Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower

Chapter 808: Manipulation

Chapter 808: Chapter 808: Manipulation

Finally, after ensuring that Alice was comfortable around her again, Edeline decided that the time was right.

One afternoon, she deliberately lowered her gaze and sighed. “I am truly living a difficult life.”

Alice immediately became concerned. “What happened? Did you encounter some kind of problem?”

Edeline hesitated before looking at her with a helpless expression.

“I cannot hide things from you. You are my best friend, so I should be honest with you. Recently, my daughter was scammed by a woman.”

Alice frowned. “What happened?”

Edeline quickly continued.

“There was another girl involved. She had a boyfriend, and that boyfriend was constantly pestering my daughter. When my daughter rejected him, he could not accept it and decided to have my daughter put behind bars.”

Alice’s brows furrowed. “That sounds serious.”

Edeline nodded sadly.

“After investigating the matter a little more, I realized that the boy was not actually the one who had my daughter imprisoned. It was that other woman who had constantly manipulated and incited him. The boy himself was actually very innocent.”

Alice narrowed her eyes.

“Really? Then a woman like that should not be allowed to remain in this place. Can you tell me her name? I will not reveal anything to her. If she is truly as terrible as you claim, then do not worry. I will make sure that you receive justice.”

Edeline’s eyes widened. A moment later, tears began forming in her eyes.

“Thank God. Thank God I met you. If I had not encountered you, I genuinely would not have known what to do.”

With that, she stepped forward and hugged Alice tightly. “Thank you.”

Alice gently patted her back. “So, who is this woman?”

Edeline did not hesitate anymore.

She carefully told Alice everything, describing the situation in a way that painted Danielle as the manipulator behind the entire incident.

When she finished speaking, Alice remained silent for several moments.

Then her expression changed slightly.

“Why do I keep feeling as though you are talking about my second son, Asher?”

Edeline froze.

Alice continued thoughtfully, “He is the only one among my sons who openly shows such a strong sense of gentleness toward the woman he loves.”

“Not only that, he is also the general of this place.”

Edeline deliberately put on a surprised expression before asking, “Your son? He is the general of this place? I thought he had been leading an independent group for a long time.”

Alice narrowed her gaze slightly. “Well, that was before.”

Edeline quickly seized the opportunity.

“If that is the case, then could you ask him to help my Angel just this once? I swear that I will never interfere again, even if the woman he has chosen has a lot of flaws.”

Alice’s expression changed slightly. “What kind of flaws are you talking about?”

In an instant, Edeline realized that she had spoken too much. “Oh no, I misspoke. Please do not pay attention to my words.”

Alice narrowed her eyes further. “Edeline, you can tell me. I am all ears.”

Edeline sighed as though she had been forced into revealing something she desperately wanted to keep hidden. “Then I will not hide anything from you.”

With that, she began talking about Danielle’s past, carefully twisting certain details and presenting everything from her own perspective.

Finally, she summarized her accusations.

“See, I understand that Danielle is a good girl, but think about it. If she were truly as good as everyone claims, would Jackson and Mason have ended up suffering the same fate? I genuinely think that Danielle does something strange to all the men around her. I even highly suspect that every man who refuses her eventually ends up suffering an even worse fate.”

Alice’s eyes narrowed. She looked Edeline up and down for several seconds before speaking.

“Edeline, I never thought you would become the kind of person who spreads rumors about a woman younger than you.”

Edeline immediately shook her head.

“Alice, I am not saying these things without reason. Trust me. If you do not believe me, you can investigate that woman yourself. You know what? I will not say anything more. I do not want to ruin our relationship.”

With that, she turned around and began walking away. Alice narrowed her gaze but did not stop her.

Instead, she returned to the task she had been doing before the conversation, which was haggling over the price of fruits.

‘Even if Edeline believes those things, they are nothing more than nonsense.’

Alice was a researcher and a scientist. She believed in evidence, logic, and things that could be explained through science. From her perspective, everything Edeline had just described was nothing more than ridiculous superstition.

Edeline, on the other hand, was quite certain that Alice would eventually change her mind.

The Alice she remembered was the woman she had known during their college days. At that time, Edeline had been very new to the university and was often nervous about doing something wrong.

Whenever someone told her to do one thing, she would somehow end up doing something completely different because of her anxiety.

She was superstitious to the point that everyone called her a freak.

If Alice had known what Edeline was currently thinking about her, she would probably have slapped her across the face without hesitation.

The truth was that many of the things Edeline remembered as superstitions had actually been based on scientific reasoning.

For example, Alice had often told people that they should eat something sweet before an examination. To an ordinary person, that might have sounded like nothing more than a superstition, but there was a scientific reason behind it.

The brain consumed a considerable amount of energy during intense mental activity.

Consuming some sugar before an examination could provide readily available energy and help prevent the sensation of mental exhaustion.

As for Alice being anxious? That was bullshit; she was an introvert and didn’t like to talk with people who had an IQ lower than hers.

As for doing things completely different from what others had asked her to, Alice did it because those were the right way to do things.

As for the other habits Alice had developed over the years, Edeline had subconsciously interpreted them as signs that Alice was simply a superstitious person.

Meanwhile, Alice returned to her apartment that day with anger simmering beneath her calm expression.

The conversation had left an unpleasant feeling in her chest, and she could not stop thinking about the accusations Edeline had made against Danielle.

Finally, she decided to call Asher and asked him to return home.

Once Asher arrived, he was prepared to sit down and listen to everything his mother wanted to discuss.

However, the first thing he heard from her left him completely stunned.

“From now on, bring my daughter-in-law here directly. I do not want to hear about her from someone else. I want to meet her myself.”

Asher stared at his mother for a moment before breaking into a smile.

“Mother, you are truly the best. However, there is one problem. I have only been dating her for a few weeks. If I suddenly bring her here, she might become frightened.”

Alice snorted. “So you want me to wait for a long time?”

She folded her arms and continued, “In fact, I think you should introduce Danielle to the family before Ivy and Silas leave.”

At the mention of their departure, a trace of sadness flashed across Asher’s face. “If they leave, how long will it be before they return?”

Alice fell silent. After a moment, she slowly shook her head.

“Even I do not know. It might take them years to return, or they might not come back until we have already been reduced to ashes.”

Asher pursed his lips.

“Sometimes I wish I were an immortal being as well. I do not want my brother to live forever while I eventually become nothing but a skeleton. How would I be able to charm my wife if I became a skeleton?”

Alice immediately snorted. At that moment, Dante, who had been quietly listening to their conversation, chuckled.

“With this kind of attitude, I am surprised that you were even assigned the role of general. During our time, children like you would have been kicked out immediately.”

Asher smiled. “Hence, I was not born during your era.”

Dante snorted and glanced toward Alice. “See, this is your good son. He keeps arguing with everyone, even his own father.”
