Chapter 761: Taking Care Of Ron
Chapter 761: Chapter 761: Taking Care Of Ron
The moment those words left her mouth, several soldiers frowned. “That’s impossible.”
One soldier immediately shook his head. “Those two elements naturally oppose each other.”
Another soldier crossed his arms. “That’s completely illogical.”
Danielle merely smiled. “Only because nobody has tried hard enough.”
She picked up a small stone and continued explaining.
“If someone possesses sufficiently precise control over their psychic power, they could create a protective layer around the fire and disguise it inside the Water Ball.”
She made a small circular motion with her finger. “Imagine your opponent seeing a harmless Water Ball flying toward them.”
Her smile deepened. “They would instinctively prepare to defend against water.”
She lightly tossed the stone into the air. “But instead of water…”
Her eyes sparkled. “…what reaches them is an intensely compressed Fire Ball capable of burning not only their body but even damaging their soul.”
Several soldiers fell silent. Before anyone could interrupt, Danielle continued. “Actually, there’s an even better possibility.”
She raised another example. “What if someone learns to compress their psychic power?”
The soldiers looked confused. “A massive Fire Ball requires tremendous energy.”
She nodded. “But if that same amount of power were compressed into something the size of a marble…”
She pinched her fingers together. “…wouldn’t its destructive force become even greater?”
The soldiers exchanged doubtful glances. Finally, one of them sighed. “Danielle…”
He scratched his head helplessly. “That’s the kind of thing that only happens in fantasy novels.”
Another soldier laughed. “Have you ever seen a superhuman actually fight like that?”
A third soldier shook his head. “We all know you’re incredibly intelligent.”
He smiled politely. “But some ideas are simply impossible.”
Danielle chuckled softly. “They only seem impossible because nobody has learned how to do them yet.”
Her voice remained calm. “Everything appears impossible…”
She paused briefly. “…until someone discovers a path that makes it possible.”
For a moment, complete silence settled over the group. Then one soldier suddenly burst into laughter. “Danielle…”
He pointed toward her with a grin. “You should become the army’s motivational speaker.”
Several others immediately laughed as well. “I agree.”
“Half the soldiers here would become energetic just by listening to you.”
“You’d definitely be successful.”
Danielle laughed together with them. “If that’s the case…”
She placed a hand over her chest dramatically. “…then perhaps I’ll give it a try one day.”
The group immediately erupted into another round of laughter.
Everyone knew she was joking. Meanwhile, Asher sat quietly on the nearby bench.
His eyes flickered thoughtfully. Unlike the others, he didn’t dismiss Danielle’s ideas. Instead, he carefully replayed every word in his mind.
‘Compressed psychic power, a hidden elemental attack. They’re difficult but not necessarily impossible.’
By the time lunch ended, Asher had already made up his mind. He slowly stood from the bench. Then he deliberately cleared his throat. “Ahem.”
The sound immediately caught everyone’s attention. Every soldier instinctively turned toward him. Danielle looked over as well.
The moment she recognized Asher, her eyes brightened slightly. Without hesitation, she walked directly toward him.
Seeing that scene, several nearby soldiers couldn’t help but whisper among themselves.
“There she goes again.”
Another soldier chuckled. “Looks like Commander Asher has gained another admirer.”
Asher naturally heard every word. A trace of smugness unconsciously appeared on his face. ‘Just as I thought…’
He maintained his usual composed expression. “Yes, young lady?”
Danielle reached into the small pouch hanging from her waist. Then she took out another neatly wrapped cloth pouch and extended it toward him.
“This is a small token of appreciation.”
She smiled politely. “It’s my reward for helping me the other day.”
Hearing those words, Asher’s heartbeat quickened ever so slightly. ‘Could it be…’
He accepted the pouch while pretending to remain calm. ‘Did she bake something for me?’
Trying to hide the faint anticipation inside his heart, he casually untied the string.
And sure enough, there were cookies neatly arranged inside.
The sweet aroma of freshly baked chocolate immediately drifted into the air, warm and inviting. Picking one up, he deliberately took a bite in front of Danielle He paused for a moment before giving a small nod.
“These are good.”
In reality, however, he was screaming internally.
