Chapter 454: Alverto: Origins. Part-8.
Kira was supposed to be a calm and kind person with great knowledge about history and stuff; she was supposed to be the greatest pillar of support for Fade.
In the original novel, the two of them fall in love slowly and over time due to various classic tropes of the hero saving the damsel in distress.
But things changed due to Alverto and Rio both.
First, Rio went ahead and stole most of the overpowered cheats that Fade was supposed to get, and then Alverto also cursed Kira, making her a puppet.
The curse slowly corrupted her soul and completely destroyed her mind from the inside out, making her just a walking corpse controlled by someone else’s thoughts.
She got together with Fade on purpose and kept track of his whereabouts all the time.
Alverto knew that kidnapping Fade right from the heart of the human empire would be a daunting task.
As long as there are SS-rankers keeping watch, kidnapping a talented student of the academy will be very difficult.
Raji, who’s the principal, would notice this matter.
That’s where those high-grade teleportation scrolls come in.
He made one of his subordinates that was undercover in the human empire hand over a scroll to Kira, and then she used that scroll to teleport herself and Fade both to where Alverto wanted.
This way, not only did they easily avoid the watchful eyes of the SS-rankers, but they even accomplished their goal silently without anyone even knowing.
Moreover, Alverto was already planning on summoning the Spire of Ascension soon afterwards, so he knew that even if a student goes missing and the SS-rankers try to find him, they won’t have the time.
The moment the Spire of Ascension appears, all the SS-rankers of the world will have more important matters to attend to rather than look for a single student all over the world.
But of course, this teleportation scroll also has a weakness: you can only teleport those who are willing to be teleported away.
The reason for this is because the teleportation circle of this scroll is extremely fragile.
For it to achieve its desired power, this circle has to use immense amounts of power just to stabilize itself in such a way that not even the smallest number of spatial fluctuations leak out.
If even the smallest amount of disturbance occurs due to the person resisting while teleporting, spatial fluctuations might leak out, causing SS-rankers to sense it.
If Fade was conscious, he could have resisted and tried to run when getting teleported, which would have destabilized the teleportation circle, making the spatial fluctuations leak out.
Due to this reason, Kira knocked out Fade unconscious before teleporting, as an unconscious person can’t agree or disagree.
A similar situation might have happened to Lia if the curse had been activated, but she was very lucky in this matter.
Not only was her curse considerably weaker, as she had inherited it from her mother, unlike Kira, who was cursed directly, but her curse was further suppressed by Rio before she could even come in contact with Fade.
Rio first saved her during the midterm exams, and then she stalked him for a while, which made her stay near him for a long time.
This unconsciously helped her suppress the curse tremendously.
If not for this, even Lia would have become a puppet for Alverto, and he could have used her to create even more chaos than he’s already doing.
Thinking about all this, Rio couldn’t help but thank his luck for creating such a ’coincidence.’
’Thankfully, I saved Lia that day and she got interested in me... thinking about that... I seem to have taken money from her after that...’
’Ugh... I kind of regret doing that now...’
Rio sighed to himself while regretting his past actions.
At that time, he didn’t expect that he would end up falling in love with Lia; he was just taking advantage of the fact that she was rich and he wanted money.
While Rio was regretting his life choices, Alverto’s memories kept appearing one after another in a weirdly jumbled manner.
At one point it would show scenes of present time, then it would suddenly go back in time again.
Once again, it went back and showed a situation from the past.
Alverto was in his hidden base talking with several researchers that he kidnapped and forced to work for him.
"So, you are saying that miasma is the root cause for all the sufferings of demons..."
"If we somehow end the influence of miasma on demons, then we can save the entire demon race from living in misery..."
Alverto slammed those research papers on the ground and shouted in an angry tone,
"I provided you all with several types of demons to use as test subjects, yet you only arrived at this same conclusion again!?"
"Are you even taking this research seriously!?"
"Do you want me to torture you all just like how you have been torturing these test subjects!?"
