Some of them lost their sanity, while some became sadistic maniacs who would create new ways to torture their test subjects every other day.

One of the scientists made a major discovery one day.

He noticed that people can undergo demonification at a very rapid pace if you forcefully control their emotions and make them experience negative emotions for extended periods of time.

The researcher made a serum that was made from pure demon blood and miasma extracts mixed with liquidized corruptive filth.

The most terrifying thing about this solution was the fact that it was contagious; it could spread like a virus.

Once enough negative energy and miasmic corruption are spread, they would cause the mana in the area to recede, creating a new miasma zone filled with death, destruction, and corruption.

Instead of creating a method to purify the corruption, that researcher ended up creating a powerful bioweapon of mass destruction.

Once you infect a single person with it, miasma will start burning that person’s soul to create even more miasma and amplify negative emotions to the max.

That person will lose all sanity and attack others like a berserker, then others will also get affected by miasma, and they will do the same.

The process will repeat over and over before a massive crisis will be created and an entire nation will be wiped off the map of the world.

Only awakeners can resist this kind of bioweapon with the help of their mana; the higher the rank of an awakener, the more resistance they would have.

The creator of this weapon was already missing some screws in his head, but he lost all rationality after creating this weapon of mass destruction.

He directly gave this serum to one of Alverto’s subordinates who was on guard duty.

That demon guard was already half-insane due to the effects of miasmic corruption.

In the end, the human race had to help orcs and support their nation so that their economy didn’t completely collapse to prevent even more deaths.

Ashtel took command and became the leader of the human nation’s awakeners.

In the following years his reputation spread far and wide as people started acknowledging him as the world’s strongest.

Ashtel took the matter into his own hands and hired many veteran spies and assassins to figure out where this contagious weapon of mass destruction came from.

To salvage the reputation of the human empire, they needed to provide an answer to the world.

They needed to prove their innocence with solid evidence, as words alone wouldn’t have been enough.

The operation to achieve this goal was carried out in secret, and the participants were told to cut off contact from everyone.

Rio’s father, Kevin Flash, was the most successful assassin of the time; he used to work for the government and the Awakener’s Association.

Killing people who liked to misuse their powers to exploit the ordinary people, assassinating people who leaked national secrets, and many other dirty jobs.

Kevin Flash was capable of completing all these tasks.

He joined this operation and succeeded in infiltrating the demon king palace.

Despite being an S-ranker himself, he still managed to steal important documents from right under the nose of the demon king, who was an SS-ranker, and he managed to come back alive.

He was the reason why the location of Alverto’s hidden base was finally leaked to the world.

Ashtel and others took action without wasting a single moment; they attacked the base and slaughtered every single person in sight.

It was a complete massacre; not a single person was left alive there.

Even though Ashtel and the others indeed found out about the records of that powerful bioweapon, they still didn’t manage to capture Alverto and Aurora.

Just before the attack on the hidden base.

Someone contacted Alverto; a single person appeared near the front door of the hidden base before the raid party could strike.

That person was Neo Aldif.

Neo was quite close with Ashtel at the time, and he knew the inside information about the secret operation.

The moment he found out the coordinates of the base, he immediately went there.

The raid squad needed a few minutes to prepare space anchors and other space-locking equipment before attacking the base; the time difference was just a few minutes, but that was enough for Neo.

He came in contact with Alverto before Ashtel could arrive.

Seeing Neo, Alverto’s subordinates surrounded him; there was even an SS-ranker among Alverto’s subordinates.

Neo didn’t resist at that point and asked for a chance to have a conversation with Alverto.

If it were any other demon, they would have already attacked, but Alverto is smart and isn’t insane like other demons; he still has his sanity.

He invited Neo inside, and the two of them made a cooperation deal.

Neo contacted Alverto because of that powerful bioweapon; unlike Ashtel, Neo wanted to preserve that technology and have it for himself.

Neo being a summoner, he can infect his summons with that fatal weapon and can use it to wreak havoc even more effectively than anyone else.

He can just send an infected minion into another nation and destroy it from the inside out while sitting back home and sipping coffee in peace.

This kind of weapon was simply tailor-made for a summoner who considered his summons as a ’tool.’

He could easily sacrifice his tools for the sake of his goals.

Neo made a deal with Alverto; he asked for the bio-weapon in exchange for giving Alverto a way out of this situation.

Neo has many powerful mimic-type summonses; he would use one of them to mimic Alverto and make it seem like Alverto died in this raid.

This way Ashtel will not pursue Alverto anymore after this one raid.

Alverto himself knew that just teleporting won’t help him avoid the pursuit of the person claimed to be the strongest in the world.

Thus, he had no other choice but to make this deal with Neo.

The reason why Alverto and Aurora managed to escape alive out of that near-death situation was all because of Neo’s help.

Alverto even had to sacrifice all of his subordinates that day just to make it out of there alive.

If not for Neo betraying the human empire, the two of them would have died in Ashtel’s hands that day.
