Reborn as an Extra

Chapter 456: Alverto: Origins. Part-10.

Chapter 456: Alverto: Origins. Part-10.

Alverto barely escaped death that day; even Aurora would have been lost.

Although he can borrow the strength of the higher being and can use it to do various things, even that can’t help him fight against someone as strong as Ashtel.

He had lost nearly all of his subordinates and comrades in that sudden attack; he barely had a few minutes to save himself and Aurora.

If he had tried to take his subordinates away together with him, Ashtel would have easily noticed the problem, and he would have not stopped chasing them till the end.

That way no one would have made it out alive.

He succeeded in faking his death because of Neo’s help and because of the sacrifice of all of his subordinates.

With everything that he had earned with decades of effort gone, he had no other choice but to return to the demon palace with Aurora to lay low for a while.

He was worried that even with the perfect deception and the sacrifice of his subordinates, Ashtel might notice something.

Ashtel is a madman who might even rush over to have a one-on-one talk with the demon king himself if he’d like to.

Even other Peak SS-rankers avoid getting on his bad side, because he can fight many SS-rankers at the same time without being at a disadvantage at all.

Alverto did suffer a lot from this sudden trouble, but he wasn’t going to abandon his ambitions just because of this one setback.

Moreover, Alverto decided that he will definitely take revenge for his sacrificed comrades.

While talking with Neo, Alverto found out about Kevin, who had been the actual reason why he had to face this situation in the first place.

Alverto questioned his father about why he wasn’t able to detect a rat wandering in his palace despite being so strong.

He was surprised after hearing the answer.

Kevin had carried out his plan of sneaking into the demon castle with extreme precision and with a very bold plan.

He used some kind of technique to disguise himself as a demon and sneaked into the demon castle only when the demon king was not there.

As the residence of the demon king, no other strong demons live in the palace; only some low-rank demons that work as servants live there beside the demon king.

In the absence of the Demon King, the castle is basically defenseless against a peak S-rank assassin who is world-famous for his feats.

The most amazing thing was that Kevin was able to predict when the demon king will not be present in his castle.

A single mistake would have cost him his life, yet he made it back alive.

The moment that precious information was leaked, Alverto had already lost.

Figuring out all this made Alverto furious and ashamed at the same time. He had decided that he would kill that man with his own hands.

Time passed, and Alverto tracked down Kevin’s tracks and used his cursed puppets to figure out where Kevin was.

He even made another deal with Neo and asked him to distract Ashtel so that he can carry out his plan of destroying Kevin along with everything he cared for.

He gave Neo a piece of valuable information and told him about the forbidden spell’s location, which Neo would go on to use in the future to possess his own son’s body.

Neo was a person who liked to make bets on many things at the same time; he agreed with Alverto without hesitation.

He told Ashtel that there was a new SS-rank gate near the edge of the solar system and he should go deal with it.

That gate was in fact discovered by Neo several years ago; he was keeping it hidden from others.

And he was using it to raise his ’tools’; he immediately abandoned those ’tools’ and sacrificed them for his own plans.

Raji hadn’t ascended to rank SS properly yet, and thus there weren’t any other SS-rankers to stop Alverto from wreaking havoc.

He directly teleported to the ’Drift City’ and used that same infectious miasmic bioweapon to deal a devastating blow to the entire city.

Local authorities collapsed almost immediately; nearly all awakeners were either slaughtered by Alverto or got corrupted too deeply.

Hundreds of thousands of people rushed all over the place and became demons in a matter of seconds.

The situation was pure chaos; Alverto used this tactic to draw out all the stronger awakeners in the city, exhausting them with the angry mob before ultimately finishing them off.

His plan was to destroy everything that Kevin cared about; thus, he didn’t spare any effort.

He even carved out a massive miasma circle on the ground, which started using the miasma and blood in the surroundings as its fuel to summon even more powerful demons.

Royal demons have the ability to use a summoning circle to summon other demons from the demon continent or anywhere else in the world for their own aid.