‘These cookies are incredible! They’re still warm… soft on the inside, slightly chocolatey, and exactly my type. How is it even possible for someone to bake something this perfect?’
He couldn’t help but wonder if there was a way to have these cookies supplied to him regularly. That way, he would never have to worry about anyone discovering his embarrassing sweet tooth.
Daniel, completely unaware of the storm raging inside Asher’s mind, smiled proudly.
“I made them myself. Enjoy them. And with this, I consider our debt settled.”
Hearing those words, Asher let out a quiet chuckle.
“Young lady, what I did was simply my duty. Even if you hadn’t repaid me, it wouldn’t have mattered. But now that you have given me something in return, I won’t continue thinking of it as a debt. Instead, let’s just consider this the first step toward a friendship.”
As he spoke, another thought quietly surfaced in his mind.
‘This is only because you can bake cookies like these. Don’t misunderstand. It definitely isn’t because I’m interested in you.’
Danielle immediately grinned. “All right, General Asher. Then I’ll be leaving now.”
She cheerfully waved before turning around and walking away. Seeing that, everyone around them was stunned.
‘Strange… shouldn’t she stay behind and try talking to General Asher a little longer?’
Even Asher himself was momentarily surprised by her reaction. However, after a brief moment of contemplation, he confidently arrived at a conclusion.
‘She must be playing hard to get. Women these days really enjoy doing that.’
With that completely mistaken assumption in mind, he continued walking away. Watching his confident expression, everyone nearby couldn’t help but feel speechless.
Just then, Asher’s phone vibrated. He received a message from his eldest brother Silas.
After reading it, he let out a quiet sigh. Silas had asked him to keep an eye on Ron.
Without wasting any time, Asher headed toward Ron’s house.
Upon arriving, he discovered that Ron was in an extremely fragile condition.
His breathing was shallow, his complexion was frighteningly pale, and cold sweat covered his forehead.
Asher genuinely wondered how this young man, who used to casually wander around the base without a care in the world, had ended up in such a miserable state.
As he leaned closer to examine him, Ron slowly opened his eyes. His weak gaze landed on Asher before he spoke in a barely audible voice. “Take care of my sister…”
Hearing those words, Asher froze. He immediately leaned forward. “What do you mean by that?”
Unfortunately, Ron had already closed his eyes again, completely losing consciousness. Asher clenched his jaw.
For a brief moment, frustration overwhelmed him so intensely that he wanted to pull out his own hair.
Turning toward the doorway, he noticed Ron’s little sister standing there silently.
She looked at him with hopeful yet frightened eyes, as if expecting him to somehow fix everything.
Asher suddenly found himself completely lost. ‘Children… why do they always end up becoming my problem?’
Just as he was wondering what to do next, Martha’s name crossed his mind. Without hesitation, he contacted her.
Unfortunately, she was busy. Having no other choice, another person came to his mind. Danielle
‘Surely she can handle one little girl… right?’
With that thought, he dialed her number.
Ever since Danielle had become his subordinate, her contact information had automatically been added to the internal personnel database.
Every superior had access to the contact numbers of employees assigned under them, so Asher never needed to ask for her number personally.
The call connected after only a few rings. “Hello? Who is this?”
Asher answered in his usual calm voice.
“It’s Asher. I need you to come to Ron’s house immediately. Bring some food, some money if possible, and also the property documents for the land.”
Silence lingered on the other end for several seconds. Finally, Danielle spoke.
“Mr. Asher… could you please explain what exactly you’re planning to do?”
Asher didn’t hide anything.
He calmly explained Ron’s current condition, Silas’s request for him to look after Ron, and Ron’s final request for him to take care of his younger sister.
After listening quietly until the very end, Danielle replied without hesitation. “All right. Please stay there. I’ll take care of everything from here.”
With that, she ended the call. Listening to her confident tone, Asher couldn’t help rolling his eyes.
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think I was nothing more than a good-for-nothing who relied on everyone else.”
Putting his phone away, he turned toward Ron’s little sister and forced a gentle smile. “Come here. I brought some candy for you.”
The little girl simply stared at him.
Her tiny hands clutched the edge of the doorway while she looked at him as though he were some suspicious villain trying to lure her away.