"Every godd*mn person in the world knows these things! If I wanted this result, why would I have you try to find a new method to reduce miasmic corruption!?"
Alverto was extremely disappointed by the results of the research.
He had gathered famous researchers from all over the world and even gave them all the resources and materials that they needed for research.
Yet, even after several decades, there was still no progress.
They still couldn’t find a method to decrease or resist miasmic corruption effectively.
Alverto wanted some kind of serum or potion that could purify the mind and soul of a corrupted demon, and he wanted it to be extremely safe with minimal side effects.
Making such a potion is like trying to make the elixir of immortality!
The difficulty of creating something like that is off the charts; it’s not something that can be created just because you wish for it.
Even humans and other races have been working on trying to find a cure for miasmic corruption for thousands of years.
Even as early as the era of King Allen, people had already started researching methods to purify corruption.
But even to this day, there is no perfect solution to this matter.
At most some potions or artifacts have been created that help in resisting miasmic corruption, but there’s nothing that can be considered ’perfect.’
Even healers of the highest caliber can’t accomplish the feat of purifying miasmic corruption.
In the historical records, there has only been one person in the entire world who could effectively purify miasmic corruption to the degree of absolute ’Perfection.’
That person was ’Astra.’
The greatest and most powerful healer to have ever existed in the entire world.
She was so good at healing that she could even purify demons.
She could destroy the corruption and all of the side effects of miasma, even from the highest level of demon.
It is said that she had awakened the legendary skill ’The Heart of Eternal Nirvana,’ which is the highest level of skill that every healer in the world wants to have.
Only that skill alone was able to completely purify miasma from a person’s body.
Her deeds in the demon extinction war were so great that everyone started to consider her their mother god because of how kind and gentle she was.
This is also the reason why humans today refer to themselves as ’Children of Astra,’ as they consider her to be their mother goddess.
Alverto wants something similar to that power.
After the great being gave him power, he became stronger, but even he knows that he’s slowly losing his own self to that overwhelming power.
The more power he uses from that being, the more his soul and mind get corrupted.
Staying with Aurora has indeed suppressed his miasmic corruption, but that’s not enough; he needs a proper power that can cleanse his miasmic corruption completely.
His biggest wish now is to stay sane so that he can spend his time with the person that he cares about.
He wants to be sane so that he can care about Aurora; if he loses himself to miasmic corruption, he will become just like other demons and will become violent.
He doesn’t want to let go of his emotions for Aurora.
In the past few decades, he has become more and more desperate.
This desperation has taught him that the demon race is just a group of miserable wretches; they live by drinking poison every day, and eventually that same poison ends up killing them.
But the most miserable part is that they can’t even stop drinking that poison called miasma because that’s what quenches their thirst, and that’s what they live on.
’Mana’ does not accept demons and corrupted beings.
If a human gets corrupted, their grasp over mana slowly reduces overtime and miasma settles in their body instead.
Demons can’t live on mana; they can only use miasma for getting stronger and surviving in this dog-eat-dog world.
Over time, as Alverto kept losing his sanity, he watched his subordinates that were originally carefully chosen by him for having more intelligence than other demons lose their sanity one by one.
His comrades that fought with him, his loyal subjects, and everyone that he could consider close—all of them would lose themselves to miasmic corruption one by one.
He would have to bring new and young demons every few decades; then, as they would become older, they would get corrupted again.
Watching this unfortunate and miserable life of his kin, Alverto felt sadness from the depth of his heart.
The greatest setback he faced was when he noticed that even Aurora, who was his pillar of support, was starting to face some level of corruption after so many decades.
That warm, gentle smile on her face was starting to fade away.
It was sad but inevitable.
That was the moment when Alverto made his decision, and finally his ’path’ became clear.
He had found his ambition at this point.
"I want a future for my kin; I want my race to live a life without corruption. I will save my people from this cursed life!"
"I want freedom for my kin!"