This ability of theirs is the main reason why all races try to assassinate all royal demons the moment they appear in the world.

They are basically a walking army on their own.

While Alverto was wreaking havoc on Drift City, Kevin had no other choice but to confront him.

Kevin was already depressed from not being able to get along with his family, and he had already stopped using the ’soul-splitting’ sword by now, as he couldn’t handle it anymore.

He was the only S ranker in the vicinity and had no room to retreat, as he had to secure a safe route of retreat for his family.

Kevin fought Alverto and smashed the demon summoning circle to bits.

Alverto and Kevin’s fight caused massive damage to the entire city, but Kevin was consciously trying to avoid damaging the area where his family had escaped.

He was not in his prime anymore, as he had already abandoned his weapon and his dreams.

Yet he fought with Alverto on equal terms.

Alverto used the other demons to his advantage and kept throwing them at Kevin to exhaust him.

Kevin being weaker and having to hold back because of his family became the reason why he ended up letting his guard down.

An evil smirk appeared on Alverto’s face as he brought out another vial of the corruption-spreading bioweapon; he used that small mistake to his advantage and splashed that bioweapon on Kevin.

Such a powerful and concentrated amount of corruption was not something that even Kevin could resist.

His body started to melt away and turn into black corrupted filth; his left arm liquified almost instantly and fell off from his body.

He was already starting to lose his sanity, but he held on with sheer willpower and killed even more demons.

The more he felt like he was going insane, the more fiercely he fought; he had become a berserker at that point.

Even Alverto was shocked at his strong willpower and couldn’t do any more damage to him after that.

Kevin slaughtered nearly half of the demons in the entire city all by himself, and his efforts didn’t go unrewarded.

He succeeded in holding Alverto and other powerful demons down for a long time with his continuous rampage; this gave the awakener’s association enough time to react.

Several S-rankers from all over the nations rushed over to the drift city in a matter of minutes, and Alverto had no other choice but to think about retreating.

Although he couldn’t accomplish all of the goals that he wanted, he at the very least succeeded in getting revenge for his comrades.

Kevin’s entire body had already liquified due to corruption by that point, and his bones were starting to show.

Sensing the arriving presence of several strong S-rankers, Kevin finally stopped his rampage and collapsed on the ground.

At that moment, Alverto lifted his spear and cut off Kevin’s head in one swift strike.

This incident created giant waves in the hearts of all citizens of the human empire.

Such a cruel act of massacring an entire city caused widespread fear in the empire and caused massive loss of both life and property.

Thanks to Kevin’s desperate efforts, a few dozen people managed to survive that tragedy, and Rio became one of them.

Although he wasn’t a good dad or a good husband, he protected his child to the very end.

Seeing this scene in Alverto’s memory, Rio let out a long sigh.

"So that how it is... it’s all just a chain of revenge... he killed for revenge and now I also am trying to deal with him for revenge..."

"As they say, the path of revenge is one of the worst; it’s cruel, and it never ends in greatness..."

Rio shook his head as he spoke those words.

After the Drift City incident, Alverto had to become completely underground to avoid getting killed by Ashtel.

By the time talks about that horrifying incident died down, Fade appeared, and Alverto had no other choice but to appear again.

The greatest obstacle in his path was no one else but Ashtel Rex, the strongest human in the world.

Due to Ashtel, Alverto couldn’t just barge in and capture Fade easily; he had to make a proper plan first, and most importantly, he needed to gather three ’Fragment’ first.

For some reason, Rio couldn’t see any memory of Alverto ever describing the origin or the function of those unknown ’fragments.

But one thing was certain: Alverto needed to collect at least ’three fragments’ to summon the ’Spire of Ascension.’

Rio couldn’t see any further into Alverto’s memories and couldn’t even figure out his actual plan.

After relaying so much information, the memory fragment finally collapsed, and the environment around Rio shattered, as if it were a giant mirror collapsing into pieces.

Rio finally appeared in the place that he had been aiming for.

The lowest floor of the Spire of Ascension, Floor 0.
