Chapter 754: Gwen
Chapter 754: Chapter 754: Gwen
Meanwhile, someone else’s entire world had fallen into complete chaos.
It was Annie. To be more precise… she was currently staring at someone whose face looked almost identical to hers.
That woman was Gwen. Felix had deliberately arranged this meeting.
He wanted Annie to understand something.
Although she resembled Gwen physically… the two women were completely different people.
For several long seconds, neither of them spoke. Annie finally broke the silence.
She slowly raised a finger toward Gwen. “You…”
Her voice carried obvious uncertainty. “Could you possibly be my biological sister?”
Felix quietly nodded.
Before anyone else could speak, Gwen folded her arms across her chest.
“I don’t believe she’s my sister.”
Annie immediately nodded. “I think the same.”
The two women exchanged silent glances. Then Gwen suddenly laughed.
The laughter was mocking. “I think you’re just an impostor.”
She slowly looked Annie up and down.
“You probably had plastic surgery to copy my face.”
Her lips curled upward. “So you can mooch off my family.”
Instead of becoming angry, Annie chuckled. “That’s actually a pretty interesting story.”
She smiled lightly.
“If you ever become an author, I’m sure you’d write plenty of bestselling novels.”
Gwen’s expression darkened. She immediately turned toward Felix. “So…”
Her eyes narrowed. “You couldn’t have me, so you found a substitute instead?”
A strange emotion flickered deep inside her eyes. Felix merely smiled. “It isn’t like that.”
His gaze shifted toward Annie. The warmth in his expression became obvious.
“I simply think Annie is a much better person than you.”
His voice remained gentle. “I’ve fallen in love with her.”
Gwen laughed loudly, as though she had just heard the funniest joke in her life. “Seriously, Felix?”
She shook her head. “If you had confessed to me just one more time…”
She paused deliberately. “…I would’ve accepted.”
Then she looked at Annie with open disdain.
“At least you wouldn’t have had to lower yourself by finding someone who looks like me just to comfort your broken heart.”
Annie quietly observed her. Then she slowly frowned. Her gaze shifted between Gwen and Felix.
“If I didn’t know any better…”
She tilted her head slightly. “…I’d think you actually have feelings for my fiancé.”
Gwen burst into laughter again. “Me?”
She looked almost offended. “Having feelings for him? Oh, please.”
She rolled her eyes dramatically. “During our entire university life, he chased after me.”
Her smile gradually became arrogant. “If I hadn’t been focused on my own goals…”
She shrugged casually. “…he probably would’ve happily become my lapdog.”
Annie’s eyes slowly turned cold. Instead of feeling jealous, she only felt disgust.
“You’re actually proud of the fact that someone sincerely loved you and you rejected him over and over again just because you enjoyed watching him suffer?”
The smile on Gwen’s face immediately disappeared. Her fists slowly clenched.
Anger flashed through her eyes.
In reality, there were countless things she wanted to tell Felix.
Back during their university days, the very first time they met, Gwen had actually liked him.
She admired how carefree he was.
Most importantly, he was genuinely interesting.
Without realizing it, she had slowly developed a small crush on him.
Everything changed after Felix witnessed her fighting skills. From that day onward, he completely fell in love with her.
He began pursuing her relentlessly.
To Gwen, that feeling was intoxicating. She enjoyed every second of being chased.
She made him do all sorts of ridiculous things.
She even forced him to confess his love ninety-nine separate times.
Each confession ended exactly the same way. She rejected him.
Outwardly, she behaved as though she couldn’t stand him.
However, deep inside, she was secretly delighted. ‘My crush actually likes me.’
That single thought filled her with happiness.
Unfortunately, her pride slowly consumed her.
Little by little, she began taking Felix’s devotion for granted.
She stopped appreciating his sincerity. Instead, she treated his love like a game.
Eventually, she even went as far as physically beating him whenever she became annoyed, never once considering how deeply she was hurting the person who had loved her with all his heart.
That had been one of the happiest moments of Gwen’s life.
Even after she had beaten Felix until bruises covered his body, he had still looked at her with sincere eyes and smiled.
“I’ll only love you. No matter what happens.”
Those words had filled her heart with indescribable satisfaction.
She felt proud. She felt chosen. She felt as though she had completely conquered his heart.
Because of that overwhelming feeling, she gradually forgot her original plan.
Initially, she had intended to reject him several times before eventually accepting one of his confessions.
Instead, she became addicted to watching him chase after her. Who could have imagined that after graduation… Felix would suddenly disappear from her life?
Sometimes she wondered whether her final rejection had gone too far. Perhaps, she had acted too convincingly.
Maybe the disgust she had pretended to show looked completely genuine. Whatever the reason was, Felix never came looking for her again.
At first, she felt relieved. However, as the days passed, that relief slowly transformed into anxiety.
Then the apocalypse arrived. Despite the chaos consuming the world, Gwen secretly searched for Felix.
She had even worried that he might have become one of the countless zombies wandering outside.
Just imagining his warm body turning into a cold, mindless corpse made her chest tighten painfully.
However, to her surprise, she learned that the Nightbane Family had already disappeared.
They had reportedly been taken away by their long-lost daughter.
Unable to find him, Gwen had no choice but to wait for the apocalypse to end. As time passed, her anxiety only continued growing.
She constantly worried that Felix might eventually fall in love with another woman. Whenever those thoughts surfaced, she would immediately comfort herself.
‘Impossible. Someone like Felix would never move on. He loved me too much.’
That belief became her greatest source of confidence. Eventually, the apocalypse finally came to an end. Transportation gradually resumed.
Using her family’s connections, she quickly located Felix. It wasn’t difficult at all.
After all, the Silvy Base had become famous throughout the country.
