... very good," he muttered under his breath before turning and leaving the room, his footsteps echoing faintly in the corridor as he hummed a tune to himself.
The moment he disappeared, the atmosphere shifted.
Robert narrowed his eyes, his expression turning serious as he looked toward Ian.
"I don’t like him," he said bluntly. "There’s something... off about that man."
Ian shrugged lightly, though his gaze lingered on the door Wade had just exited through.
"Probably the killing intent," he replied. "It’s stronger than most."
Robert did not argue, but his unease remained.
Meanwhile, Wade walked down the dimly lit corridor. Once he reached a quiet corner, far from prying eyes, his expression changed.
The smug smile vanished.
His eyes darkened.
Slowly, his skin began to ripple... then melt.
Like wax under heat, his appearance distorted, peeling away layer by layer until the figure beneath was revealed.
Silas.
He exhaled softly, flexing his fingers as if testing the sensation of his true form again.
Taking out his phone, he typed a message calmly, his movements precise.
Once he finished, a faint chuckle escaped his lips.
"Now... the game begins," he whispered under his breath.
...
The next day arrived with a dull, gray sky hanging overhead.
Ian and Robert positioned themselves near the outskirts of the base, hidden inside a vehicle parked in a secluded spot.
The location was deliberately chosen...far enough to avoid attention, yet close enough to observe.
"Stay sharp," Robert muttered, his eyes scanning the surroundings.
Moments later, a figure appeared.
A woman.
She walked cautiously toward the car, her steps measured, her presence immediately raising suspicion.
The area was supposed to be secretive...no one should have known about it.
Ian frowned slightly. ’Who is she...?’
The woman stopped near the car and knocked softly.
From inside, Wade stepped out.
Without exchanging many words, he began following her. His posture was relaxed, almost eager.
Ian and Robert watched intently from a distance, their breaths steady but their attention razor-sharp.
They followed discreetly, keeping to the shadows until they reached a partially concealed corner.
The woman stopped.
She gave a slight nod... and then left.
And then... another figure appeared.
The moment her face became visible, both Ian and Robert froze.
"Ivy..." Ian whispered under his breath.
Their eyes widened as they watched Wade step forward without hesitation.
And then... he kissed her.
For a brief moment, time itself seemed to pause.
Ivy did not resist. Instead... she allowed it.
Inside the car, silence fell like a heavy curtain.
Ian slowly leaned back, a faint smirk forming on his lips.
"Heh... power really does get to people," he muttered. "Even someone like her isn’t any different."
Robert turned his head sharply, disgust flickering across his face. ’This man...’ he thought, suppressing the urge to speak his mind immediately.
